What happens to players who remain unsold in the IPL auction? In the IPL 2025 auction, teams spent nearly ₹640 crore. Over two days, a total of 182 players were bought. Yet, several big players went unsold as no one placed a bid for them. These unsold players included notable names like David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Prithvi Shaw. However, this doesn’t mean they have no chance to play in IPL 2025. If a player gets injured during the IPL, teams can bring in a replacement. But here’s the twist: A replacement can only be a player who had registered for the IPL auction but remained unsold. Additionally, the replacement player’s base price must be lower than the injured player’s price. For example, if a player who was sold for more than ₹2 crore gets injured, someone like David Warner could replace them because his base price in the auction was ₹2 crore.
