Burnley 0 Huddersfield 0 Clarets and Terriers pick a point in dreary stalemate

Burnley 0 Huddersfield 0 Clarets and Terriers pick a point in dreary stalemate. The result appeared to hinge on whether Chris Wood, the home side’s £15million striker, could find a finish from a selection of half-chances but he was shackled by Terriers centre-half Christopher Schindler. The first half was a largely clumsy affair but Schindler was an obvious standout, throwing his body at a couple of shots. Huddersfield’s only real attempt prior to the break saw Elias Kachunga spray high and wide from 25 yards but they bettered that within three minutes of the restart, when Laurent Depoitre’s

LeBron James to the Warriors is a thing we have to talk about now, apparently

LeBron James-to-the-Warriors is a thing we have to talk about now, apparently. It’s kind of hard to wrap one’s head around the thought of LeBron James joining Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant on the Golden State Warriors next season, creating a three-headed monster the likes of which has not been seen in all of professional sports, much less the NBA. So it’s good that ESPN’s Chris Haynes is raising the prospect now, to give us time to digest just how ludicrous a starting lineup featuring seven of the last nine league MVPs would be. According to Haynes’s sources, “James would listen if Golden State explored ways to clear the necessary cap space” to acquire him. I mean, come on. Marcus Foster hits five threes, scores 28 as Creighton beats Georgetown. OMAHA — Marcus Foster buried five three-pointers and scored 28, Khyri Thomas added 22 points, and Creighton remained perfect at home with an 85-77 victory over Georgetown on Saturday night. Toby Hegner finished with 16 points for the Bluejays (17-5, 7-3 Big East), who have won 14 in a row at home dating to last season. Creighton led 46-33 at halftime, and Mitch Ballock’s three-pointer gave the Bluejays a 57-41 lead with 13 minutes remaining. But Jahvon Blair’s three-pointer about six minutes later pulled the Hoyas (13-8, 3-7) within 67-62. Georgetown, one of the 10 best free throw shooting teams in the country, made 9 of 10 from the foul line in the 21-10 run. They finished 16 of 17 at the foul line on the night. Blair hit a three with 3:35 left to get the Hoyas within a point, but Thomas answered with a three-point play, Mintz hit a jumper and Creighton made 9 of 10 from the foul line in the final 51 seconds. Blair finished with 21 points for Georgetown, while Marcus Derrickson scored 17.

Knicks' Ron Baker shows off black eye from devastating dunk by Anthony Davis. There’s getting posterized — and then there’s getting pulverized. The Knicks’ Ron Baker got plenty of both Saturday night, courtesy of an ill-advised attempt to get in the way of an Anthony Davis dunk. The second-year guard not only went sprawling to the floor as the Pelicans’ big man flew past for a monster jam, but Baker had to head to the locker room to get treated for a cut on his head. On Sunday, Baker showed just how the worse for wear he was. He posted a photo to Instagram showing off quite the black eye above a bandage, and he wryly noted that, in this case, he would have preferred not to have made it into the “Top 10″ highlights on ESPN’s “SportsCenter.” When you wake up and turn on #ESPN, and see you made @sportscenter Top 10 🤦🏼‍♂️! Georgetown bounces back from Syracuse loss by running away from North Texas

Georgetown bounces back from Syracuse loss by running away from North Texas. Shaking off a disheartening result against a contentious rival over the weekend, Georgetown used its advantage in length and athleticism along with robust defense to foil North Texas, 75-63, on Wednesday night at Capital One Arena. Center Jessie Govan and forward Marcus Derrickson combined for 29 points, 21 rebounds and seven blocks for the Hoyas, who played for the first time since Saturday’s overtime loss to former Big East rival Syracuse. Georgetown (9-1) went on a 7-0 run for a 66-54 margin with 5:57 to play. That was the first double-digit lead for the Hoyas, who have one game remaining until opening the Big East schedule in a week. “They were sluggish. I had to keep pushing them and pushing them to get over the Syracuse game and get ready for this game,” Hoyas Coach Patrick Ewing said. “That’s how we started the game, but then toward the end of the first half, we picked it up defensively. That’s how we won.”

Penn State too much for George Mason, even without leading scorer Tony Carr. Penn State played without its leading scorer Sunday, but against a George Mason team in a terrible shooting rut, the absence hardly mattered for the rising Big Ten program. The Nittany Lions toyed with the Patriots in the lane and easily compensated for suspended guard Tony Carr, roaring to a 20-point halftime lead and cruising to a 72-54 victory before 5,439 at Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax. Forwards Lamar Stevens and Mike Watkins combined for 37 points on 14-for-25 shooting, plus 24 rebounds and four blocked shots as the Nittany Lions completed a week-long sweep of Atlantic 10 foes from the Washington area. Last week, they smashed visiting George Washington by 20 points. This outcome was put to rest early.

A Warriors fan got bonked in the head by a ball. Kevin Durant gave her a kiss to make it feel better.. Courtside seats to an NBA game carry both a high cost and high risk, what with players tumbling into the stands for loose balls and the like. During Thursday night’s game between the Warriors and Mavericks in Oakland, an errant Dallas pass connected with the face of an unlucky fan. But Kevin Durant was there to make her booboo feel better. December Madness Ball State stuns No. 9 Notre Dame with late three-pointer. Ball State had the ball with 24 seconds left in a tie game. On their final possession of regulation, the Cardinals needed to score to stun No. 9 Notre Dame. Any basket would have done, but Tayler Persons opted for the dramatic. After biding his time at the top of the key, Persons pulled up for three with a defender’s hand in his face. A miss would have deservedly drawn criticism for poor shot selection but the junior hit nothing but nylon. The 80-77 win gave Ball State its first win in school history over its in-state rival and its first win over a ranked team since 2001. It was Notre Dame’s first nonconference home loss since 2013. Crisis averted Maryland survives in overtime after wasting 22-point lead at Illinois. CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Maryland guard Anthony Cowan Jr. stepped to the line with six-tenths of a second remaining in overtime Sunday night against Illinois, needing to make just one shot to save Maryland from a potentially historic implosion. A couple of misses in this situation, with the game tied and fans at State Farm Arena screaming their lungs out, were not out of the realm of possibility. Not on a night when Maryland blew a 22-point lead in the second half. Not on a night when it committed 25 turnovers and remarkably called its last timeout with more than five minutes remaining. Not on a night when freshman Bruno Fernando tipped an offensive rebound in to force the extra period with less than one second remaining in regulation. But Cowan didn’t miss. He connected on the first one and shrugged at his bench. No sweat. He even missed the second one purposely, and after the Fighting Illini didn’t get a shot off before the buzzer, Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon exhaled and looked up at the scoreboard: Maryland 92, Illinois 91. It was as if he needed to confirm it with his own eyes.
