CSU Bakersfield vs. Cal: The Golden Bears took care of business in their season opener by defeating the Roadrunners, 86-73. Cal moved the ball well, with 12 assists on 24 made field goals. All 10 players who got on the court scored for the Golden Bears. Andrej Stojakovic scored 16 points and six rebounds. Jovan Blackshear Jr. led Cal with 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists. BJ Omot scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds.
The #9 Tar Heels got a scare from the Phoenix but pulled out a 90-76 victory. UNC trailed Elon 71-69 with 6:48 left in the game, but five consecutive points from RJ Davis gave North Carolina the lead back, and they would never trail again. Davis finished the game with 24 points, 17 of which came in the second half, seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Elliot Cadeau had 17 points, eight assists, four rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Seth Trimble added 15 points, three assists, four rebounds, two steals, and a block.
The Demon Deacons defeated Coppin State at home to kick off their season, 64-49. Cameron Hildreth led the Demon Deacons with 15 and 6 rebounds. Omaha Biliew notched 11 points with 4 rebounds and Hunter Sallis chipped in with 10 points, 5 assists and a block for the Demon Deacons.
The Virginia Tech Hokies handled their business at home with an 83-60 win to open the 2024-25 basketball season. Newcomer Toibu Lawal led the Hokies in scoring with 23 points on 6-9 shooting while Mylyjael Poteat added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Jaydon Young chipped in 13 points and 4 assists in the win. Martaz Robinson led all scorers with 30 points in the loss.
The Cardinal got a decisive 85-62 victory over Denver. Oziyah Sellers paced all scorers with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Three other Cardinal scored in double figures led by Maxime Raynaud who notched 16 points with 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Benny Gealer and Jaylen Blakes each added 12 points for Stanford.

Georgia Amoore led the way for the Hokies in Tech’s second-straight outing without ACC Player of the Year Elizabeth Kitley with a 24-point game.
