Off the back of the Blues’ Champions League triumph at the weekend, Thomas Tuchel’s side are back in the market looking to strengthen their title credentials for next season. The main story is Jadon Sancho - despite reportedly agreeing terms with Manchester United, Chelsea still think they can sign him themselves, using Callum Hudson-Odoi as bait to fill the hole that Sancho would vacate. There also links with Adama Traore as a Reece James deputy, with the Spanish international having the physical attributes to play a right wing back role - something that few others possess. But if there’s ins, there’s outs, and Fikayo Tomori looks set to move to AC Milan for £25M after a successful loan spell this season. Elsewhere, Eden Hazard has quashed any transfer rumours by saying he is set to stay and fight for his place under new boss Carlo Ancelotti - although Gareth Bale tried something similar and he was shipped out. Finally, there could be upheaval at Manchester City. Trent Alexander-Arnold despite weeks of speculation is ON THE PLANE. Starting in that match will be Jesse Lingard, who also misses out - but there was a focus on youth in the wing position, with Bukayo Saka making the cut! The Arsenal wonderkid has carried his team on his back at points last season, so the tournament will be valuable experience for the teenager. On today’s video, we’re counting down the biggest failures of the 20/21 season. Of course, we had to dig into the relegated sides, with Sheffield United and Schalke enduring terrible campaigns, but we also looked at title-contenders faltering in Europe, like Inter Milan, and talented sides failing to make good on their promise, like Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund. Eden Hazard’s continued misery at Real Madrid also makes the cut, and we take a victory lap for our prediction that Juventus and Barca’s swap deal with Arthur and Pjanic would turn out badly. Then we have Celtic, missing out on 10 in a row to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers; the mess that is VAR and the handball rule; and finally Liverpool, who have managed to follow up one of the best years in their history with a calamitous year full of injuries, defeats, and Juergen Klopp tantrums. Will The BeNeLiga Change Football Forever? | Explained
► SUBSCRIBE to FOOTBALL DAILY: http://bit.ly/fdsubscribe On today's Explained, we take a look at the proposed merger between the Dutch Eredivisie and Belgian Pro League, and discuss whether this could be the first of many cross-national leagues in world football! On the 16th March, the Belgian Pro League confirmed that 25 of the country’s biggest football clubs had voted unanimously in favour of exploring the possibility of establishing the BeNeLiga, which would see the best sides from Belgium and the Netherlands come together to form a new, cross-border league. While Dutch clubs are yet to hold such a vote, there have been discussions since 2019 between six clubs from the Eredivisie and five from the Pro League over the possible merger, and if it becomes a reality, it will hold big ramifications for football in the region and beyond. It would likely see the dissolvement of the Eredivisie, which has run since 1956, and the Pro League, which was established in 1895, bringing an end to over a century of footballing tradition in both countries – a situation many fans don’t want to see happen. However, it also promises a higher quality, more competitive league, in doing so bringing in more money through television revenue, and with the hope that clubs like Ajax, PSV and Club Brugge will challenge more consistently in Europe, having seen their standing in continental competition decline in the decades since the establishment of the Champions League. It’s also been seen as a reaction to the looming spectre of a European Super League, and the drastic changes to the Champions League which come into effect from 2024. But how would the BeNeLiga work? Is it really needed? And could this be the first of many cross-national leagues?
