Pakistan Vs India 2006 | The Visitors romped home with 17.3 overs to spare.
Pakistan Vs India 2006 | The Visitors romped home with 17.3 overs to spare.

An inspired India decimated Pakistan with an emphatic five-wicket victory to clinch the one-day series by taking an invincible 3-1 lead. After bundling out the hosts for a paltry 161 in 41.5 overs, the Indians romped home with 17.3 overs to spare to record their second consecutive one-day series triumph on Pakistani soil since the 2004 tour. It was an awesome all-round display by the visitors who relied on newcomer Rudra Pratap Singh (4-40) and Irfan Pathan (3-26) before captain Rahul Dravid (59) and the in-form Yuvraj Singh (37) made useful contributions to steer the team to a facile victory, leaving a capacity crowd at the Multan Cricket Stadium shell-shocked. Young guns Suresh Raina (35 not out) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2 not out) provided the finishing touches to a remarkable triumph built around exemplary team work. The Indian dressing room erupted in joy as Raina pulled part-timer Imran Farhat to the boundary to fetch India the winning runs in what turned out to be a lop-sided contest. The visitors could not have chosen a better venue to deliver the knockout punch, coming as it did in the hometown of captain Inzamam-ul Haq, who top scored for the hosts with a defiant 49. Dravid elected to field after winning the toss and his bowlers responded brilliantly to reduce the formidable Pakistan batting line-up to 29 for four by the 13th over. The home team never really recovered from the early jolts. Barring Inzamam, none of the Pakistani batsman could hang around for long as the Indian pacers managed to obtain some assistance from the track in the early stages of the contest. It was a pathetic display by the Pakistan batsmen who had no answers to the energetic Uttar Pradesh paceman R.P. Singh and Pathan, who wrecked the hosts with fiery spells. However, a good start also eluded the Indians with openers Sachin Tendulkar (0) and Gautam Gambhir (21) perishing early with only 29 runs on the board, comeback man Mohammad Sami (3-42) doing the damage. Dravid then guided the tourists with a fine innings of 59 containing nine fours before falling leg before to a swinging full toss from Sami. Yuvraj (37 in 57 balls) paved the way for the victory with a third-wicket partnership of 85 in 106 balls. The Punjab batsman struck six fours but his dismissal as well as that of Mohammad Kaif (0) in a span of eight balls provided Pakistan renewed hopes of a dramatic turnaround. Dravid also fell after facing 72 balls when India needed 29 more runs to win. Raina, getting his first chance to bat in the series, played in an impressive fashion and hit six fours in his 34-ball knock to guide the team to victory. In the morning, another UP youngster — R.P. Singh — took 4 for 40 after coming first-change, including two wickets off successive balls, to steal the show. The 20-year-old paceman was even on a hat-trick in his first six-over spell after sending back in-form batsman Shoaib Malik and vice-captain Younis Khan off successive balls in his very first over. The Rae Bareilly youngster failed to complete the feat but came back in the second spell to take two more wickets while Pathan also bowled with a lot of verve. Pakistan had little to show for in their do-or-die encounter, barring Inzamam’s determined knock of 49 in 62 balls with seven fours, as the batsmen failed to handle the pressure of a huge home crowd.

