Since they currently have nothing to prove the others should have opportunities to secure positions in Nos. 4 and 5. All of these are part of getting ready for the ODI World Cup which will be held at home later this year. However the outcome in Bridgetown with all respect to a tremendous West Indies comeback was a complete letdown. Now that the decider is about to take center stage Rohit and Kohli are both anticipated to be called back for the big game on Tuesday (August 1) in order to prevent a humiliating series loss. One should stand up and give the West Indies credit for their cohesive effort in their convincing victory in the second ODI. The first game of the series in which they were dismissed for 114 in just 23 overs seemed to be a case of "Men against Boys even though Rohit and Kohli did not really have much to offer. The Caribbean outfit realized their mistakes and brought Joseph and Carty back and both of them chipped in with valuable contributions to level the series. They are therefore unlikely to alter the lineup that helped them win their first match against India in three years. Contrarily the Men in Blue will need to make difficult decisions. Suryakumar Yadav was given two opportunities but the top-ranked T20I batsman did not do much with the willow. Now it is interesting to see whether he or Samson who only got one chance gets dropped in the decider to make way for Rohit. Among the rest Kohli and Jaydev Unadkat are likely to take the place of Malik and Patel who are expected to be benched after below-par outings. So which team will emerge victorious in the decider? The irony is obvious. Sixty-six days to go for a home World Cup in which they are meant to be favorites. An experimenting India have just lost an ODI rather comprehensively to a side that was recently chastened for being unable to qualify for the World Cup. India are in a situation where even their opening pair is struggling. Shubman Gill who could do no wrong a couple of months ago has had his technique splayed apart against the Dukes ball - first at the WTC Final and then in the West Indies Tests. West Indies Team news: With no injuries being reported between the two ODIs West Indies are unlikely to tinker with a combination that has worked especially given that some of the previously benched players paid off - Carty and Mayers in particular. even if it was after giving India a sniff with four wickets in a 38-run window. And at the center of the display of character were Keacy and Hope - a veteran and one of the grittier players in the team. India Team news: It's hard to predict what India will do given their experiments in the second ODI. However it's unlikely that India will stick to their guns and risk a sinking morale in the dressing room. It's likely that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play. The real question mark lies in the middle-order they might go with. For now they don't have a World Cup to look forward to. They have no distractions and can focus on beating a scatter-brained India just one more time. What to expect: This is the first game that's being played at the Brian Lara Stadium in this tour. It is known to be a true wicket and aids strokeplay a lot more than the two-paced Barbados wicket. With an Indian batting desperately in need of a get-out-of-jail card this pitch might just be the one to give them a boost. With a typical Trinidad wicket in place it has to be advantage India - and seamers of course in that brief new-ball period. The first Test of the series will be played at Windsor Park Roseau Dominica. An interesting factor about Dominica is that the particular venue is hosting an international red-ball game after six long years. Team Preview (India): Led by Rohit Sharma the Men in Blue have been the dominant side in both WTC cycles played so far. But despite being a team to beat India haven't fired when they needed losing the finals to New Zealand (2019-21) and Australia (2021-23). And in pursuit of an ICC title the Men in Blue are regrouping with a mixture of young and experienced squad. It is confirmed by captain Rohit Sharma that Yashasvi Jaiswal will make his Test debut and will open the batting alongside him. Shubman Gill will bat down at number three the place opened after management dropped veteran Cheteshwar Pujara for the tour. Virat Kohli Ajinkya Rahane Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin will complete the middle and lower order. It will be interesting to see who the team management will opt for the glove work. So the fight will be between Srikar Bharat and Mumbai Indians' Ishan Kishan for that most-important spot in the XI. On the pace bowling front it will be led by the fiery Mohammed Siraj. Giving him the company it is expected to be the duo of Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur. But don't be surprised if Mukesh Kumar gets an opportunity to make an India debut. India will hope for a winning start but it won't be easy in the Caribbean Islands. India featured only once in Dominica and it was back in 2011 when the venue made its debut in Test match cricket. Both these sides played out a draw when they met back in 2011. Team Preview (West Indies): West Indies are under their new head coach Daren Sammy who is all set to make his Test coaching debut. The two-time ICC T20 World Cup-winning captain is coming off a horrible experience in the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers as the Men in Maroon failed to make it to the main event later in the year in India. Focusing on the purest format of the game the records aren't pleasing. The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side has been pretty poor in the previous two championship cycles. West Indies would want to start the third WTC cycle well but they are facing the two-time runners-up of WTC India which is not going to be an easy task. West Indies team management has named a 13-man squad for the first Test. A few new faces have been added to the team. As usual Brathwaite is leading the side. The impressive Tagenarine Chanderpaul will accompany his skipper up at the top with the bat. Alick Athanaze had a wonderful domestic season and has been in the pick of the things in the West Indies-A set-up as well as toured South Africa in the previous WTC cycle. Kirk McKenzie has got his maiden call-up to the camp. The rest of the side is pretty similar comprising experienced Jason Holder Jermaine Blackwood Alzarri Joseph Shannon Gabriel Kemar Roach Raymon Reifer and Joshua Da Silva as expected will don the gloves. Rahkeem Cornwall an all-arounder who last played in a Test in November 2021 as well as left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican who was a member of the team that toured Zimbabwe but was absent from the most recent tour of South Africa in February have been called back. Gudakesh Motie was unavailable for the selection as he is undergoing rehabilitation from injury. Kyle Mayers is rested for the first Test after complaining about some niggles in the recently concluded ICC World Cup Qualifiers. Mitchell Marsh is set to make his long-awaited return to the Australian green and gold after recovering from his ankle injury as Australia in February announced their 16-member squad. There has been no word whether captain Pat Cummins will return to lead Australia as he lost his mother earlier this week. On the other hand, it it yet to be determined whether Glenn Maxwell is fit to take the field, as the all-rounder revealed that his recovery from a leg injury has not happened as fast as he would have liked. This will be the first Test series between the two teams after 2019. As we know Bangladesh have evolved their white-ball game to a great extent in recent years. Their growth from rookie to maestro particularly in the ODIs has been phenomenal to say the least. However unfortunately they are yet to find the cheat code to succeed in the purest format often failing to deliver against quality Test teams. Although the Tigers began the year with a bang by upsetting New Zealand in their backyard they suffered setbacks throughout the rest of the year. More importantly they unlike India have failed to showcase their prowess on home soil and would therefore like to execute the same in this series. On the other hand India have blown hot and cold in Tests this year. Although they had a disastrous start losing two consecutive Tests in South Africa they came back remarkably securing a two-nil whitewash over Sri Lanka on home soil. However the biggest challenge for the Indians will be the absence of their key players Rohit Sharma Jasprit Bumrah Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja who have been sidelined due to injury. However the likes of Saurabh Kumar and Abhimanyu Easwaran have vast experience in red-ball cricket and are therefore pretty much capable of making a mark in the series. Considering the strengths of both teams we reckon India will start as the firm favourites to win this match. But can the Tigers force an upset?
