The 34-year-old took the prized wickets of Imam-ul-Haq, Azhar Ali and Babar Azam to end Pakistan's resistance and finished with figures of 5-83 in Pakistan's second innings. Fast bowler Pat Cummins provided ample support by picking up three wickets as Pakistan folded for 235 on the final day of the Test match at the Gaddafi Stadium, chasing a target of 351. Pakistan captain Babar, who saved the hosts from the jaws of defeat in the second Test in Karachi with a 196 in the second innings, made 55. Cummins dismissed Fawad Alam and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, who also struck an unbeaten 104 in the second innings of the drawn Karachi Test, in successive overs with both batters falling leg before wicket. Television replays, however, showed Rizwan would have survived if he had asked for a review of the umpire's decision. Australia also erred by not reviewing a not-out decision for catch against Babar with replays showing the hosts' batting mainstay had got a glove to a Lyon delivery which was taken at slip by Steve Smith. Lyon should have picked up Babar on 45 just before tea but Travis Head failed to hold on to the catch at deep midwicket. The off-spinner had the last laugh when he induced an edge from Babar with Smith, who had a tough time in the series with his catching, completing a brilliant grab low at slip. The first two Tests in the series — the first between the sides in Pakistan since 1998 — were drawn. Opener Imam looked the most confident at the crease for Pakistan, defending resolutely during his knock of 70. He was, however, out straight after lunch when he got an inside edge to his pad against Lyon to be caught by close-in fielder Marnus Labuschagne. The experienced Azhar, playing his 94th test but the first at his home ground, also fell for 17 to Lyon after a decision that stoked controversy. Australia asked for a review of the not-out decision, and the third umpire ruled in favour of the touring side after replays showed a faint edge when the ball passed the bat, although Azhar was convinced he had not hit it.

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja told ESPNcricinfo that the cricket board was in “advanced negotiations” with a number of sponsors. The highest bidder would win the right to have the stadium renamed after it. There have been a number of attempts in the past to change the name of the iconic stadium, but all of them were for political reasons, he said. “However, this one is purely financial,” Ramiz told the publication, adding that other stadiums in the country, including the National Stadium Karachi (NSK), could also be renamed. Shafique and Azam lead Pakistan fightback in second Test “We acquired the services of YouGov [a public opinion and data company] to estimate the brand worth of our stadia, and how much sponsorship deals would be worth,” Ramiz said. “That's not just true of the Gaddafi Stadium, but also the NSK and others. We've been working towards this for a while, and the response from sponsors has been satisfactory. Once we finalise a deal [for Lahore], the name Gaddafi will go completely with a sponsor's name replacing it.” It is worth noting that when the stadium was built in 1959, it was called Lahore Stadium. In 1974, on his visit to Lahore, Gaddafi delivered a speech at the Organization of Islamic Conference where he supported Pakistan's right to seek nuclear weapons. Following this, Pakistan's then-prime minister, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, changed the name of the premier cricket stadium to honour the Libyan leader. When Gaddafi was deposed, there were strong suggestions that Pakistani cricket would want to disassociate itself from him, but this did not gain any traction. Rizwan remained a reliable top-order batter for Multan Sultans when he finished the tournament with 546 runs at a strike-rate of 126.68 and inspired his side to the final after winning nine out of 10 league matches. Rizwan also collected the Wicketkeeper of the HBL PSL 2022 award. In 12 matches, he accounted for nine batters behind the stumps. Earlier in the year, Rizwan was declared the Most Valuable Cricketer as well as T20I Cricketer as part of the PCB Awards 2021. Media houses are instructed to use correct event nomenclature in all texts, headlines and bulletins Lahore, 24 February 2022: Twice former champions Islamabad United won the Eliminator 1 in a dramatic and thrilling fashion to keep alive their hopes of a third HBL Pakistan Super League title as 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi were knocked out in another action-packed night (Thursday) of cricket at the headquarters of Pakistan cricket Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Zalmi paid a heavy price for a missed stumping and a dropped chance against Alex Hales inside the first three overs delivered by Zalmi’s new recruit Ali Majid in United’s 170-run chase. Hales who had returned to represent United for the playoffs made full use of the opportunities provided to him by Zalmi with a brilliant 62 off 49 (six fours, three sixes). The English batter was finally undone by a sensational yorker by Salman Irshad who also removed Asif Ali (7) with a beautifully disguised slow yorker. Asif was dismissed with the score at 119 in the 16th over. His departure left United needing 51 off the last 28 balls. Azam Khan (28 off 22, one four, two sixes) and (player of the match) Faheem Ashraf (19 not out, two fours, one six, one for 15 in three overs with the ball) brought United to the brink of victory with some big hits which left United needing 10 off the final six balls bowled by Benny Howell. Azam was dismissed off the first ball of the final over in what was another twist in the tale of the thriller, however Liam Dawson settled the game in United’s favour with a massive six over mid-wicket and a lap sweep off the following delivery for four as United chased the score down with three balls to spare. Salman finished with three wickets for 31 but Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz had a forgettable night with figures of 4-0-52-0. United will now take on Lahore Qalandars tomorrow night in the HBL PSL 7 Eliminator 2, the winner will proceed to play the tournament final against Multan Sultans on Sunday. Other performers Batting first Zalmi’s seasoned batting pair of Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik hit 50s to help their side muster 169 for five. After the early loss of the big-hitters Mohammad Haris (12) and Yasir Khan (8), Kamran took over the run scoring. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 58 off 39 balls (seven fours, two sixes). This was the first fifty of the season for the Zalmi veteran who has been one of the most prolific run-getters in HBL PSL history. Kamran was dismissed by Shadab after a 40-run alliance with Malik. Kamran was replaced by Hussain Talat who joined Malik in a quickfire 56-run partnership off only 26 balls. Hussain contributed 28 off 15 (five fours). Malik cut loose after the loss of Kamran and after a series of big shots reached his third half-century of the season. The Zalmi batting linchpin was dismissed for 55 (43 balls, four fours, two sixes) on the penultimate ball of the innings. During his innings Malik reached the 400-run mark in the ongoing season, his tally at the end of the innings read 401 runs at 44.55, strike-rate 137.32. Hasan Ali who made a return to the United side after an injury lay-off took three wickets for 30.
