Among the raft of changes instituted for the 2022 season, one of the more subtle changes is the visibility out of the cockpit. Many drivers have already confirmed that their view is much more restricted than before. McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo has explained if this will be a cause for concern as quoted by Speedweek Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxlgXtXbik85fpceG37xBImIUVmg3bf5vl 0:00 - Is Reduced Visibility in 2022 Cars A Major Concern In Wheel-To-Wheel Racing? 1:37 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Is Reduced Visibility in 2022 Cars A Major Concern In Wheel-To-Wheel Racing? Daniel began by confirming the reduced visibility while explaining that it is something that gets underestimated a lot “No question, the view has become more difficult, the larger wheel and this fairing, everything is in the way” “I think that’s an aspect that is generally underestimated by the fans. It’s so difficult to get people to understand how little we really see” He further pointed out how most camera angles aren’t representative of the driver’s view “We do have a lot of on-board camera recordings, but the camera is usually mounted higher on the car. This does not correspond to the driver’s field of vision” “The fans probably got the best idea last year with the new helmet camera worn by George Russell and Fernando Alonso, for example” He then elaborated the changes the drivers will have to make “I guess we’ll get used to the new view, but we need new reference points. In all my time in Formula 1, I’ve never really gotten a good look out of a Grand Prix car” “There are so many blind spots, you need a lot of gut feeling in wheel-to-wheel moments” He summed up his words by being confident that they will adapt to it soon “In the new car you will first have to trust your instincts when it comes to a duel. But I also think that after a few race weekends we will have forgotten how bad the visibility is” Fast Feed Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton thinks that “it’s one of the most exciting and interesting seasons that [he’s] ever embarked upon” [F1] “I feel the freshest that I ever have. Of course, there are so many different ways you can re-focus and get re-centred” “I would say this [break] was one of the best I’ve ever experienced” For Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, “the initial feeling is not bad” [Ferrari F1] “But we shouldn’t get carried away by the timesheets, as these are early days and everyone is still hiding their true form” “It’s impossible to have a clear picture just yet, so we have to stay focused and keep working hard” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner pointed out that “it was a very short off-season” [Res Bull F1] “It’s great to be back at the track and see the number one on the car” “It’s been a long time since it’s been on an F1 car and our target this year is to keep it there” For Mercedes driver George Russell “it was great to be behind the wheel going through the test program, and get a first look at this new car, the new tyres, the new downforce characteristics” [Mercedes AMG F1] “A lot to learn, a lot to analyse, and a lot to improve as always, to try and go forward and make the car go even faster” “We’re here to do a job which is understanding what the car is doing” McLaren’s Lando Norris “didn’t want to be P1 [at the end of the first day of testing]” “If anything I would rather be last because now expectations will be so high and everyone thinks we are incredible” “People will probably go much quicker than what I did. It was still a good day, we learnt a lot of things – I learnt a lot of things” Will drivers use the low visibility from inside the 2022 cars as an excuse for causing crashes?
While Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton engaged in a fierce on-track rivalry last season, most of the off-track drama was provided by their respective team principals Christian Horner and Toto Wolff which included quite a few verbal jibes. Wolff has now looked back at this rivalry while speaking to Formula 1 Magazine Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxHoUKxmAZbAue_BJC6JKEEIvv8PsnMV_0 0:00 - Why Toto Wolff “Really” Regrets Verbal Spats With Christian Horner 1:10 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Why Toto Wolff “Really” Regrets Verbal Spats With Christian Horner Wolff began by pointing out how things got really personal between the two “I really regret it. I always try to stay professional, approach things professionally. However, at some point it became very personal between the two of us” He then looked at what he felt was the peak of this rivalry “At one point [following the flexi-wings controversy] he said that I should keep my mouth shut. Then I responded by saying he was a windbag and talked too much for the cameras” He signed off by explaining why he shouldn’t have made such statements “I shouldn’t have said that because it’s a professional relationship and you know that even your worst enemy has a best friend” “So you have to respect that person, even if you fight a hard duel” Fast Feed Mike Elliott, technical director of Mercedes, feels that “the overall performance of the new cars probably won’t be much different from the old cars” [Mercedes AMG F1] “The cars will look very different. They will perform quite differently and that is going to be interesting to watch” “All of this year’s cars will look fairly similar [to each other]. The differences will all be subtle