Every team wants to get the best player in each draft, but sometimes you just don't have a realistic chance at the higher picks. The loaded 1996 NBA Draft was an unforgettable one, not just because of the talent in it, but because of where one of the greatest of all time got picked. This is the story of how Kobe Bryant managed to fall all the way to #13, and not even remain on the team that picked him. Some greats were picked before him, and some greats were picked after, but Kobe ultimately wound up as the best of his draft once we saw what he was capable of in his prime. Ultimately, it paved the way for high school guards and perimeter players to make the jump and not be perceived as a terrible gamble anymore. 1 PHI Allen Iverson 2 TOR Marcus Camby 3 VAN Shareef Abdur-Rahim 4 MIL Stephon Marbury (Traded to acquire Ray Allen) 5 MIN Ray Allen 6 BOS Antoine Walker 7 LAC Lorenzen Wright 8 NJN Kerry Kittles 9 DAL Samaki Walker 10 IND Erick Dampier 11 GSW Todd Fuller (played 225 games total) 12 CLE Vitaly Potapenko ---------------------------------------------------- Some books I read to learn more and get some content or quotes for my videos: Showboat: The Life of Kobe Bryant https://amzn.to/38CRZdR The Mamba Mentality: How I Play https://amzn.to/3rwCmNx ---------------------------------------------------- Subscribe and share and I'll keep bringing more great NBA content. I'm planning on making a lot more videos on more than just the Lakers, so make sure those notifications are on! Any feedback/suggestions are always welcome. Leave it in the comments below.
This is a regular season game from 2002 between the Lakers and Celtics that ended in controversial fashion. Upon reviewing the video of this game, some said that Kobe's fingertip was still touching the ball when the clock hit 0. What's surprising is that the Boston commentator (Tommy Heinsohn) even said it was off in time, and Tommy is usually very biased against non-Celtics players and teams. But the fact that even he admitted that Kobe got it off says something. It's almost impossible to tell for sure just using the film I had to make this video. Phil Jackson said "It was close, probably the only good call they made all night." "It felt good to me," Bryant said. "I thought it was off before the horn sounded because I always listen for the horn to make sure I got the shot off. From what I understand, it was the one official, Sean Corbin, who decided to wave it off." It was as close as you could possibly get on a last second field goal. Either way, we can consider this to be another example of Kobe's brilliance down the stretch, even though he came up short by less than a TENTH of a second. ------------------------------------------------------------ I made a mistake in this video - Kobe had 6 game winners in the 2010 season, Mavericks included. I just remember it not counting as a standard gamewinner because the Lakers got free throws afterward. But it's 6 total for the year.
My previous video was taken down because I used about 1 minute of Kobe's Detail for context and that is apparently too much content for Disney (nickyoung.jpg) to just fuck off. Here's the words of Donovan Mitchell again for those who may have missed it. ------------------------ Context: Kobe analyzed Mitchell's game 1 performance, pointing out key intangibles such as acknowledging that he is the team's leader and needs to carry himself on the court in a certain way to be most effective in leading his team. Mitchell made some adjustments and found himself in foul trouble in game 2, but he made sure his impact was felt more despite having a bad shooting night. ------------------------- Donovan Mitchell is a great in the making. He's had a spectacular rookie season (in case you missed it), shows incredible maturity and poise as a takeover scorer and clutch performer, and now he's having his own game film broken down by the best student this game has ever seen. I think it's safe to say Mitchell will become a top 10 player in the NBA very soon, and a top 3 scorer with it. Do you guys agree? How long til he's a legitimate star?
If you're reading this, great! I need a bit of your help. I'm starting my second NBA YouTube channel, and would appreciate if you'd subscribe to it so I can get it off the ground. Link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaB3FRH12F3OI23xT1SJbpw I'll continue uploading videos here, but some of my newer original content will go there. Thank you for your continued support! Here it is, the long-awaited part 2 of Kobe playing through multiple injuries throughout his career. I added some more context for a few injuries from the first video I made on this topic, so this video ended up being a little bit longer. I hope you all enjoy this second and final installment, so please leave a comment letting me know what you thought. If it's too long, I want to know before I start working on the next video. Share it with your friends and people who still think any player in the post-Jordan era could come close to 3 straight finals runs with their shooting hand and half their body falling apart. If Kobe never got injured, is there any doubt he would have finished #2 if not right next to Jordan as GOAT? I highly doubt the Lakers lose in 2008 or even in 2012 (2011 is debatable) if they weren't so badly injured, but that's all speculation now. What do you think?
