Millwall Vs Preston North End Match Report.

#Millwall Vs #PrestonNorthEnd Match Report. Millwall and Preston North End played out a 0-0 draw in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night. Gary Rowett opted for an unchanged starting XI for the visit of The Lilywhites, with two changes coming on the bench, as Jed Wallace and George Saville returned from injury. The first 15 minutes lacked action, but The Lions penetrated the Preston penalty area for the first time with 15 minutes on the clock, but Oliver Burke's low cross was cleared away before reaching Benik Afobe. out.stream powered by ADITION An intelligent pass from Murray Wallace saw Mason Bennett turn his marker before being hauled down by Sepp van den Berg - who was booked - before The Lions had a free-kick in a promising position with 19 minutes played, but Bennett's kick struck the wall before Burke's touch took the ball out of play. The game came to life shortly before the half-hour mark as a Scott Malone corner-kick was cleared out as far as Maikel Kieftenbeld on the edge of the area - the Dutchman unleashed a goal-bound effort on the volley, but a Preston body was there to deflect the ball behind. Bennett was then the next to strike from distance, but his attempt was comfortable for Daniel Iversen. North End's first shot of the night came from Emi Riis with 33 minutes played, but the attempt from outside the area was gathered by Bartosz Bialkowski. Danny McNamara's ball over the top set Afobe away as the second-half got underway, but the striker's first touch was heavy and allowed Iversen to rush out and smother any attempt on goal by the frontman. Bennett's effort from distance went wide just before the hour-mark in a night of little action in front of goal, with the double introduction of both Jed Wallace and Connor Mahoney injecting some life into The Lions on 61 minutes. However, three minutes later it was the visitors who could have taken the lead as Shaun Hutchinson pulled down Liam Lindsay inside the box, directing referee Kevin Friend to point to the spot. Ben Whiteman stepped up, but his spot-kick struck the post before bouncing to safety. Despite both teams huffing and puffing from there, further action in front of goal was limited - Murray Wallace clipping a right-footed cross across goal and wide with five minutes to play, before substitute Tyler Burey tried his luck on 88 minutes in the final true event of the evening. Millwall Vs West Brom Match Report
Millwall Vs West Brom Match Report

#Millwall vs #westbromwichalbion full time #Matchreport Millwall recorded a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion in the Sky Bet Championship at The Den on Saturday afternoon. Mason Bennett opened the scoring after 67 minutes with a finish from an acute angle, before Benik Afobe doubled the lead with a classy strike just nine minutes later. Gary Rowett made one change for the visit of The Baggies, as Oliver Burke came in for his home debut at the expense of George Evans, who dropped to the bench. The visitors started the afternoon on top and almost scrambled home the opening goal with just four minutes on the clock, but after a corner-kick failed to be clear, Bartosz Bialkowski managed to clutch the ball in amongst a batch of flying boots inside the six-yard box. Bialkowski then had to pull of an outstanding save from Baggies new boy Andy Carroll just a minute later, as the Pole got down quickly and well to parry the attacker's strike away from goal. Sloppy possession then led to Karlan Grant shaping to shoot, but his effort sailed over. After all four sides of the ground rose to their feet in memory of Isla Caton, Albion continued their charge on The Lions' penalty area, with Darnell Furlong's cross going across the face of goal without any telling touch, before Carroll fouled Danny McNamara on the far side to relieve the pressure. At the other end, Millwall's first chance of the game came on 12 minutes, but after patient build-up play saw McNamara cross to the back post, Scott Malone ballooned an effort over. McNamara's half-chance then went wide of the far post six minutes later, before the biggest chance to date went begging just after the midway point, as Benik Afobe was just unable to reach McNamara's cross, fashioned from Burke's smart pass on the halfway line. There were just over 30 minutes elapsed when determination from Bennett saw the ball deflect into the path of Afobe, but the striker could not control in what would have left him in a one-on-one situation with David Button, allowing the Albion defence to clear. Millwall had the first chance of the second-half, but after Burke's header set-up Afobe for a chance on goal, he sliced his effort over the crossbar. Burke then beat his man and looked set to score before a top save from Button kept Albion's sheet clean, before the loanee had another chance to open the scoring as he took down Malone's long pass, but his first touch took him away from goal. The opportunities kept coming for Millwall, with Maikel Kieftenbeld threading a pass through to Bennett with 56 minutes on the clock, but the close attentions of Cedric Kipre were enough to ensure that the frontman's effort failed to trouble Button. Shortly before the hour-mark, West Brom substitute Callum Robinson nearly made an instant impact as his deflected effort had to be tipped behind by Bialkowski, but with 67 minutes played, the deadlock was broken - by Millwall. As a Malone free-kick was sent in, the ball bobbled around, hitting the head of two, before dropping to Bennett at the far post, who made no mistake in firing home, despite the attempts to clear on the line. Nine minutes later, it was two - as Afobe chased down a lofted ball, he beat his marker before checking back onto his left foot and striking a stylish effort past Button to double the advantage. Afobe almost had a chance to notch a second - and Millwall's third - but his touch let him down as he sprung past the last line of The Baggies' defence, with The Lions seeing out the remainder of the game in no real trouble of conceding. Rowett was disappointed that the Lions followed up a first half in which they were the better team and had the lead through Benik Afobe’s goal with a slow start to the second to allow Palace to equalise a minute after the break through Michael Olise. Olise then crossed in the 58th minute for Jean-Philippe Mateta to head home what proved to be the winner. Rowett felt Mateta was offside in the build-up to the first goal, but the Lions manager was more focused on his side’s defending. “I think we acquitted ourselves pretty well for the vast majority of the game,” Rowett said. “In the first half we started really well. You knew that with the atmosphere at The Den it was all about trying to make it a really quick, aggressive start. “We did that quite well, we looked really assured as a team first half in and out of possession. We scored a very good goal, we worked a little bit on when we could get higher up the pitch and put pressure on. Jack Butland just takes a little bit of time on the ball and we manage to pinch it off him and score a good goal. “I thought we looked fine first half, I was really pleased when we came in at half-time. Second half what you can’t do against a Premier League side, or any side, is start like that. We can’t allow Olise time on the ball. “I think there is an offside in the build-up when the ball goes into the striker, I think Matetea is just offside, but then you can’t allow Olise to come inside the pitch. He’s left-footed, you’ve got to force him outside, and it was a poor goal for us to concede. Then after that we conceded another poor goal when Olise again comes inside, chips a ball into the box and we’ve got two players in there against their two and we allow a free header. “Disappointing but I was pleased with the response afterwards. It was just whether we could go and get that second goal, really. “When you’re playing against a Premier League side that goes so strong and then brings on the likes of [Christian] Benteke and [Odsonne] Édouard you know that it’s going to be a game where you have to maintain it for 90 minutes. You can’t drop your guard, you can’t make mistakes because they’ve got players who can punish those mistakes. “That 10-, 15-minute spell [after half-time], yes they upped their game, yes they attacked with more intensity but I would expect us to be able to maintain that in the 46th, 47th minute. If it happens in the 80th minute when we’re a little bit fatigued then I can half-expect that. “But to make those mistakes so early in the second half was a little bit disappointing because it just took the shine off what was a pretty good performance overall.” Taken from News at Den https://newsatden.co.uk/83056-millwalls-gary-rowett-on-offside-before-palace-goal-but-boss-more-concerned-with-defending/ if you want to check out recast click this link. https://share.recast.app/u/8eEaz?referrer=6nzzw Be sure to follow us on our socials below - we appreciate any and all comments or feedback on the show.