changes in the aerodynamic shapes particularly underneath the car” Former F1 driver Stoffel Vandoorne has stated that “you didn’t see everything that happened behind the scenes, all the politics” during his time in F1 at McLaren [Dernière Heure] “It’s not easy to drive at your best when you know that the team is negotiating with other drivers behind your back” Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko feels that “[Carlos] Sainz was unlucky to debut at the same time as [Max] Verstappen” [Autorevue] “He was immediately fast and good. We already saw in the first tests at Silverstone. He was as fast as Verstappen” “Sainz certainly belongs among the top drivers. He has proven that” Alpine’s Fernando Alonso has divulged that “last year when [he] was testing the old Renault on [his] comeback to the sport, [he shared] a couple of days with [Guanyu] Zhou in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.” [F1i] “It’s good for Formula 1 in general, I think, [and] for China, for Zhou” “We are all looking forward to race with him, and [to] welcome him in the best way possible” In a note sent to the media on Monday, Mercedes moved to rubbish the report published over the weekend that stated that the Brackley squad’s chassis had failed a side-impact test [F1i] Red Bull team principal Christian Horner feels that sprint qualifying “wasn’t perfect but if you don’t try something then you don’t know” [WION] “I think there are things that could be done to make it more exciting, to make it more interesting” “But it’s getting quite late now and we’re going to need to have a decision pretty shortly” Did you enjoy the bickering between Toto Wolff and Christian Horner last year?
In 2021, whenever Valtteri Bottas had a poor qualifying session or was forced to start lower due to grid penalties, he would often get stuck behind other cars. This especially hurt Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton in the season finale as Bottas was stuck in the midfield, restricting the strategic options available to his team. Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko, while speaking to Autorevue has now given his thoughts on this Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxaYAiU90aSqgcggt_h5fgPl-7yFtgvupa 0:00 - Helmut Marko Calls Valtteri Bottas “A Loser” 1:35 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Helmut Marko Calls Valtteri Bottas “A Loser” Marko began by speaking about the pecking order in 2022 “I think the balance of power will remain the same. Maybe Ferrari will take another step and win one or two races” He then praised his driver Sergio Perez despite his shortcomings in qualifying “He has made himself legendary in the fight against Hamilton. For us it is clear that he is currently not a driver who can match Verstappen in qualifying, but then you need someone who is not broken by that” He then compared Perez to Bottas “That is the big difference between Perez and Bottas, who is a loser when it comes to overtaking. He’s super-fast, but he can’t overtake in traffic” Bottas managed to finish 3rd in the championship while Perez had to settle for fourth which ultimately proved decisive in the Constructors’ Championship. Marko addressed this next “If you start ninth or 11th, all the qualities Perez undoubtedly has in the race won’t help you. He’s driven at the same level as Verstappen in a number of races, [but] it just fizzles out by the time you’re through [the field]” He signed off by reiterating that Perez does not buckle under pressure “We needed someone who won’t break [under pressure] and that has happened with Perez” Fast Feed Williams driver Alex Albon has reveals that the “bond [between Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase] is impressive” [Formule1] “Max and Gianpiero rarely talk about details because they understand each other so well” During a race weekend, it is not necessary for them to talk for hours about setups of the car. Sometimes they even have the car in order after ten or fifteen minutes” F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali stated that “in 2021 the interest was huge thanks to Max and Lewis. But I also hope that other drivers can get involved in the fight for the title” [Autobild] “We have so many young and talented drivers at the moment, an extremely strong field” “So, the focus right now is whether the new cars will enable more drivers to fight for victories and the title” Retired F1 driver Felipe Massa has suggested that “Ferrari’s best years were with [Michael] Schumacher, then 2006, 2007, 2008” [Motorsport-Magazin] “After 2009, Ferrari was no longer the team of the hour. There have been many changes and it is important to keep a cool head. That is difficult at Ferrari” “Ferrari’s problem is not a driver problem, it’s a car problem, a team problem. Sainz and Leclerc form a very important driver pairing” Alpine’s Ferando Alonso has explained that “the new regulations were too restricted at the beginning” [GP Fans] “So, there were a lot of clarifications of what we can do and what we couldn't do with the FIA. It was a strange new project for everybody” Retired F1 driver Mark Webber feels that “there has to be a way to get the best drivers onto the F1 grid. People want to see the best of the best” [Formel Austria] “Sport needs protagonists like the Lando Norrises, the George Russells, the Max Verstappens, the Charles Leclercs, and even the old Lewis Hamiltons or Fernando Alonsos” “This is so important for motorsport” Will Ferrari ever reach its former glory?
