2021-22 Southeast Division Preview | The Atlantic Files Ep197
2021-22 Southeast Division Preview | The Atlantic Files Ep197

This week, on the Atlantic Files, the divisional preview series nears a close as the NBA Preseason begins! We previewed the Southeast division this week on top of talking about some preseason observations, Ben Simmons, and Kyrie Irving. The preseason is always one of the most fun times to overreact to every little thing we see. Some undrafted player who had one good preseason game might be a hall of famer. One top player from last season may have underperformed and all of a sudden he's over the hill. Either way, it's all in good fun, but we all know the preseason doesn't mean too much. If you haven't heard by now, Ben Simmons is still holding out from joining the Philadelphia 76ers. He's waiting on his trade so that he never has to play in front of the Philly crowd ever again. He's been getting fined now and his camp is just now going to the NBPA to talk about it because they're finally feeling the heat from losing all this money. Who will finally bend first so we can get this all over with?! Then, there's the other drama-filled saga. Kyrie Irving is still not vaccinated and it doesn't seem like he's going to change his mind at all. That would be fine if they weren't playing in New York City who will not allow him to practice nor play in any home games. Kevin Durant expressed some confidence that they'd have him come back this season, but at this point no one truly knows. Finally, we get to the divisional preview portion of the episode. The Southeast division is home to some very bad teams and some exciting upstart teams. The Orlando Magic is a team that probably will endure the same misfortunes they've been experiencing for a long time. The Charlotte Hornets, on the other hand, look to be on the up-and-up and they have one of the most exciting young players in the league. Then there are the teams who actually can compete for playoff spots and some play-in games. The Washington Wizards probably will take a step back, but have a fighter's chance if Bradley Beal ends up staying in DC. Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks are easily in the driver's seat of the division and have the Miami Heat in the passenger seat behind them. The Hawks surprised a lot of people in the playoffs last season and they essentially return the same team. Miami, however, made themselves a nice big three of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Kyle Lowry. Listen to the episode to hear our thoughts on all of this and more! #TraeYoung #AtlantaHawks #KyrieIrving #BenSimmons Timestamps: 0:00 - Intro 3:00 - NBA Preseason observations 24:09 - Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons drama 47:27 - Orlando Magic preview 53:02 - Charlotte Hornets preview 1:00:38 - Washington Wizards preview 1:05:29 - Miami Heat preview 1:09:57 - Atlanta Hawks preview ---------------------------- LAST EPISODE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zbl9yzwuSwM The New York Knicks are smashing all expectations! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z5OEh05aq0 ---------------------------- The Atlantic Files is the #1 podcast on the #1 division in the NBA. Philadelphia 76ers Year in Review | The Atlantic Files Ep191
Philadelphia 76ers Year in Review | The Atlantic Files Ep191

The Year in Review tanks are revving again as this week, on the Atlantic Files, we continue our annual series with the Philadelphia 76ers. Plus, we have news of signings and extensions as free agency continues in the midst of some great NBA Summer League. First things first, we discussed the latest signings and extensions that happened after our last episode. Dennis Schroder took a ton less money to sign with the Boston Celtics rather than taking the guaranteed 80+ million that the Los Angeles Lakers were prepared to give him. This could either go down as one of the worst decisions ever, or a 'bet on yourself' type of decision like Fred Van Vleet had. Only time will tell us which is which. Marcus Smart signed a four-year extension with the Celtics as well which was the type of move that was sort of expected. Just like the super-max extension that Joel Embiid signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. The big man is set to make over $200M which has made a lot of people start to speculate whether a big Ben Simmons trade is happening or not. Speaking of Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, and the 76ers, we took a look at their whole season in review and handed out some report cards for everyone. Simmons has often been blamed for the downfall of the whole team this past year. What else went wrong? Does the blame fall only on Simmons's shoulders or should some others get thrown under the bus with him? Tune in to hear the answers to those questions and more! #Philadelphia76ers #JoelEmbiid #BenSimmons #76ers #Sixers Timestamps: 0:00 - Intro 2:10 - New signings and extensions 2:35 - Patrick Beverly trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Minnesota Timberwolves 11:30 - Marcus Smart extension with Celtics 16:50 - Dennis Schroder headed to Boston 22:30 - Joel Embiid's super-max with the 76ers 27:45 - Philadelphia 76ers year in review ---------------------------- LAST EPISODE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuQU8JXGtWk Collin Sexton, Dejounte Murray, or Derrick White Which Atlantic Team should trade for each one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToXTTVnBUb4 ---------------------------- The Atlantic Files is the #1 podcast on the #1 division in the NBA. New York Knicks Year in Review and look ahead | The Atlantic Files Ep190
New York Knicks Year in Review and look ahead | The Atlantic Files Ep190

The annual Atlantic Files Year in Review series continues this week with a special guest! We bring back Glen Johnston to the show who was on a couple of seasons ago to talk about his New York Knicks and their near-last-place woes at the time. Before we jumped into the Knicks last season, we had to hit on some free agency and trade news that we weren't able to fit in last week's episode. DeMar DeRozan is headed to the Chicago Bulls! Plus a lot of stars and superstars signed for a ton of money such as Luka Doncic, Steph Curry, and more. With the offseason that the Bulls have had so far, we posed the question, are they now a top-four team in the Eastern Conference? We're very mixed in our opinions, but we all know that Chicago is definitely going to be in the playoff mix this year. Finally, we get to the New York Knicks. They smashed through everyone's expectations last season as Julius Randle did with the expectations of him as well. We all give them a grade as well as discuss what they can do in the future to become real championship contenders. Also, would Collin Sexton have been better than Kemba Walker? Take a listen and let us know your thoughts!
