The club is the men's basketball department of CSM Târgu Mureș, a multi-sport club founded on 19 December 2017 in order to bring back to life the sport from the city, which went almost completely into bankruptcy during the 2017–18 season.Men's basketball section of CSM started its activity in the summer of 2018 and was enrolled in the Group C of Liga Națională continuing the tradition started by its predecessor, BC Mureș.