Hey everyone, welcome to another edition of “Rumour Round-Up” and as with the others, all the stories contained within this are to be taken with a grain of salt and haven’t been officially substantiated but are things that are being talked about in the world of F1 that may be interesting, could turn out to be true, or simply plain wrong. Without further delay, here is Rumour Roundup… Mercedes launching a double protest after the 2021 F1 season finale in Abu Dhabi was just one facet of the controversial end to the season. However, Mercedes decided not to appeal the rejection of their protests which did come as a surprise to many at the time. The BBC has now reported a rumour regarding why Mercedes took this route Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkx32rdxcu6l7x6rUP_AyNkGcscGnMDEpGN 0:00 - Michael Masi To Be Sacked To Appease Mercedes - [Rumour Round-Up] 1:45 - Rapid Rumours I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Michael Masi To Be Sacked To Appease Mercedes Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff appeared on multiple interviews and stated that Lewis Hamilton is "disillusioned" with F1 following the events of the last couple of laps of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Lewis, meanwhile, has been silent since the post-race interview conducted by Jenson Button Wolff had later confirmed that their decision to drop the appeal was one that was taken with Hamilton’s approval As per the report by BBC Sport, there was allegedly an assurance made by the FIA that led to this decision Supposedly, a senior source told BBC Sport that Mercedes had dropped their appeal against the results of the race after agreeing on a quid pro quo with the FIA The quid pro quo deal allegedly means the end of Michael Masi’s tenure as the FIA race director Additionally, FIA head of single-seater technical matters Nikolas Tombazis would also step down from his position The FIA is currently undertaking an inquiry into the Abu Dhabi GP and these decisions will probably be made official after the inquiry is completed Rapid Rumours What Sky Sports' Craig Slater can report “today is that, in terms of Lewis Hamilton coming back to Formula 1 [will depend] on the FIA [being able] to deliver on the pledge they made before Christmas to investigate the happenings on that final lap” [Sky Sports] "To come up with some findings, they want to see something tangible from that investigation, and they want to see it sooner rather than later” "The longer this drags on, the longer we don't get a result to that investigation and some findings from the FIA in terms of how F1 is to conduct itself going forward, then the worse the Lewis Hamilton situation is. That's from a senior source close to that situation, which I think is significant” Red Bull has supposedly taken legal action against former chief engineer of aerodynamics, Dan Fallows, over his potential move to the Aston Martin Formula 1 team [Motorsport Week] FIA president Mohammed bin Sulayem “doesn’t think [Lewis Hamilton] will retire. They are rumours” [Marca] “Has he declared that he will not return? No. When you are a driver, you speak for yourself and not what others say about you” Ferrari are seemingly all set to renew Carlos Sainz’s contract by two more years [F1 Fansite] There has been some speculation that former F1 president Jean Todt could join Ferrari in an advisory role Todt responded to these rumours by stating that “in my life I have always wanted to learn something new – to move forward. So whatever I do, it will be something new” [Agence France-Presse] “I prefer to be extremely careful in my comments so as not to inflate rumours that may appear as a result of my words” “One word is enough to draw conclusions from, which in most cases does not correspond to reality” Alpine’s racing director Davide Brivio is supposedly looking to head back to MotoGP [Motorsport] Alpine’s CEO Laurent Rossi added that “on the MotoGP rumours, all I can say is that they are very positive regarding Davide. They all mention that the guy’s missed dearly there” “As regards the future, Davide, just like any other person in the team, will evolve in the organisation that I will decide, following the changes that I will decide. He is no different from the rest of the crew” Would sacking Michael Masi be the right decision?
