Leicester verdict - Everton suffer 2-1 defeat as pressure mounts on Marco Silva

Reaction - https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport... Everton travelled to Leicester City on Sunday in what was a crucial match for Marco Silva's future as manager. The Blues boss changed things up, playing three centre-backs with Lucas Digne and Djibril Sidibe as wing-backs. It almost worked. Everton took the lead through Richarlison and had plenty of chances, especially on the counter attack and from crosses into the box. But Leicester levelled through Jamie Vardy before VAR deemed Kelechi Iheanacho to be onside for a late, late winner. Look back on how things unfolded with updates and analysis from Phil Kirkbride and Adam Jones at the match. Everton now take on Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night, with Silva facing a dilemma on whether to stick or twist with his altered formation after defeat at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City 2 - 1 Everton "It never rains it pours"

Injury time heartbreak denies Blues a point Having taken a first half lead with a superb move and finish from Richarlison, Everton were desperately unlucky not to take a point as Vardy equalised and Iheanacho struck a winner deep into added-on time.

how to live healthy and longevity : https://goo.gl/3L1CLn how to learn super speed? https://goo.gl/cPZGKt FIFA's Secret 19: https://goo.gl/FfPqWF Premier League  Fulham’s progress under Claudio Ranieri is being measured in small steps. The Italian and his players departed this tight contest vaguely dissatisfied to have taken only a point having led Leicester City through much of the second half, their mood coloured by the sight of Denis Odoi wastefully scooping a shot over the crossbar in stoppage time. Yet in the cold light of day, the improvements seen here should suggest a brighter future awaits.  The weight of the division still bears down on the Londoners but they are not the soft touch they were a few weeks ago. Three games into Ranieri’s tenure and some of the naivety has been drummed out of them. There were long periods while confronting a team with top-half credentials when Fulham even felt in control, their lead established against the run of play but their shape well-enforced thereafter and a threat carried on the counterattack. The frustration, of course, was that all it took was one moment of carelessness with the end almost in sight to undo a lot of their hard work. Lingard earns point for Manchester United after De Gea hands Arsenal lead Read more  Leicester conjured their equaliser when the substitutes Demarai Gray and Shinji Okazaki combined slickly down the visitors’ right flank and the latter, allowed space by a disoriented Alfie Mawson, pulled the ball back to the penalty spot. There loitered James Maddison, the classiest attacking talent on the pitch, to dispatch a crisp first-time finish into the bottom corner. The hosts’ wait for a first clean sheet of the season had been extended. “At this moment, when we make mistakes, the big opponents score,” said Ranieri. “But we continue to progress. Slowly, slowly.”  This had been an emotional experience for the Italian against the team with whom he claimed the only top-flight title of his managerial career to date. He had offered his tribute to the late Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha prior to kick-off, acknowledged the chants of the away support and saw four key members of his Premier League winning side start in Leicester’s ranks. Yet, other than a quick “hello” to familiar faces, he concentrated purely on Fulham’s latest opportunity and gained encouragement from much that he witnessed.  Fulham could point to the substitute Tom Cairney fizzing a shot just wide of the post while their lead still stood or that late miss by Odoi. Leicester threatened repeatedly in the first half and Kelechi Iheanacho should have scored the game’s opening goal early on. But at the other end Kasper Schmeichel was forced into an astonishing fingertip save to deny Callum Chambers – a makeshift defensive midfielder who seems destined to bring the best out of opposing goalkeepers having tested Chelsea consistently on Sunday – as he belted a volley from Odoi’s nod back towards the far corner. Croatia ( 2 - 0 ) Nigeria World Cup 2018 Group D

Croatia ( 2 - 0 ) Nigeria World Cup 2018 Group D Croatia 2-0 Nigeria: Luka Modric penalty seals win in World Cup Group D opener Oghenekaro Etebo own goal and Luka Modric penalty settle flat affair in Russia Croatia sit top of World Cup Group D after a comfortable 2-0 win over Nigeria in Kaliningrad on Saturday evening. Zlatko Dalic's side took the lead in fortunate circumstances when Mario Mandzukic's 32nd-minute header from a Luka Modric corner was deflected into his own net by the unfortunate Oghenekaro Etebo. Modric secured the win from the penalty spot 19 minutes from time after William Troost-Ekong needlessly fouled Mandzukic at a corner. The result leaves Croatia in a strong position after the opening fixtures following Argentina's 1-1 draw with Iceland earlier on Saturday. Player ratings Croatia: Subasic (7), Vrsaljko (7), Strinic (7), Lovren (7), Vida (6), Perisic (7), Rakitic (7), Kramaric (7), Modric (8), Rebic (7), Mandzukic (6) Subs: Brozovic (6), Kovacic (n/a), Pjaca (n/a) Nigeria: Uzoho (6), Idowu (6), Troost-Ekong (4), Balogun (6), Shehu (7), Ndidi (6), Etebo (5), Mikel (6), Moses (5), Iwobi (6), Ighalo (5) Subs: Musa (6), Iheanacho (6), Nwankwo (n/a) Man of the match: Luka Modric (Croatia) Ivan Perisic's 14th-minute sighter from the edge of the area fizzed over the bar and set the tone for a solid first-half display from Croatia which saw them dominate possession without creating chances - with their 32nd-minute lead arriving in fortuitous circumstances. Modric's left-wing corner was flicked on by Ante Rebic and headed on by Mandzukic. The ball looked to be heading wide, but cannoned off the back of the leg of Stoke City's new £6m signing Etebo and into the net. The own goal came despite there being no shots on target from either side in the first half, though the impressive Andrej Kramaric headed narrowly over the bar from an Ivan Rakitic ball shortly before half-time. Team news Ivan Strinic was given the nod at left-back for a Croatia side which featured star players Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic. Leicester midfielder Wilfried Ndidi was fit for Nigeria but club team-mate Kelechi Iheanacho was only a substitute as Odion Ighalo started up front. Croatia should have doubled their lead when Rakitic played a sublime first-time pass to Perisic on the left and he found an unmarked Rebic in the six-yard box, but the forward volleyed high and wide when he looked certain to score. However, the second goal came on 71 minutes when Ekong put both arms around Mandzukic from a Modric corner and the referee correctly pointed to the spot. Modric struck low to the right of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who dived the wrong way, to settle a disappointing match and yet give Croatia the perfect start to their World Cup campaign. What's next? Croatia's next test is against Argentina in Nizhny Novgorod on Thursday evening (7pm, UK time), while Nigeria's second Group D clash is on Friday afternoon against Iceland in Volgograd at 4pm (UK time)
