AEK Athens Football Club is a Greek professional football club based in Nea Filadelfeia, a suburb of Athens, Greece. Established in Athens in 1924 by Greek refugees from Constantinople in the wake of the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922), AEK is one of the three most successful teams in Greek football (including Olympiacos and Panathinaikos), winning 30 national titles and the only one to have won all the competitions organised by the Hellenic Football Federation (12 Championships, 15 Greek Cups, 1 League Cup and 2 Super Cups).The club has appeared several times in European competitions (UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and the defunct UEFA Cup Winners' Cup).

AEK Athens F.C. competed for the 49th consecutive season in the Greek top flight and 84th year in existence as a football club. They competed in the Super League, the Greek Cup, the UEFA Champions League Qualifying round and the UEFA Cup.

Karaiskakis Stadium disaster

The Karaiskakis Stadium disaster was an incident that occurred on 8 February 1981 in the Karaiskakis Stadium in Neo Faliro, Piraeus, Greece, after the conclusion of a football match between Olympiacos and AEK Athens. It is the biggest football tragedy in Greece's history, and among the worst in sports history.