The Qalandars had triumphed over Sultans by 42 runs to end their title drought. Ahead of the tournament, Prime Minister Imran Khan had met the winning team’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rana Aatif, skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi, upcoming talent Mohammad Zahid, and coach Aqib Javed. The meeting had come a few days after Lahore had announced that Shaheen would lead their side. As soon as the announcement was made, many had questioned whether the Qalandars had made the right call by appointing Shaheen as their captain. However, PM Imran Khan, in his meeting with the Qalandars leadership, had lauded the team for giving Shaheen the key responsibility and predicted that the 21-year-old may guide his team to victory in the mega tournament. The PM had said that choosing a young team captain was a good decision for the franchise. "Youth always change results, and the Lahore Qalandars could win the PSL trophy this time [due to this decision]," the prime minister was quoted as saying. The Lahore skipper apart from fulfilling PM Imran's prediction has also become the youngest captain to lead a franchise to lift a major T20 tournament trophy, leaving behind Steve Smith, who led Sydney Sixers to a Big Bash League (BBL) title in 2012 when he was 22 years old. ___________________________________________ Lahore Qalandars vs Multan Sultans: Shaheen Shah Afridi creates PSL history LAHORE: Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was impressive throughout the Pakistan Super League (PSL), on Sunday achieved a tournament record as he led Lahore Qalandars to their maiden victory. Jashan e Cricket | PSL 7 | David Wiese's last-over heroics against Islamabad United take Lahore Qalandars to PSL 7 final | Lahore Qalandars VS Islamabad United David Wiese | Shaheen Shah Afridi | Shadab Khan | Azam Khan | Nabeel | Shoaib Akhtar | Inzamam Ul Haq | Sikander Bakht | | Ali Meer | Shahzad Iqbal | 25th February 2022 LAHORE: Islamabad United have defeated Peshawar Zalmi by five wickets in the eliminator 1 of the Pakistan Super League's (PSL) seventh edition to keep their hopes of reaching the finals alive. LAHORE: David Wiese's last-over heroics at the Gaddafi Stadium against Islamabad United took Lahore Qalandars to a six-run victory and to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final. The do-or-die match between the two sides was a staggering see-saw battle as both were unwilling to give up till the very end, as fans witnessed one of the most scintillating contests in the history of PSL. While chasing the target, Pual Sterling, who returned to the franchise after a national duty, smacked Shaheen Shah Afridi for 14 runs in the first over. But Shaheen roared back brilliantly in the third over as he dismissed him as well as Will Jacks with Haris Rauf taking catches on both occasions. Shadab Khan was also dismissed for 14, and Liam Dawson was also sent packing for 12 runs. At this point, Lahore was in the driver's seat having put United under the pump. But after that, Azam Khan and Alex Hales forged a brilliant 79-run partnership which brought United back into the game. They both played sensibly as they were hitting boundaries as well as rotating the strike and it looked like the game was in United's pocket. But an unbelievable fielding effort brought Lahore back into the game when Hales cut the ball and tried to take a single and Rauf's brilliant direct hit sent Azam back for 40 runs off 28 balls with two sixes and three fours. Hales was also removed just after Azam when Kamran Ghulam took a great jumping catch of Rauf's bowling who was right on the money in today's game. The topsy-turvy match also took another turn when Asif Ali got the reprieve as Shaheen dismissed him but overstepped. Asif then hit a six to bring the game closer and was dismissed by Rauf for 25 runs when United were eight runs behind. In the last over, eight runs were required with Wasim on strike, and David Wiese held his nerves. Wasim was run out and Waqas was caught at the boundary as Wiese picked the last wicket to take Lahore to the final as the heart-wrenching clash came to an end. In terms of bowling for Lahore, Rauf was brilliant with figures of 2-31 in four overs, Shaheen took 2-32 in four overs, while Zaman also took two and Wiese one. Earlier, David Wiese's three sixes and one four in the last over have helped Lahore Qalandars post a fighting 168-run total in the do-or-die eliminator two. Lahore after deciding to bat first, got off to the bad start as the in-form Fakhar Zaman was removed by Liam Dawson who bowled a brilliant new-ball spell. After that, Abdullah with Kamran Ghulam forged a crucial 73-run stand for the third wicket to steer the inning against a good bowling attack of United. Ghulam rotated the strike to keep the scoreboard ticking, while Abdullah took the attack against the opponent bowlers as he notched three sixes and four fours in a 28 ball knock. After Abdullah's dismissal by Waqas Masqsood, United got the dominant hand over Lahore as they made it difficult for their battles to carve out quick runs. They also displayed brilliant fielding as Harry Brook was run-out by a brilliant throw from Muhammad Wasim, and Samit Patel was caught by Muhammad Huraira who took a brilliant running catch. It was in the last over when Wiese went rampant against Waqas as he shamed three sixes and one four to take Lahore to a fighting total against a power-packed United batting line-up In terms of bowling, Dawson was brilliant with figures of 2-24 in four overs, Wasim also picked two, while Shadab and Waqas also picked one.
