This is the play on which Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott injured his hamstring, Mike McCarthy said. A pregame workout Sunday will determine the full scope of Elliott's activity level Sunday vs. Steelers. - Michael Gehlken

The Dallas Cowboys have been hit with a plethora of injuries already in 2020. In particular, the secondary and offensive line units are holding on by a thread. Cornerback Anthony Brown is currently on injured reserve with a rib injury and Chidobe Awuzie will miss multiple weeks with a hamstring issue. Starting right tackle La’el Collins is on injured reserve with a hip injury and backup tackle Cam Erving is out with an MCL sprain. The Cowboys seem likely to have a key member of the secondary this Sunday though as rookie Trevon Diggs, who suffered a shoulder injury in Week 2 vs the Atlanta Falcons and missed practice on Wednesday, is expected to start vs the Seattle Seahawks according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. He’ll do some rehab work before working his way into team drills later. Veteran left tackle Tyron Smith is currently dealing with neck stingers and will do rehab work at practice today. He missed last week’s game vs the Seahawks, however, team owner Jerry Jones is optimistic about his chances this week. “He didn’t play last week in part because we made preparations for the future,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday. “It wasn’t impossible to have him out there last week had we done a couple of things differently, but by design, we didn’t do it that way. We wanted to look to the long term, or the longer-term being the next games, the ones we’re getting ready to play. So, I feel as good as you can feel. I don’t know and nobody knows right now until we get out there and see how he’s operating during the week here at practice. But for the longer term, I feel good about it.” DeMarcus Lawrence, who missed Wednesday’s practice due to the birth of his child, will also be rehabbing a knee ailment. He’ll be eased back into team drills later in practice. The Cowboys definitely hope all three of these guys are available with such a tough opponent like the Seahawks this week as they look to avoid a 1-2 start to the 2020 season. Amari Cooper: "I wish I would have been able to run full speed," a frustrated Cooper said on Thursday. "I couldn't do what I wanted to do. Obviously it would have been a touchdown." Cooper said that a lingering foot injury decreased his speed and was the explanation for what seemed like an overthrow. "It's a lot better [now]," Cooper updated the media on Thursday. "I've been running full speed." Cooper has proven that he's thrived to get better since he arrived in Dallas via trade from the Raiders, and his progress and chemistry with Dak Prescott has surely helped the quarterback's young career as well. Cooper's ability to make a catch like the one he made against Atlanta wasn't luck and athleticism. It was the result of conscious and deliberate practice. "I practice one-handed catches [as if] I can only catch them with one hand," Cooper explained. "Usually it sticks. But it didn't stick. So I had to bobble it and catch it." If improvement is a constant goal of Cooper's then this Sunday's game in Seattle will be a great opportunity. Throughout his career, he has performed drastically better at home than he has on the road. Despite playing one less game at home, he has nearly 1,000 more receiving yards at home than he does on the road. His catch percentage is worse on the road. He has exactly half as many touchdowns in opposing stadiums. But he caught 10 passes against the Rams in Los Angeles in the season opener. A great showing against an undefeated Seahawks team could signal he's turning the corner as a road player, which would only make the Cowboys more dangerous. Cooper knows that he's part of what could be the most effective receiving core in the league, and in a game when that gets fully unlocked, there might not be a team in the NFL that can keep up. CeeDee Lamb's 100-yard game against the Falcons was a reminder of just how dangerous they might be. Cooper, too, recorded 100 receiving yards in his second NFL game, and it was something he thought about in terms of Lamb's confidence after last Sunday. "That 100 yards is the code where a receiver can claim he had a good game," he said. According to Cooper, a game that features a touchdown from him, Lamb, and Michael Gallup as well as 100-yard performances from all three is more than possible. "I know it can happen," Cooper said. "I know it can happen often. And when it does, I know how lethal we can be." Click here for the full article https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/amari-disappointed-with-his-one-handed-catch
Film room: How did the Cowboys' rookie starters fare against the LA Rams CeeDee Lamb, WR Even though he was critical of himself for not running his route deep enough on that fateful fourth down, CeeDee Lamb performed admirably in his NFL debut. In 59 offensive snaps, Lamb accumulated five catches (on seven targets) for 59 yards and two first downs in addition to a punt return for 20 yards. Lamb wasn’t able to show the full extent of his skill set Sunday night but was still able to show that the hype is justified surrounding the 21-year-old receiver. — All22Hype (@All22Hype) September 15, 2020 Lamb’s biggest play of the game came on a deep crossing route off play-action, as Dallas took advantage of Los Angeles' second-level defenders getting sucked up to the line of scrimmage by the run action. It was definitely more scheme than skill that got Lamb open, but he made an excellent adjustment flattening his route angle so that the deep safety to the wide side of the field couldn’t make a play on the