Awful pace, a car that was apparently âvery very difficult to driveâ and a P14 and P15 for the two drivers. And that would have been P18 and 19 if the three Red Bull engines had held together. But theyâve had one hell of a resurgence, with Lando getting a podium in Imola and some strong results in Australia. So what have they changed for the Emilia Romagna GP? And where are they going from here? Well, this story with the McLaren starts in Bahrain - where we were all wondering if the McLarens were going to be the backmarkers for this year. They only beat Latifi and Hulk (in a car he had never driven before) - and yes the Red Bulls and Gasly who all DNFâd. If you look at Qualifying, their delta to the fastest cars in Qualifying was about a second and a half. Then, looking at race pace - the delta was a little bigger. Now, this is harder to tell in the race, with traffic, degrading tyres and the list goes on. But you can see that the McLaren is consistently a way off the pace. Lando said - âWe donât really have a good enough car to do betterâ and explained that he had to push really hard just to keep up at the beginning, only then to deg the tyres and fall off the pack altogether. â€Follow Driver61 on: †Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta â€TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok †Follow Scott on: †Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell †Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta #Formula1 #McLaren #Driver61
Despite the supposed pace woes of the 2022 Mercedes car, George Russell hasnât finished lower than 5th this year while Lewis Hamilton has already finished 10th or lower twice. After the race in Imola, Mercedes took the blame for Hamiltonâs 13th place finish but former Mercedes driver and Hamiltonâs teammate Nico Rosberg has criticized Mercedes for doing so while speaking to Sky Sports  Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxTwU1hf8haUkqqnM3opzho5saZU4Qzr-E 0:00 - Rosberg Criticizes Mercedes For Not Telling âThe Truthâ 2:15 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Rosberg Criticizes Mercedes For Not Telling âThe Truthâ  Rosberg started off by suggesting how this year one of Hamiltonâs most impressive streaks could come to an end  âIt's definitely a very, very tough situation for Lewis. He's won a race in every single year of his career and it looks like this might be the year where he can't win any moreâ  He then suggested that this is creating tension in the team  âYou can see how the tension is rising. We saw how Toto, in my view, was angry at Lewis [after qualifying], because maybe Lewis criticised the team a little bit too harshly over the teamâs internal radio about something they didâ  "The tension's rising, and that's natural, and Lewis will obviously start to show those emotions a little bit. Nevertheless, with the experience he has, I think he will eventually manage to keep those under controlâ  He was then critical of Mercedes taking the blame for Hamiltonâs poor result despite teammate George Russell getting a good result  âHere, Toto was playing the mental game which is very smart on his behalf again. Taking the blame themselves and really trying to support Lewis mentally. Lifting him up and saying that it wasn't Lewis' doing, it's on usâ  "It's very smart because it's not quite the truth and let's not forget that Russell is in P4 with that same car, so Lewis definitely had a big role to play in that poor result this weekendâ  âRussell got P4 out of it with a brilliant weekend, so there was more in that car. Really, Toto is [just] trying to lift [Hamilton] upâ  He signed off by predicting that the tension will only increase from here on  âLet's not forget also, Lewis hates ending up behind his team-mate. Even if you're down the order, he really, really passionately hates coming in behind his team-mate, that also happened this weekend, so that's also going to put the tension up a lotâ  âEspecially in the engineering room where Lewis is going to be pushing harder and harder, so it will be interesting to see how it unfoldsâ   Fast Feed  Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko feels that as Lewis Hamilton âwas lapped by [them], maybe he's thinking he should've stopped last yearâ [Sky Sports]  He also suggested that when they âput real pressure on [Ferrari], they are making mistakesâ  Defending world champion Max Verstappen thinks that Charles Leclercâs âmistake, yeah, it's easily done. Of course, he was pushing hard to try and fight Checoâ [FIA]  âIt is painful but I think he knows that himself, you know, he doesn't need to hear that from anyone [else]â  âIt's still such a long championship. You can still gain a lot of points. But yeah, it's not great [for Charles]. But you can't change it now. I mean, he doesn't do it on purposeâ  Ferrariâs Carlos Sainz accepts that he âdidn't get the best of starts. We need to analyse what happened at the startâ [Sky Sports]  âWe still managed to get cleanly to turn two and for some reason Daniel went into the kerbâ  âAn unlucky situation to get stuck in the gravel, nothing I could've done differentlyâ  Red Bullâs Sergio Perez pointed out that they âhave been so unlucky the start of the season has been so difficultâ  âI am very pleased to see everyone smiling in the team. [Itâs] is a great day for the team and we need to keep workingâ   Should Mercedes take the blame for Lewis Hamiltonâs poor result in Imola?

Sainz out of the race on lap one and Leclerc in the barrier and recovering to only 6th position. So, what exactly happened to both drivers and what does it mean in the title fight? First up Sainz. He had his off in qualifying, ending up in the wall in Rivazza in Q2. He tried to carry a bit too much speed into the corner, having turned in on the kerb, which was likely a little damp, and the rear of his car didnât want to stick. This was another mistake by Sainz, which cannot have done his confidence much good. Being able to predict what a car will do is so important to a driver, and when it doesnât grip when you expect it to, it makes you drive a little bit below the limit, and therefore slower. Now, Iâm not 100% on whether this spin was due to the kerb being damp or Carlos not predicting the balance of the Ferrari properly - either way the result was the same. Sainz then went on to have a good drive in the sprint, getting back up to 4th. However, his start for the Sunday race wasnât great, getting overtaken by Norris and then being in a position where he was wheel to wheel with Ricciardo. Riccardo was ahead going down to turn one, but Sainz was much more confident on the brakes - which you can often be when youâre on the outside (this is where a little lockup or a bit too much speed wonât cause too much of an issue, like it might if youâre on the inside of another car). â€Follow Driver61 on: †Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta â€TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok †Follow Scott on: †Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell †Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta #Formula1 #ImolaGP #Driver61
