Iona Coach Rick Pitino Post 88-76 Win over Manhattan Gaels Improve to 13-3.
"I didn't come to Iona for Mediocrity I came for Greatness". Thats Head Basketball Coach Rick Pitino after Gaels win 88-76 over rival Manhattan College. Gaels went off to 11-2 run on points driving the lane, Jasper closed to 26-24 later in first half, but Iona answered with an 18-3 run taking a 44-27 lead late in half. Iona forward Nelly Jr Joseph played just 11 mins scoring 13 pts in game due to foul trouble. Fresh Trey James played 9 minutes scoring 4 pts and Osborne Sherma played 16 mins and had 7 pts so position had 24 pts. Grad student Tyson Jolly led with 16 pts on 7-10 shooting plus 6 assists. Dylan Van Eyck was 3-3 with 2 threes mostly splitting the 3 small forward role with Quinn Slazinki who made 2 threes for 6 points. Coach Pitino saw improvement in point guard grad student Elijah Joiner who was 4-5 shooting for 11 pts. Gaels outshot Manhattan 61% to 38% although Coach Pitino was critical of his teams foul shooting, just 21-38 55% commenting that "We won't make NCAA Tournament with that type of foul shooting. Are the Edmonton Oilers FUBAR?
Another Thursday has landed on our calendars and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get you through what’s left of your week. Today, the boys were talking about Tuesday's loss to the Maple Leafs, why it's wrong to throw a jersey on the ice, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the podcast got started with a look at Tuesday's loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs and how it was a demoralizing loss for Oilers fans, especially after the team started reasonably well but just couldn't put the puck in the back of the net. From Leafs fans taking over the building to the Oilers being completely snakebitten to a jersey being tossed on the ice, it was a rough night all around and a game that encompasses all of the things that are going wrong right now. From there, the podcast fell off the rails a little bit as the guys got into a passionate discussion about how MSG used to be the enemy even though the war has seemingly subsided here in 2021. From there, the MSG talk led into a chat about jean-skiing after Tourism Jasper joined the podcast as a brand new sponsor to pump up Jasper in January. Getting back to the Oilers, the guys looked at tonight's matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets and how the team is nearing must-win territory after losing six straight games. No, that doesn't mean they'll be eliminated from the playoffs if they lose, but they do need to get back in the win column to stop the bleeding and right the ship a little bit.
