The Fresno State football team scored no points in the second half and fell 16-14 to San Jose State to conclude the 2016 season. The Bulldogs (1-11 overall, 0-8 Mountain West) finished with the worst record in the Football Bowl Subdivision and failed to beat an FBS program in a season. The season included Tim DeRuyter getting fired as head coach eight games in and interim coach Eric Kiesau went winless during the final four games.

But the move backfired as Falcons backup Arion Worthman ignited Air Force in the second half, rushing for 102 yards and two touchdowns and pull off a 31-21 comeback victory against Fresno State at Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs (1-8, 0-5) matched the longest losing streak in program history, dropping their seven straight.
