Ruben Amorim arrives at Carrington today on the first day of his new role as Manchester United head coach. The 39-year-old oversaw his final game in charge of Sporting Lisbon yesterday and it’s a quick turnaround to fly to Manchester for the start of his new role. Reports emerged on Sunday night that Amorim had yet to be granted a visa which could impact his start at United. While true, Manchester World understands the club are frustrated with any suggestion this should be viewed as a setback or his start has been delayed.

NIGERIA'S D'TIGRESS FALLS TO FRANCE
NIGERIA'S D'TIGRESS FALLS TO FRANCE

We didn't play our game, we were not ourselves - D'Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama ...As host France lockdown Nigeria's D'Tigress to laminate their ticket to the quarter-finals women's basketball tournament By Maxwell Kumoye "We didn't play our game. We were not ourselves. What helped us secure the win on Monday we didn't bring today.” That is the verdict of Nigeria head coach, Rena Wakama, after D'Tigress went down to the French in their second Group B encounter on Thursday. She explained that, it was a tough battle and a tough outcome for the team that is eyeing a place in the quarter-finals. “It's tough when you let another team shoot 63 percent inside the paint. It's hard to beat anybody.” Despite the defeat, coach Rena Wakama believe that the girls will fight back on Sunday against Canada. “We need to get back to our ways." Canada are yet to win a game since the basketball tournament started. They lost to France on Monday by the same margin Nigeria lost to the hosts, 75-54. They were also beaten by Australia that crumbled under the weight of Nigeria. It finished 70-65 in favour of the Opal. The win means host France are through to the quarter finals of the women basketball tournament of the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris. They secured their passage to the last eight with a 75-54 lockdown of Nigeria. Nigeria had played with typical courage and on the front foot to almost keep pace with their opponents for much of the first-half. However, the wheels came off for D'Tigress when France suffocated their offense completely and held them to single digits in the third quarter at just 8 points. The depth of France was simply everything in this game - at least in stark contrast to Nigeria. The difference in bench scoring was enormous with the hosts racking up 37 points and their opponents only 9. Nigeria’s 54 points are their lowest in a single game at the Olympics: they have now lost three games by more than 20 points in the competition and two of those happened against France (today and in the 2020 edition (87-62). Canada loses its appeal against a points deduction for drone spying in Olympic women’s soccer

Canada loses its appeal against a points deduction for drone spying in Olympic women’s soccer Canada lost its appeal against the deduction of six competition points following a drone-spying scandal in the Olympic women’s soccer tournament. The Court of Arbitration for Sport on Wednesday said its panel of three judges dismissed Canada’s appeal and confirmed the six-point deduction imposed Saturday by FIFA. Two assistant coaches used drones to spy on New Zealand’s practices last week before their opening game. The urgent verdict was delivered less than eight hours before defending Olympic champion Canada was scheduled to play Colombia at Nice in the final round of games in Group A. Canada was third in the standings with zero points despite winning both its games, against New Zealand and France. Canada can still advance to the quarterfinals with a win Wednesday that would lift the team into first or second place. The top two in each of the three groups advance, plus two third-placed teams.
