ISL 2019-20 Week 5 Top 10 Goals ft. Messi & Roy Krishna
The fifth week of Indian Super League (ISL) was full of enthralling encounters, with plenty of goals coming. The week, though, was highlighted with ATK's 3-0 victory against NorthEast United at the Salt Lake Stadium. Marquee signings Roy Krishna and David Williams once again got onto the score sheet. The in-form duo combined to score three goals with the former scoring a brace to down the Highlanders. The win took his side to the top of the table with 14 points, one more than second-placed Bengaluru. The loss meant Highlanders dropped points for the second consecutive game running after drawing away at Jamshedpur FC. Panagiotis Triadis equalised late in the injury time to earn his side a point and maintain their spot in the top four. Bengaluru on the other hand edged out low-lying Odisha FC at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune. Centre-back Juanan's first-half strike was enough for the Blues to maintain their unbeaten run. Keeping up close with them in the top four, FC Goa too edged bottom-placed Hyderabad FC at the GMC Balayogi Stadium. Talismanic attacker Brandon Fernandes' brilliant delivery from a corner was converted by Manvir Singh, who is deputing for the injured Ferran Corominas. In another fixture, Mumbai City FC and Kerala Blasters played out a 1-1 draw at the Mumbai Football Arena. Raphael Messi Bouli had given the visitors a lead in the 75th minute but his celebrations were cut short. Within the next couple of minutes, the Islanders' top scorer this season, Amine Chermiti, pulled one back for his side to earn them a point. Meanwhile, Chennaiyin FC played their first game under new head coach Owen Coyle and it turned out to be a positive result. The Marina Machans almost pulled off an upset against Jamshedpur. They were en route a 0-1 victory at The Furnace after Nerijus Valskis had given them the lead in the first half an hour. However, in absence of star performer Sergio Castel, Isaac Vanmalsawma stepped up to score for the Men of Steel, late in the game. His strike also means Jamshedpur stay fourth in the table level on points with FC Goa. Jamshedpur FC and Chennaiyin FC had to settle for a point each at the end of a thrilling Hero Indian Super League encounter which ended 1-1 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Monday. The hosts dominated the ball and created several opportunities, but David Williams scored the only goal of the match for ATK in the 48th minute. Chennaiyin FC had a host of chances in the match but failed to make any of them count. David Williams scored the only goal of the match for the visitors early in the second half. Chennaiyin pushed hard in search of an equaliser but ATK defended resolutely to get the win. Chennaiyin FC had the first opportunity of the match just three minutes in when Nerijus Valskis’ powerful header from a Edwin Vanspaul cross flew just above the crossbar. ATK’s first real chance of substance came in the 12th minute after some wonderful interplay led to a well-measured cross towards the edge of the six-yard box.ATK then had a penalty appeal turned down moments later after Roy Krishna went down inside the box. ATK responded almost immediately with a chance of their own. This time, it went to Michael Soosairaj, who exchanged a lovely one-two with Williams before producing an effort on goal The hosts had the last attempt on goal in the opening period after earning a free-kick in a dangerous area. ATK took the lead three minutes after the restart when Javier Hernandez’s shot from a Prabir Das cutback was blocked.The ball, however, made its way to an unmarked Williams at the far post. The Australian forward, of course, made no mistake and smashed the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 for the visitors.The goal was also the 1000th goal in Hero ISL history. Chennaiyin looked to fight back and Vanspaul almost drew them level on the hour-mark when a stinging effort by him from distance . The home side soon began to dominate possession and created several chances. Eli Sabia saw his header from a free-kick go wide in the 71st minute, while substitute Andre Schembri’s effort after the ball broke to him kindly in the box a minute later was off target. Chennaiyin continued to pile on the pressure and almost benefitted when a Rafael Crivellaro cross in the 74th minute.The closing stages of the contest saw Chennaiyin continue to create chances, while also getting several set-piece opportunities. David Williams proved to be the match-winner for ATK with his third goal of the season. Williams also created two chances for his side over the course of the 90 minutes and is now the leading goal scorer this season. He was adjudged the Hero of the Match.
