Smart Lions fans came into this season not expecting much from this team in the win(s) column, but they expected to see growth, the path to success being built. After the first three games, there were periods in each game where the team showed fans that it had talent in positions that allowed them to compete, giving fans hope that the team would be able to come out on top against the Chicago Bears. Instead, the Lions suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of another bad team. Where does the team go from here? Is anything working? How big is the injury problem really? Welcome to the Detroit Lions Podcast! So that happened. Again. The officials really put it to the Detroit Lions and their fans in the game against the Baltimore Ravens. In a game where the Lions did enough to win and the Ravens did enough to lose, the officials decided to lean into the game so it would end based on their absolute joke of blown calls. Lions fans again walk away asking themselves if the NFL is rigged in 2021. We'll have former NFL VP of Officiating Dean Blandino on the show to talk about the situation, what happened, why it happened, and what he might do about it in the XFL. We also fire up the hashtag #HireBlandino once again in an attempt to get some sanity back in the NFL offices. We will also cover why the 4th down play and missed call need to be separated, Jared Goff's difficult start in this past game, upgrades on defensive speed, injuries, and take a look ahead to the coming game against the Chicago Bears. As we know, the show must go on. While the Lions will be heading to Soldier Field, the Bears have had an awful start to the season. A combination of an angry Lions team and the Bears ongoing bumbles might just set the table for Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions to pull off their first win of the season. Lions Show Significant Heart | Detroit Lions Podcast
Welcome to the Detroit Lions Podcast Post Game Show! The Detroit Lions finished their first game of the season with a notch in the loss column, but it was so much more than that. Looking at the standings table doesn't tell the story either. The entire division lost and the Lions are tied for first after week one. The game against the San Francisco 49ers left Detroit Lions fans with a lot of hope, even in the face of that loss. The team showed more heart than we've seen from them in over three years. Any other Lions team would have given up before the second half even started. This team wouldn't let the 49ers hang the big L on them and rallied back from a 38-10 deficit to take the outcome of the game down to their last possession. This showed the maturity of a team much older and more experienced. This gave the players and coaches a lot to build on. I would categorize this as one of the most fun losses this team has ever had. Conversely, probably the biggest blow to the Lions hopes this season was the loss of Jeff Okudah to a ruptured Achilles in the opening game against the San Francisco 49ers. The second year player was the clear number one cornerback for the Lions and the team has its second week against two of the best in the league in the Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. Okudah will be impossible to replace, even with a 'next man up' mentality, but this definitely lines up with the Detroit Lions youth movement and their efforts to build, grow, and evaluate talent for next year and going forward. We also cover, Josh Gordon rumors, Penei Sewell's performance and potential future at left tackle, as well as Jared Goff's performance and what we can expect from him and the team going forward. Lions Final Preseason Game Ahead | Detroit Lions Podcast
Welcome to the Detroit Lions Podcast! Two down one to go and then the countdown to the regular season begins. Is the team as bad as the first half against the Pittsburgh Steelers would make one think? Could they surprise and vie for the division? We'll answer these questions an a whole lot more in this week's show. First things first, we'll set the tone with a review of the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers preseason game. The first half was a real depressing display. followed by a second half comeback that would have made Matthew Stafford proud. The boys weren't able to come away with a win, but boy did we learn a lot about this team. We'll go into it and why not to read too much into what we saw early. From there will look to the Colts game, what the strategy from Coach Dan Campbell will be and why the Indianapolis Colts are actually playing along. From an entertainment standpoint, the game will definitely be better, particularly for those evaluating players who are riding the roster bubble and getting reps while learning the NFL game. We'll do injuries, roster bubble, which of the 53 roster spots currently aren't on the team, a look at ex-Lions around the league, and finally, we'll take a look at Matthew Stafford's big piece.
