Atlanta United put on a dominant performance Wednesday night in a 4-0 win over FC Cincinnati. Luiz Araújo, Josef Martínez and Ezequiel Barco all scored while Alan Franco recorded three assists, making him the first player in club history to do so. Martínez’s two goals brought his career MLS regular season goal total to 85 which is the most in a player’s first 100 appearances. Araújo quickly handed Atlanta the lead in the fifth minute with a brilliant display of speed and skill. Franco delivered a pass to the Brazilian near the center circle in Atlanta’s half where he was quickly enclosed by three Cincinnati defenders. Araújo turned to his left to find space and was met by Ronald Matarrita, but Atlanta’s Designated Player blew by the Cincinnati captain and raced down the right side. Araújo finished the play by squaring his hips towards goal and placing a left-footed shot into the far side of the net for the 1-0 lead. It was Araújo’s first goal for the club while Franco was credited with his first assist. Atlanta doubled its lead in the 40th minute. From a set piece roughly 40 yards from goal, Araújo lofted a ball into the box on the right side for Franco, who one-timed the ball across goal where Martínez nodded home his seventh goal of the year. Martínez scored his second of the night less than 10 minutes into the second half. Franco intercepted a pass and immediately played the ball to Barco. The Argentine dribbled through the midfield and sent a through ball to Martínez down the left side. The Venezuelan took a few touches before curling a shot to the far corner, leaving Tyton flat-footed for his eighth goal of the season. Atlanta polished off its strong performance in the 86th minute with a free kick goal from Barco. It was his sixth goal of the year. SUBSCRIBE to our channel! #UniteAndConquer
Atlanta United defeated Orlando City SC 3-0 Friday night in front of 42,507 fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Homegrown defender George Campbell scored his first MLS goal, Ezequiel Barco netted his fifth goal of the season and Gonzalo Pineda earned his first win as a head coach. Behind two saves from goalkeeper Brad Guzan, Atlanta United posted its sixth clean sheet of the season. Atlanta’s attacking trio of Barco, Luiz Araújo and Marcelino Moreno opened the match displaying a strong connection in the final third, combining for several chances and threatening Orlando’s goal. Araújo nearly opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he dribbled uncontested from the right side towards the top of the box where he unleashed a curling strike that clattered off the left post. Minutes later, Matheus Rossetto forced a diving save from Adam Grinwis with a shot from distance in the ninth minute. Campbell grabbed the lead for Atlanta in the 25th minute. Orlando conceded a corner kick on the far side which was taken short by Moreno to Barco. He immediately returned the ball to Moreno, who whipped in a cross to the center of the box. Campbell ventured up the field and attacked the ball at the penalty spot, perfectly placing a header into the left side of the goal for the 1-0 lead. Atlanta doubled its lead from a set piece in the 38th minute. Barco delivered a free kick from the left side towards the near post which deflected off Orlando’s Nani and Daryl Dike before bouncing into the net for an own goal. Despite having firm control of the match, Atlanta pressed for more goals in the second half and continued to pile pressure on Orlando’s defense. That pursuit eventually gave way to the home side’s third goal of the match, which began with a long ball from Brooks Lennon over the top of Orlando’s backline. Barco brought the ball down inside the penalty area and dribbled to his right, avoiding three defenders on his way to slotting home a low shot to the right corner. Atlanta United defeated D.C. United 2-1 Saturday night at Audi Field to run its winning streak to four consecutive games. Marcelino Moreno scored the gamewinner in the 82nd minute, while Josef Martinez scored for the fourth time in five games as Atlanta’s matched its second-longest win streak in club history. Atlanta found its rhythm early and put a shot on goal in the third minute. Martínez played a ball out wide to Brooks Lennon, who immediately found Luiz Araújo. The Brazilian created space on the right side and unleashed a strike from outside of the box that forced D.C. a diving save from goalkeeper Jon Kempin. Martínez then gave Atlanta the lead in the 25th minute. Marcelino Moreno drove past Julian Gressel at midfield and dribbled 30 yards through the center of the pitch uncontested. Moreno spotted the run of Martínez and played a ball directly to his feet. Martínez took one took to his right while shielding defender Tony Alfaro off the ball. Kempin came off his line to close down the shot, but the Venezuelan tucked the ball inside the bottom left corner as Alfaro brought him to ground in the process. It was Martínez’s sixth goal of the year and Moreno’s third assist. Atlanta nearly extended its lead in the 43rd minute when Ezequiel Barco played Martínez into the box where he was one-on-one with Kempin. Martínez attempted to round the keeper and was cut down by Kempin in the process, but no call was made. D.C. leveled the match in the 54th minute. Second-half substitute Yordy Reyna curled a free kick over the head of Brad Guzan that skimmed off the crossbar and fell into the goal. Moreno’s game-winner started from George Campbell. The defender, who just subbed in minutes earlier for Alan Franco, won a 50-50 ball at midfield and played on for fellow homegrown George Bello. Along the left wing, Bello sent a cross into the middle of the box for Martinez, who played down the cross between two D.C. United defenders before laying off for Barco. Barco quickly passed to Moreno, who took a couple of steps to his right to clear space, then unleashed a right-footed shot to the far post to beat Kempin. Brad Guzan made six saves on the night to preserve the win. His biggest may have come in the 86th minute when he dove to his right to stop a screaming attempt from second-half substitute Felipe. Atlanta United won 1-0 vs. Toronto FC Wednesday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Ezequiel Barco scored the game-winner while recently signed Designated Player Luiz Araújo made his Atlanta United debut. Atlanta collected its third consecutive win and extended its unbeaten streak to four matches. The club’s new Brazilian forward wasted no time integrating himself into the team’s attack, putting his first shot on frame with a blast from outside the box that forced a save from goalkeeper Quentin Westberg in the eighth minute. Three minutes later, Marcelino Moreno took a shot from outside the box that was hit true, but it ascended just over the crossbar. Toronto eventually conceded as Atlanta took the lead in the 20th minute through Barco. Brooks Lennon sent a long ball down the right side where the Argentine forward gathered it inside the 18-yard-box. He retreated to the right edge of the box before turning towards goal and facing Eriq Zavaleta one-on-one. Barco took a few small touches while shying to his left before unleashing a left-footed shot that took a slight deflection off Zavaleta’s boot before falling into the top left corner of the net, leaving Westberg flat-footed. Atlanta continued to press forward and look for goals but in the 53rd minute, Toronto subbed on a trio of usual starters in Alejandro Pozuelo, Yeferson Soteldo and Kemar Lawrence to try and find an equalizer. Pozuelo nearly leveled the match in the 71st minute when a ball was lofted across the box where he was unmarked at the back post. Pozuelo one-timed a bouncing shot on goal, but Brad Guzan was well-positioned to parry it away from danger. Atlanta had a pair of late opportunities to extend its lead. In the 83rd, Moreno took a low shot across goal and missed just wide of the left post. Four minutes later, Barco chipped a ball over Toronto’s backline for Josef Martínez where the Venezuelan one-timed a shot right at Westberg. The rebound fell to Erik López, who put the ball in the back of the net, but Martínez was called offside on the initial ball. SUBSCRIBE to our channel! #UniteAndConquer