pass. If Lamb continued to drift further upfield as he crossed, the safety may have had a chance to make a play. — All22Hype (@All22Hype) September 15, 2020 Lamb’s second catch came on an intriguing bubble screen off orbit motion. It was great play design to get Lamb the ball in space but poor placement on Dak Prescott’s pass prevented Lamb from being able to make much of it. If Lamb would have been able to catch and immediately turn upfield instead of spinning around to make the catch, then he would have been in a much better spot to make the defender miss, which could have led to a big gain for the Cowboys offense. — All22Hype (@All22Hype) September 15, 2020 Lamb’s third catch — a 12-yard completion off a slant — was his most impressive of the game from a route running perspective. Lamb is in the slot facing off coverage from Rams CB Troy Hill. Lamb does an excellent job lulling Hill into a false sense of securing with pace manipulation through the stem of his route, as his release off the line of scrimmage is slow, bordering on lackadaisical, but it’s done for a specific purpose. Once Lamb gets to the breakpoint, he accelerates, enabling him to create separation from Hill, as the change in route temp caught him by surprise. The fact that Lamb understands how to manipulate DBs with his pacing in the cat-and-mouse game of route running is a clear indication that his route-running prowess is much further along than the typical rookie receiver. — All22Hype (@All22Hype) September 15, 2020 Lamb’s fourth grab was on another slant; however, because the DB continued to backpedal despite aligning in off coverage, Lamb didn’t need to incorporate any deception into his route, as a simple slant with normal pacing was going enough to create the necessary space for the reception. Still, and it may seem small, it’s great to see that Lamb doesn’t try to overcomplicate his routes when simplicity will get the job done — as he just does what necessary to create separation and present the QB an open target in the given situation. — All22Hype (@All22Hype) September 15, 2020 Lamb’s final catch of the evening came on the failed fourth-down conversion where Lamb ran a drag route in accordance with Dallas' mesh concept. While Lamb needed to get a little more depth on the drag, Dak Prescott also deserves some blame for the failed conversion, as he didn’t place the ball in an area that would facilitate Lamb picking up the necessary yards after the catch to pick up the first down. If Prescott places that ball out in front of Lamb and enables him to maintain his momentum instead of having to drop his weight to make a catch at his knees, then there’s a chance Lamb’s momentum can carry him just far enough through contact to pick up the first down. — All22Hype (@All22Hype) September 15, 2020 It also didn’t take Lamb long to prove that he adds value as a punt returner, and on his first attempt, Lamb accumulated 20 yards, which was longer than any Cowboys punt return in 2019 - Tavon Austin’s 15-yard return was the longest. Dallas' punt return unit deserves credit for giving Lamb so much space, but Lamb also deserves credit for reading his blocks correctly to maximize the yardage on the return. Ultimately, it was a promising first performance in what should be an outstanding Cowboys career for Lamb. The Cowboys did a good job scheming up touches and Lamb showed off some of the route-running and soft hands that should lead a productive rookie year, and he’s off to a great start, as his 59 receiving yards led all rookie WRs in Week 1. ☕️ Paypal: https://www.Paypal.Me/LawNation (Donate Here!) 💲💳 https://Cash.Me/$LawsNation Be a patron for Law Nation and support more videos like this! https://www.patreon.com/LawNation Article by John Owning For the complete article click here https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/cowboys/2020/09/16/film-room-how-did-the-cowboys-rookie-starters-fare-against-the-la-rams/
James reveals time he considered playing in NFL, and what Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did... LeBron James remembers the last time he was eagerly awaiting a scheduled NBA season, unsure how much longer a delay he’d have to wait. James became so skeptical during the 2011 NBA lockout, he said Monday, that he began exploring another option. He began training for football. “The thoughts came into my mind,” James said on the Uninterrupted’s “After Party” show. “The thoughts came into my mind. … I had no idea how long the lockout was going to be.” The NBA lockout began in July 2011 and wouldn’t be settled until December. Come October and November, James and trainer Mike Mancias began adjusting their workouts accordingly. “We really started to actually train to be a football player,” James said. “We started to clock our times with the 40s. We started to add a little bit more with the bench press and things of that nature. We started to add a little more sled to our agenda with our workouts.” Mancias began encouraging James: What if you go down to Dallas and suit up for the Cowboys? James, and Texas native Mancias, were both Cowboys fans. They allowed their minds to wander. James was amused by the irony that he’d pursue pro football after he never finished his high school football career. In fact, James said he still dreams all the time about playing football. But like his missed senior season, the football dreams don’t give him proper closure. “It’s crazy because I actually never run on the field in my dreams,” James said. “It always gets to the point where I’m either in the locker room or getting dressed or talking about or seeing the fans and as soon as I’m about to run on the field, something else happens in my dream. It’s like something that it always happens like that.” -LeBron James
