Two goals from Connor McDavid propelled the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. Tyson Barrie notched a pair of assists for Edmonton (20-13-0). Mathieu Perrault had the lone goal for the Jets (18-10-2), tipping in a long shot midway through the second period to temporarily tie the game at 1-1. Edmonton goalie Mikko Koskinen stopped 24-of-25 shots and Laurent Brossoit registered 19 saves for Winnipeg. It was vintage Carey Price in the Montreal net on Monday night as the Canadiens closed out the first half of the shortened 56-game season in style. The veteran netminder delivered a stellar performance in a 4-2 road win over Winnipeg, providing a steady presence throughout and coming up with key saves when called upon. Winnipeg remained four points behind first-place Toronto (40 points) in the North Division standings. The Jets have two games in hand on the idle Maple Leafs. Montreal is alone in fourth place with 33 points, also with two games in hand on Toronto. Twitter: https://twitter.com/RealCanadianZ Second Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/CanadianZombie223/videos

The high-flying Maple Leafs had outshot the Jets by a combined 77-50 and held a 142-83 edge in attempts on goal through the first two meetings of their three-game set against reigning Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck _ largely the reason the visitors had secured three of a possible four points earlier in the week. The rubber match was an entirely different story. Adam Lowry scored the winner in the third period and added an assist as Winnipeg stifled Toronto's attack in a grinding 5-2 victory over the North Division leaders. Mark Scheifele and Mason Appleton, also with a goal and an assist each, Nikolaj Ehlers and Paul Stastny provided the rest of the offence for Winnipeg, which now sits just four points back of the Leafs in the standings with two games in hand. Laurent Brossoit, who started with Hellebuyck getting a well-earned rest, stopped 20 shots. Go ahead and call Connor Hellebuyck the great equalizer. If the blocker fits, you might as well attach it to the Winnipeg Jets goaltender. At this stage of the proceedings, the Toronto Maple Leafs have probably muttered more than a few choice words under their collective breath in response to what they’ve seen so far from Connor Hellebuyck through two games of this mid-season series with the Jets. Whether it’s Hellebuyck casually using the paddle of his stick to thwart a scoring chance off the left skate of William Nylander, or using his glove to snare a slapper off the stick of Joe Thornton, the highlight reel was full of saves like those on Thursday night in Toronto. Never mind the three breakaways Hellebuyck calmly turned aside. But it wasn't enough. Another one-game winning streak ended Tuesday when the Canucks were handily beaten 5-2 by the Winnipeg Jets, 24 hours after Vancouver’s 4-0 win in Manitoba marked one of its best performances in what has been a pretty dismal National Hockey League season. It was the same story two weeks ago when the Canucks returned home from a 5-1 win in Calgary and were shut out 2-0 by the Jets. Vancouver followed its 4-1 win in Winnipeg on Jan. 30 by getting embarrassed by the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, who combined for five straight wins over the Canucks by an aggregate score of 26-10. The comeback kids did it again. Kyle Connor scored twice and Nate Thompson’s first goal as a Winnipeg Jet was the game-winner as the Jets battled back to pick up their third win in a row with a 6-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. The Jets scored six times in the final two periods to erase another early two-goal deficit.