Red Bull will head into the final race in Abu Dhabi 19 points behind Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship and their driver Max Verstappen is level on points with Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton in the Drivers’ Championship. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has now given his thoughts on their chances of winning both championships while speaking to The Independent Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxaGls2sYfPAYMt3LMx3AJAewuSde3x3rM 0:00 - Christian Horner Suggests Miracle Needed For Championship Win 1:24 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Christian Horner Suggests Miracle Needed For Championship Win Horner began by previewing the final race at revamped Yas Marina circuit “They've changed some things, so it's a different variant to the circuit. We’re going to come out of this weekend and go to Abu Dhabi tied on the world championship, leading by the virtue of race wins” He was then asked to predict who will win the Drivers’ championship “I have no idea. Obviously, we’ve seen performance in recent races, the form is with Mercedes but again Max has fought like a lion this weekend. He’s given it everything” He further suggested that the Drivers’ title carries more prestige "The drivers' title is where the prestige is. That's what people remember” He signed off by stating that their chance of winning the Constructors’ Championship is remote In the constructors' championship, we're on the back foot. We need a miracle to win that. We’ve got one more shot to have a go at winning the title with Max. Someone, Lewis or Max, will come out on top after next weekend” Fast Feed Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has explained that “it’s very important to have a good Saturday [in Abu Dhabi]” “The car is working well, get the long runs in, and then we’ll see what happens – but of course it’s exciting. Basically, we start again like we started the season” “I don't agree with the decisions but, I also don’t want to waste too much time on it because we don’t need to make headlines out of it. They don't deserve that” Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton doesn’t “think [he has] changed the way that [he] races” “I think we’re seeing multiple incidents this year where even with Brazil we’re supposed to do our racing on track in between the white lines and the rules haven’t been clear from the stewards” “From my understanding, I know that I can’t overtake someone and go off track and then keep the position but I think that’s well known between all us drivers but it doesn’t apply to one of us, I guess” Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has accepted that suggesting that Max hadn’t braked hard prior to Lewis running into the back of Max’s car in Jeddah “was obviously not correct, so I'm sorry for that” [F1 Insider] “Hopefully the sad chapter of Saudi Arabia is now closed. In any case, we are only looking forward. We want to win in Abu Dhabi and thus win the title” “We will do everything for that, but we will not start unfair actions” Alpine’s Esteban Ocon has revealed that “the competitor inside of [him] is disappointed to miss out on the podium by such a short distance” “But I’m very proud of the whole team today. What we achieved is outstanding and to take fourth place and add 12 more points in the bag in the championship is what counts” “We move onto Abu Dhabi ready to finish the season on a high and take any opportunity that might come up” AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly is “very pleased with finishing in the top six in front of Ferrari” “I’m really happy with that result and we’re taking home a lot of points again. We knew it was going to be tricky coming to a new track” His teammate Yuki Tsunoda accepted that he “pushed a bit too hard and [he] had the collision with [Sebastian] Vettel” “The pace in the car was looking quite good at that point in the race, so I should’ve held off and waited for another opportunity to overtake” “It was my mistake and I’ve apologised to him. It’s frustrating as I feel like points were on offer” [All quotes taken from the post-race press conference in Jeddah unless otherwise mentioned] Who will win the 2021 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship?
With just two more races to go, a lot of discussion about the various possible outcomes of the races have been going on. One scenario involves a double DNF for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton allowing Max to go into the final race as the strong favorite for the championship. Another scenario involves a DNF only for Lewis, in which case, Max could win the championship this Sunday. A few have suggested that this will motivate Max to cause such a crash deliberately. He has now responded to this while speaking to the press in Jeddah Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkx-8UPLnlxppqSnky9iY0N10Kls2q9JeEm 0:00 - Is Max Verstappen Thinking About Causing Lewis Hamilton To Crash In Jeddah 2:02 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Is Max Verstappen Thinking About Causing Lewis Hamilton To Crash In Jeddah Max began by giving his thoughts on all the off-track drama between Mercedes and Red Bull “I was always very neutral, not very positive or negative. I don't read too much into it and occupy myself with other things in life. I switch off. Of course, I do my stuff in the simulator, but I also have other things in life. That helps a lot” “But we are very motivated. A track like this creates a lot of new opportunity for everyone. Hopefully it will be an exciting weekend and hopefully we will be competitive too. But it's too early to say something about it” He then explained why experience doesn’t make a difference in the fight for the championship “As a driver, you keep learning, even when you're 30 or 32. You don't necessarily get faster, but you can handle certain situations better or prepare better. I also feel a lot better prepared than when I came into F1. I don't think it makes any difference” He added how this has been a cool season “Some might have had a bit more luck in general to be in a good car for a longer time but that doesn’t take away that they’re a great driver and yes, we always try to beat each other, of course. But I think