A 22-yard (20-meter) pitch has a wicket at each end, two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at the wicket with the bat (and running between the wickets). In contrast, the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include bowling when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails. The innings ended when ten batters were dismissed, and the teams swapped roles. The game is adjudicated by two umpires, aided by a third umpire and match referee in international matches. Forms of cricket range from Twenty20, with each team batting for a single inning of 20 overs, to Test matches played over five days. Traditionally, cricketers play in an all-white kit but wear club or team colors in limited-overs cricket. In addition to the basic kit, some players wear protective gear to prevent injury caused by the ball. The road to the 2025 IPL season is well underway, as the ten franchises announced their retention lists ahead of the big auction set to occur before the close of the year. In an IPL Retention Special on JioCinema, the teams announced which players will continue to represent their jerseys in the tournament next year — but also some big names who will be going under the hammer in the auction, who teams will keep an eye on. Heinrich Klaasen was the highest earner in the retention lists, with Sunrisers Hyderabad giving him 23 crore to keep his services. Virat Kohli and Nicholas Pooran were right behind, as RCB and LSG give them INR 21 cr each. On the other hands, some big-name players will be seeking new homes in the auction. Amongst these are Delhi franchise hero Rishabh Pant who was confirmed as released in a shock move, as well as KL Rahul, KKR title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer, and a premium Indian fast bowler in the form of Arshdeep Singh as well. They are joined by some big-name overseas players as well, headed by Jos Buttler and Glenn Maxwell. Punjab Kings retained the fewest players, and Ricky Ponting will have a warchest of 110.5 cr in the auction, by far the most in this year’s auction. RCB will also have 83 crore on hand with only three retentions, while DC will have 73 cr under their new leadership as well. KKR and RR will both head into the auction with the maximum of six players already in their squads, but the Jaipur team will have only 41 cr to work with at the auction, with no RTM possibilities either.
