And, before long, we’ll be taking a bite out of everybody we play’s ass.” I also delivered a rant about Tulsa football. Tulsa finished 112th on Signing Day 2020. Brennan Presley was voted and named the best offensive player in the entire state. He went to Bixby. And didn’t get a Tulsa offer. Myles Slusher got offers from: Arkansas, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Minnesota, Michigan, Georgia, Notre Dame, Missouri, Colorado, Baylor, UCLA, Kansas, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, Texas, West Virginia, Texas Christian, Oklahoma State, Alabama and LSU. Brought in two former blue chips who can help them immediately in Florida grad transfer QB Feleipe Franks and Oklahoma grad transfer Levi Draper. They finished No. 30 in the rankings after going 2-10. Meanwhile Oklahoma State finished last year with a Texas Bowl berth, a 2,000-yard rusher and is entering Year 15 of Mike Gundy as Supreme Leader at OSU. And they finished 45th in the rankings? LSU, Oklahoma and the meaning of in-state recruiting for national titles
Biletnikoff Award winner Ja’Marr Chase is from Harvey, Louisiana. Kristian Fulton is from New Orleans. Justin Jefferson torched OU for 14 catches, 227 yards and four TDs. He’s from Saint Rose, Louisiana. John Emery Jr. was the No. 13-ranked player and No. 2 running back in the 2019 class. He’s from Saint Rose, Louisiana, too. Derek Stingley Jr. is from Baton Rouge. Terrace Marshall is from Bossier City. Patrick Queen is from Ventress, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire is from Baton Rouge. The ships docked in Louisiana centuries ago and seeded the ground with hitters and hell raisers who became Boot Boy legends. As a matter of fact, 59 percent of LSU’s starters are from Louisiana. And don’t forget Oklahoma went head up with LSU in a recruiting battle for the top inside linebacker in the 2017 class. Jacob Phillips was as close to being a Sooner as Jase McClellan was. Doesn’t mean a damn thing if, like Blake taught us, you can’t close. However, 2017 was also the year the Sooners locked up the top five recruits from the state.