so far it’s been a really cool season” He signed off by responding to the suggestions that he will deliberately cause a crash to gain an advantage in the championship “I honestly don’t think about it. I am here to be focused on getting the best performance out of myself and the car and we’ll see where we end up” Fast Feed Red Bull’s Sergio Perez has stated that “everything is still on the table, the last two races are very important for the team” “It's going to be exciting with Mercedes, hopefully we finish ahead of them” “[The rear wing problem is] under control, we don't have any problems with it. We have different wings at our disposal” Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas feels that “every point is super important. Lewis and I will try to get everything out of it that we can” “But also, we are racers and we have respect. I don't think Max would do the calculations [regarding what a crash] would do in the points” “I don’t think it will change the way we race. We will race as hard and as professionally we can to get the best result” Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz has stated that they “need to outscore [McLaren] by four or five points, which, looking at recent results might seem like a likely scenario” “But we need to remind ourselves that McLaren have been in the fight in every race that we’ve outscored them” "It’s not like we were on an easy route to outscore them before their trouble in the last three races, so it’s been really tight still. We’ve just managed to make less mistakes” His teammate Charles Leclerc added that “hopefully as drivers we can make the difference and yes, I am just really looking forward to try this track for the first time” McLaren’s Lando Norris, meanwhile, doesn’t feel that “there's any point coming here and thinking we're going to have an awful weekend” “Even if we do, we can't think it! I think it's better we come in positive and confident” “We've got some ground to make up and I think it's good to have a good end to this season anyway no matter where we finish” His teammate Daniel Ricciardo accepted that “this year, I mean I definitely had challenges, and I think the street circuits were probably uncharacteristically not strong for me this year” “So, it’s nice to have another chance. I got pretty excited on the track ride and I did a bit of sim as well during the week. So, looking forward to the first few laps” Do you think a crash determine the outcome of the 2021 F1 Drivers’ Championship?
Lewis Hamilton will have a new teammate in George Russell next year. This has sparked plenty of debate in recent times on how the two will co-exist. Hamilton has now revealed to Autosport how he would like his future teammate to progress alongside him Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkxld70l9IQaaGqLVl7LITAAqdjtAEqwl-s 0:00 - Lewis Hamilton Reveals How He Wants To Influence George Russell At Mercedes 1:26 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Lewis Hamilton Reveals How He Wants To Influence George Russell At Mercedes Lewis began by speaking about mutual respect “I think you saw that George is hugely respectful. He's a super-talented young man and I think there’s a huge amount of respect coming in already. There’s just a nice balance at the moment” He then accepted that Russell will want to win “He will want to be fast. He’ll want to win, and all those things you do when you’re new somewhere. I remember when I was competing against Alonso, of course I wanted to beat him in the first race” He further elaborated why he expects this mentality from George “So I appreciate and expect George to have that mentality, otherwise he’s not a winner, you know? I expect him to have that mentality” He then explained why he wants Russell to succeed “I want to see him to succeed. There comes a point where I don’t continue in this sport. He is my teammate and he will be the next Briton I want to see win a world championship” He signed off by expressing his desire to have a positive influence on George “So I really hope that as we go into battle and I want to win on the track, that I can have a positive influence on how he behaves within the team” Fast Feed McLaren’s Lando Norris is “over it. Of course, when people remind me of it, it’s still very disappointing because it was that first opportunity to win a race in F1” referring to the race in Sochi [BBC] “We made the wrong decision but I wouldn’t say I regret anything I did from my side. I did what I thought was best at the time” “I never feel I can say it’s the team’s fault, but… I could have advised them better but if you just think of it in simple terms of me and Lewis had the same mentality of what we thought was best, and that was to stay on track” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has stated that “fighting for two world championships is exactly what we worked hard for” [Red Bull Racing] “We’re going into the last few races and it’s very exciting. In previous years we would have bitten your arm off to be in this position at this point in the championship” Retired F1 driver turned pundit Martin Brundle has suggested that “if you look at laps led, races won so far and all of that, and I think [Max Verstappen's] been a little bit more unlucky with the tyre in Baku, the result of the contact in Silverstone, being skittled in Hungary” [Autosport] “Then Lewis got a little bit lucky [like] with his shunt in Imola. But it kind of feels like, season long, Max has had the best season so far, if you look at the numbers” “I think either of them deserve it, but it just feels as if it’s been Max’s to lose, through bad luck or bad judgment or whatever” Retired F1 driver Ralf Schumacher has stated that “there were rumours that Red Bull were planning an engine change. Funnily enough, I just got a phone call: There will be no new engine this weekend” [Sky Germany] “You want to take advantage of the lead you have and not have five places taken away. You may still react after the weekend. That’s the plan at the moment” Reigning Formula E World Champion Nyck de Vries feels that “it’s very good to stay involved with a team like Mercedes and function in it. So definitely [he would like to continue as their reserve driver]” [GP Blog] If Max Verstappen does need a new engine where should he take it?
