STORRS, Conn. -- Katie Lou Samuelson scored 19 points to reach the 2,000-point milestone and No. 3 UConn overcame a sluggish start to beat South Florida 63-46 on Sunday. Megan Walker added 14 points and Napheesa Collier had 12 for the Huskies (14-1, 3-0 American), who have never suffered a conference loss in the AAC. Samuelson is the 10th UConn player to reach 2,000 points. Enna Pehadzic had 17 points and 12 rebounds for injury-plagued USF (10-7, 1-2), which led for much of the first half and trailed by just six points at the half. Tamara Henshaw added 12 points and 10 rebounds. USF led 6-4 early when UConn coach Geno Auriemma decided to pull all five of his starters, resulting in an audible gasp and then applause from the crowd. The Bulls built that lead to 14-6, after a 3-pointer Pehadzic. UConn's starters returned in the second quarter. The Huskies retook the lead at 20-18 on a layup by Walker and never trailed again. A third-quarter steal by Christyn Williams led to a fast-break layup from Samuelson, which put her over 2,000 points and gave UConn a 44-24 lead. USF is 0-27 against UConn, going back to its days in the Big East. The Bulls are far from alone. UConn is 104-0 against the rest of the American Athletic Conference since its formation in 2013, including 89-0 in the regular season.
CINCINNATI -- Jarron Cumberland scored 22 points, and Justin Jenifer hit a pivotal 3-pointer in overtime Saturday night as Cincinnati blew an 11-point lead in regulation before rallying to a 74-72 victory over UConn. The Bearcats (14-3, 3-1 American Athletic) got ahead by double digits and went more than 7 minutes without a field goal as the Huskies (10-7, 1-3) sent it to overtime. Alterique Gilbert made a floater in the lane just before the buzzer. Cumberland was fouled while shooting a 3 and made all the free throws, and he passed to Jenifer for an open 3 with 1:19 left in overtime that put the Bearcats up 70-65. UConn had a chance for a final shot, but Christian Vital was called for a charge with 1.5 seconds left. The Bearcats won it from the free-throw line. They managed only three field goals in the last 14:47 including overtime, getting 18 points off free throws. They went 25 of 38 from the line while UConn was 13 of 16. Gilbert led UConn with 18 points, and Vital added 16. Both teams were coming off one day of rest. The Bearcats went overtime for a 70-65 win at Tulsa on Thursday night. UConn had a 76-64 home win over Southern Methodist that ended a three-game losing streak. Cincinnati has won consecutive overtime games for the first time since the 1966-67 season. PHILADELPHIA -- Nate Pierre-Louis scored 22 points, Shizz Alston Jr. had 20 points and nine assists and Temple beat South Florida 82-80 in overtime on Saturday despite LaQuincy Rideau's triple-double for the Bulls. Rideau had 18 points, 10 assists and 10 steals to become the sixth Division I player in the last 20 seasons with a points-assists-steals triple-double. It was the second triple-double of the season in the American Athletic Conference, joining SMU's Jimmy Whitt Jr, and the first-ever at Liacouras Center. Quinton Rose added 16 points for Temple (13-3, 3-1 American Athletic Conference), which won its eighth straight home game. J.P. Moorman II had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Alexis Yetna had 24 points and nine rebounds for the Bulls (12-4, 2-2). David Collins added 16 points. The Bulls have had two other players record triple-doubles, with Adrian Hillman getting one against FAU in 1996 and McHugh Mattis versus Winston-Salem State in 2006. South Florida was just 10 of 25 from the free-throw line, but had 17 steals and made 10 3-pointers.
