In its inaugural season, HOME took viewers through the biggest moments and most compelling storylines of what became a surprising and eventful season at Comerica Park. So it's only fitting that in the final episode, the focus turns to the two individuals who had the most impact in shaping the experiences of Tigers fans at the ballpark in 2021: Miguel Cabrera and A.J. Hinch. Viewers get a first person look at how Miguel Cabrera experienced the special tribute ceremony in honor of his 500th career home run, including mic'd up moments of sheer joy. And in an exclusive interview, A.J. Hinch offers his perspective on Miggy's memorable season, as well as the foundation that has been laid for what promises to be an exciting 2022.
With 16 hits, the Tigers offense kept the pressure on the White Sox all game long, but it was a clutch 2-out RBI single from Niko Goodrum in the bottom of the 7th inning that would be the key hit in a 5-3 win. It was the second win in a row over the White Sox, and included perfect a 4 for 4 day from Victor Reyes, and a 3 for 3 day from Daz Cameron.
The Tigers continued their run of recent success against first place teams with a 4-3 win over the White Sox. The game featured a bit of base-running wizardry by Victor Reyes. You'll need to see it to believe it. And of course Hittin' Harold Castro did what he does best, squeezing a well-placed clutch hit between defenders to help his team win the game. It's not luck if you do it over and over again.
In the "something you don't see every day category" you can file away Victor Reyes 2 triples vs the Red Sox, one from each side of the plate. The switch-hitting Reyes led the way to an 8-1 win, as the Tigers took 2 out of 3 in the series vs Boston. Robbie Grossman did a Robbie Grossman thing, leading of the game with his 17th home run of the season.
Miguel Cabrera hit career home run #498 in classic Miggy style - an opposite field line drive. The home run and a single later moved Cabrera past Frank Robinson on the all-time hits list. Later, Akil Baddoo added a key run-scoring double that helped give the Tigers their 3rd straight home win.
The Tigers 4 runs all came off 3 home runs, the last one a towering blast from rookie Akil Baddoo, his 8th of the season. Zack Short connected on his 4th home run in the 2nd inning, and Robbie Grossman got things started with his 15th home run in the first inning. Matt Manning pitched 6 strong innings, giving up just one earned run in a 4-2 victory for the Tigers, their 6th in a row following the all-star break.
In front of the largest crowd at Comerica Park to this point of the 2021 season, the Tigers pulled off an improbable extra-inning victory after former reliever Phil Coke prompted the crowd to turn up the thunder. A Miguel Cabrera pop-up magically found a landing spot, and Jonathan Schoop raced home for the winning run. An amazing ending to a game that also featured an Akil Baddoo bases-loaded triple, and a stellar catch by centerfielder Derek Hill.
