First pre-season friendly ends in draw | Bristol City 0-0 Celtic | Highlights
The Robins High Performance Centre hosted its first-ever match as City opened their pre-season fixture schedule with a goalless draw against Celtic. It was a game of few chances, but in truth this was a night for the players to test their stamina and put into practice the hard work that has been shown on the training pitches in the last few weeks. Celtic bossed the ball for large parts of the game as the evening sun settled over the HPC, making this a perfect night for football. But City produced a strong defensive performance and increased the tempo with fresh legs in the second half. Max O’Leary had little to do but for a couple of near-post saves in either halves, while Andreas Weimann hit the post, before Callum O’Dowda headed agonisingly wide late on. In the end City would do enough to hold the Scottish giants, runners up in the Premiership last season, to a draw in this pre-season encounter which coincidentally would be the first-ever meet between the two sides. Bristol City 1-3 Brentford | Highlights
Highlights as Louis Britton came off the bench to mark his debut with a goal at Ashton Gate. Ultimately, it came on a day where Brentford ran out 3-1 winners as City succumbed to defeat in their final game of the Sky Bet Championship season. After a goalless first half, Ivan Toney netted a record-breaking 31st goal of the campaign before the Bees doubled their lead, showing off their passing and movement qualities before Bryan Mbeumo eventually finished off a memorable team move. Sergi Canos netted a late third but there was still time for a glimmer of positivity as Under-23s striker Britton was well-placed to hit a consolation goal in front of the South Stand. The result wraps up City’s disappointing campaign but full focus is now on preparing for improvements in the 2021/22 campaign. Watch the key moments as Tommy Conway’s first professional goal proved in vain as City were beaten 4-1 by Millwall at The Den. It was not the start Nigel Pearson planned for, this being his first game since signing a three-year contract as manager but he did see his side battle back in the early exchanges, after falling behind. Jed Wallace broke through on goal to open the scoring early on, before Conway rounded Bartosz Bialkowski to equalise. However, Scott Malone put Millwall ahead with a shot in off the post, before second-half goals from Tom Bradshaw and Billy Mitchell rubbed salt into the wounds in South London. Highlights as City conceded their first-half lead as Luton Town battled back to steal a 3-2 win at Ashton Gate. It would be a game of two halves with City largely the better side in the first 45 minutes, with deserved goals through Nahki Wells and Ádám Nagy. City were on course to end their winless run but the Hatters were a different side after the break and Nathan Jones’ men were level through James Collins’ near-post header and a clipped finish from Elijah Adebayo, whose equaliser kissed the post. But things got worse for the Robins soon after a handful of changes as Harry Cornick fired past Dan Bentley from close range. Tommy Conway thought he had pulled City level though he saw his close-range effort ruled out for offside.