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton took a new ICE in Brazil and he has been unstoppable since, storming from the back of the grid to 5th in the Sprint Qualifying and from 10th to a victory in the race. Some have suggested that this is an ominous sign for Red Bull and Max Verstappen as there are only three races left but Max isn’t too worried as he has now explained during the post-race press conference Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkxvsv84sSJk3Rhj3xsnFsb9TBxJEJqAmQ8 0:00 - Why Max Verstappen Isn’t Worried About Lewis Hamilton’s Superior Pace 1:26 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Why Max Verstappen Isn’t Worried About Lewis Hamilton’s Superior Pace Max began by explaining how 2nd was the best he could do in Brazil “I think it was hard racing but good racing and that’s how it should be. I was hoping for a little bit more performance but this result is definitely the maximum we could do” He pointed out how he was defenseless when it came to top speed “Top speed wise it was tough to defend, you can clearly see when they take a fresh engine that it gives them a bit more power” He, however, added that the advantage at the front has been swapping hands between Red Bull and Mercedes throughout the season “It’s been like this the whole year. It went up, comes down, went behind, I’m back in front, so you know a lot of things can happen still” He signed off by explaining why he isn’t worried about the pace shown by Lewis Hamilton in Brazil “Of course, taking the new engine clearly gains them a bit of performance initially – but that will slowly come back to normal. So, yeah, maybe it looks a little bit more dramatic now but I’m confident that slowly that will be a bit more normal” Fast Feed Red Bull’s Sergio Perez has stated that “it was close and it was fun, but I am not here to have fun, I am here to deliver” “I had a great start but then it was very difficult to hold Lewis back, I tried my best to hold onto him but I couldn’t, he was flying!” “Then we were ahead of Bottas by two seconds, we had the position and we had the podium but two laps later the virtual safety car came in. That timing was extremely unlucky for us and it worked perfectly for him” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has suggested that “to come away with second and fourth today, plus the fastest lap was damage limitation this weekend” “We scored 20 points for Max this weekend versus their 25 for Lewis in the Drivers’ Championship, so we’ll take that. We put up as good a defence as we could”, he added “We’ve got some catching up to do this week. There’s a lot of racing still to go, so we’ll brush ourselves down and come back fighting in Doha”, he summed up Mercedes' team principal Toto Wolff stated that they “started the weekend on the backfoot with [their] self-inflicted engine penalty” “We got disqualified yesterday which was harsh, and then today in the race, things went against us too” “It felt like everything was against us and I think that’s what Lewis has felt all his life and we now feel it together as a team. We’re going to fight – that is the emotion we’re feeling in the garage at the moment” McLaren’s Lando Norris feels that it was “a disappointing day for all of [them] as a team, as well as for [himself]” “I had a really good start and as I tried to come back onto the track there just wasn’t enough room and I ended up getting the puncture”, he added “We could’ve scored some good points. We’ll review it and try to do a better job next time. The fight back through was good, managing to score a point, which is better than nothing”, he summed up AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly is “really happy, it’s been a very intense race, but I think we can be pleased with today” “There were some really nice battles, with Daniel and Seb, then at the end of the race with the Alpines. It was so fun to be racing with them, as we don’t often get to do that in F1” “It was of course hard, but today we finished in the best position we could, behind the top three teams, and that’s the most important thing, as we continue our fight” Will Red Bull be able to close the gap to Mercedes in Qatar?
