Lipotidae

Lipotidae is a family of river dolphins containing the functionally extinct baiji and the fossil genus Parapontoporia. The genus Prolipotes, based on a mandible fragment from Neogene coastal deposits in Guangxi, China, has been classified as an extinct relative of the baiji, but is dubious. The putative kentriodontid "Lophocetus" pappus is a possible relative of Lipotidae.

Lipotropic

Lipotropic compounds are those that help catalyse the breakdown of fat during metabolism in the body. Choline is the major lipotrope in mammals and other known lipotropes are important only insofar as they contribute to the synthesis of choline.A lipotropic nutrient promotes or encourages the export of fat from the liver.

Lipotropin

Lipotropin is a hormone produced by the cleavage of pro-opiomelanocortin . The anterior pituitary gland produces the pro-hormone POMC, which is then cleaved again to form adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) and β-lipotropin (β-LPH).

Lipothrixviridae

Lipothrixviridae is a family of viruses in the order Ligamenvirales. Thermophilic archaea in the kingdom Crenarchaeota serve as natural hosts.

Lipotriches
Lipotriches

In biology, Lipotriches is a large genus of sweat bees in the family Halictidae, distributed widely throughout the Eastern Hemisphere though absent from Europe. There are nearly 200 species in 9 subgenera.

Lipotoxicity

Lipotoxicity is a metabolic syndrome that results from the accumulation of lipid intermediates in non-adipose tissue, leading to cellular dysfunction and death. The tissues normally affected include the kidneys, liver, heart and skeletal muscle.

Lipót Schulhof

Lipót Schulhof was a Hungarian-Jewish astronomer, born in the Austrian Empire, who first worked at the Vienna Observatory and later spent most of his time at the Paris Observatory, observing comets and asteroids. He provided a prediction for the 1893 return of comet 15P/Finlay, discovered the main-belt asteroid 147 Protogeneia in 1875, and was awarded the Lalande Prize of the French Academy of Sciences in 1893. Schulhof won the Lalande Prize again in 1920 for his calculation, assisted by Joseph Bossert, of the orbit of the periodic comet 12P/Pons–Brooks, discovered in 1812 by Pons.Schulhof calculated the orbits of many asteroids and comets, taking perturbative interactions into account.
