According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the Dallas Mavericks are signing Tyler Hall to a training camp deal. Hall played in one game for the New York Knicks this past season. Smith: "The Dallas Mavericks have signed forward Tyler Hall to a training camp contract, a league source tells @spotrac." Hall played his college basketball for Montana State, and he played in one game for the New York Knicks this past season. Last season, he averaged a very solid 15.5 points per game in 25 regular season games in the G League. The 25-year-old is probably not going to make the roster since it is for a training camp deal, but these deals are always good for both parties. They give a player a chance to show what he can do in training camp with the NBA team, and the team gets a chance to see if they would be a good fit either now or down the road. The Mavs are coming off a very impressive season where they were the fourth seed in the Western Conference. Jason Kidd was also in his first season as head coach of the team. Yet, they made a surprise run all the way to the Western Conference Finals after beating the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Against the Suns, they rallied back from trailing 0-2 to win four out of the next five games. They also won a Game 7 on the road in Arizona. In the Conference Finals, they lost in five games to the Golden State Warriors (who won the NBA Championship). https://www.si.com/

NBA investigating New York Knicks for possible tampering in signing of Jalen Brunson.

The NBA is investigating possible tampering charges involving the New York Knicks' free agent pursuit and signing of former Dallas Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson, sources confirmed to ESPN. Teams weren't allowed to make contact with an agent or a player to discuss a deal prior to 6 p.m. ET on June 30, the opening of free agency. Brunson agreed to a four-year, $104 million deal with the Knicks that night. Brunson has several ties to the Knicks organization. Team president Leon Rose, who made a series of trades following draft night to create enough cap space to sign Brunson, is a prominent former player agent whose first client was Brunson's father, Rick. Rose also represented Jalen Brunson at the beginning of his career. Rick Brunson was recently hired as a Knicks assistant, reuniting him with coach Tom Thibodeau, for whom he also served as an assistant with the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves. Jalen Brunson, 25, is coming off a breakout season in which he averaged 16.3 points and 4.8 assists per game. He established himself as Dallas' No. 2 option behind All-NBA guard Luka Doncic, his 2018 draft classmate, after joining the starting lineup on a full-time basis in December. Brunson helped lead the Mavericks to the Western Conference finals for the first time in 11 years, averaging 21.6 points per game during the playoffs. The NBA instituted more stringent anti-tampering penalties in 2019, including raising the maximum fine for teams to $10 million and adding the possibility of suspending team executives, forfeiting draft picks and even voiding contracts. The possibility of the contracts becoming voided is seen as a virtually nonexistent threat. The league on Friday opened an investigation into the Philadelphia 76ers for possible tampering and early contact centered on the franchise's summer free agency class of James Harden, P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr., sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday. Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has already begun answering questions from league attorneys, sources said. Last year, the NBA stripped the Bulls and Miami Heat each of a second-round pick for early contact with free agents Lonzo Ball and Kyle Lowry, respectively, in 2021. The Milwaukee Bucks were punished with the loss of a 2022 second-round pick for tampering charges in connection with Sacramento Kings restricted free agent Bogdan Bogdanovic prior to the 2020 season. Information from ESPN's Tim MacMahon was used in this report.

Rumors Cavaliers not interested in Dallas Mavericks pieces in Collin Sexton trade.
Rumors Cavaliers not interested in Dallas Mavericks pieces in Collin Sexton trade.

The Dallas Mavericks still want to upgrade their roster before training camp. They are exploring the trade market and searching for the right move. The Mavs have been linked to Collin Sexton because he is the best available free agent and they need another ball-handler, but the situation is complicated. Sexton is a restricted free agent, so the Cleveland Cavaliers can match any deal he signs. Cap space across the NBA has dried up. The Mavericks can only offer him a minimum contract. They could explore sign-and-trade routes, but base-year compensation and the Cavaliers roster crunch both make that difficult. Still, fans believe it is possible, but Chris Fedor threw cold water on that rumor during his appearance on the Please Don’t Aggregate This podcast hosted by Jake Fischer. He talked a ton about the Sexton stalemate before diving in specifically on why a sign-and-trade with the Mavericks just is not possible. Cleveland has multiple goals. They want to bring Sexton back, but they are not willing to pay him his desired $20 million per season. The Cavaliers want to avoid the luxury tax with Darius Garland’s extension on the horizon, and they prefer keeping cap space open for the summer of 2023 when LeBron James may just want to return home in free agency. Fedor had this to say about the Mavericks acquiring Collin Sexton via a sign-and-trade. "In terms of Dallas specifically, I’ve checked in on that, and I’m told that the Cavs have no interest in any of the pieces that Dallas would try to flip them in a potential sign-and-trade. Spencer Dinwiddie has $20 next year that he would have to make, so that would be the Cavs taking on more salary beyond 2023. And then, the same thing goes for Tim Hardaway Jr. and some of the other guys." Fischer and Fedor both noted that the two sides have likely talked about potential deals, but both teams realize that there is just no match for a deal. Fischer also mentioned that the Mavs have discussed Tim Hardaway Jr. in trades both at last season’s trade deadline and this summer, but no deal has materialized. Cleveland is not willing to take back multiple players in a sign-and-trade for Sexton, and they want no long-term money. Sexton’s best option is likely returning to Cleveland on his qualifying offer and testing the market as an unrestricted free agent next summer when more teams have cap space. The Dallas Mavericks do not have the pieces to acquire Collin Sexton, but they are still searching for a trade this summer. Stay tuned to see if one materializes before training camp opens in late September. https://thesmokingcuban.com/
