INDEPENDENCE, MO (March 6) - Wichita scored three times in the third period to climb back against Kansas City, 5-3, on Sunday at Cable Dahmer Arena. Cam Clarke led the way with three points while Jay Dickman added a goal and an assist. Jake Theut claimed the win, stopping 24 shots. The Thunder hopped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Stefan Fournier put home a rebound on the power play at 2:35 to make it 1-0. At 14:03, Peter Crinella made it 2-0 with his 22nd of the season. He came around the net and batted home a backhand near the right post. In the second, Kansas City scored three in just over a three-minute span to take a 3-2 lead. John Schiavo tallied his first of two at 9:37. He muscled off a defenseman near the net and lifted a shot over Theut, who tried to poke it away from the crease. At 12:04, Darik Angeli tapped home a beautiful pass from Ben Johnson to tie it at two. Schiavo made it 3-2 at 12:53 as he put home a rebound for his sixth of the year. Alex Peters got the rally started at 7:32 of the third. He came in off the rush, caught a pass from Brayden Watts and beat Matt Greenfield over the shoulder on the power play to tie it at three. At 12:27, Schmitz gave the Thunder their second lead of the night as he put home a pass from Jay Dickman for his sixth of the year. With the goalie lifted, Wichita held the Mavericks at bay and Dickman tacked on an empty-netter with five seconds left to make it 5-3. Wichita went 2-for-4 on the power play and killed off all six Kansas City chances. Fournier has points in four-straight and points in eight of his last nine. Crinella has goals in back-to-back games and points in four-straight. Stinil added an assist, giving him helpers in four-straight and points in his last five.

INDEPENDENCE, MO (June 5) – Kansas City scored four unanswered goals in the second period and skated away with a 5-2 win over Wichita on Saturday night at Cable Dahmer Arena. Gordie Green and Matteo Gennaro scored for the Thunder with assists going to Spencer Dorowicz, Dean Stewart and Garrett Schmitz. Kansas City got the scoring started early in the first as Brodie Reid found the net at 2:32. Giorgio Estephan made a terrific pass through the slot to Reid and he buried a one-timer past Evan Weninger. At 11:15, Green tied the game at one with his eighth of the year. He found a rebound off a shot from Dorowicz at the left post and put home a backhand. Gennaro gave Wichita its first lead at 15:43 as Schmitz found him in front of the net for his 26th of the year. Late in the frame, the game turned when Schmitz and Ryan White got into a post-whistle altercation near the front of the Kansas City net. White and Schmitz were both assessed a two-minute minor and a 10-minute misconduct. Kansas City took advantage in the second as Lane Scheidl scored at 1:32 to tie the game at two. Estephan found the net for the eventual game-winner at 12:40 to make it a 3-2 game. Less than a minute later, Reid scored his second of the game and 25th of the year to make it 4-2. Marcus Crawford tacked on one more on the power play at 16:33 to make it 5-2. The Mavericks outshot the Thunder 23-2 in the period and took a three-goal lead into the final frame. Matt Greenfield held the fort down the stretch, stopping 14 shots in the third and made 32 saves in the game. Wichita went 0-for-5 on the man advantage while Kansas City was 1-for-6. White led all players with 16 penalty minutes. Gennaro has goals in two of his last three games and points in three of his last four.
WICHITA, Kan. (May 11) – Wichita raced out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back in a 5-2 win on Tuesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Evan Buitenhuis was outstanding, stopping 38 shots and earned his 13th win of the season. Five different players found the net and 11 players registered points. Dorowicz put the Thunder on the board at 2:23 of the first period. He caught a pass from Brayden Watts through the middle of the Mavericks zone and beat Andrew Shortridge to make it 1-0. At 4:29, Crinella made it 2-0 with his 13th of the season. He fought through a check on the end wall, skated across the blue paint and stuffed it past Shortridge. Ryan White returned to the lineup after missing the last few games and made his presence felt in the second. He picked off a pass on the left wall, walked to the middle and rifled a shot past Shortridge. Wichita made it 4-0 at 11:11 when Stephen Johnson raced after a loose puck that came off the end wall and he put it past Shortridge, who was caught out of the net. Matt Greenfield entered the game and Shortridge's night was finished. Kansas City tried to make things interesting as Lane Scheidl scored a pair of goals in the third. His first came at 5:49 on the power play. He got to a rebound and broke up the shutout bid from Buitenhuis to make it 4-1. Scheidl scored his 18th of the year at 16:44 as he skated through the neutral zone, came down on his off-wing and beat Buitenhuis to make it 4-2. The Mavericks pulled Greenfield with 2:40 left in regulation. Jay Dickman stole a loose puck from Matt Petgrave, shot it from the top of his own zone into an empty net and made it 5-2. Wichita sweeps the three-game mini-series with Buitenhuis getting all three wins over Kansas City. The Thunder move into first place with a .672 winning percentage. Dorowicz finished with a goal and an assist. Brayden Watts had two helpers. Riley McCourt picked up an assist, which is his first point in a Thunder uniform.
INDEPENDENCE, MO (April 24) - Brodie Reid scored at 5:36 of overtime to help Kansas City get past Wichita on Saturday night at Cable Dahmer Arena. Charlie Combs and Dean Stewart had goals for the Thunder in regulation while Hayden Lavigne suffered the overtime loss, stopping 29 shots. Kansas City scored early for the second game in a row as Bryan Lemos found the net at 1:55 to make it 1-0. Early in the second, Charlie Combs tied the game as he caught a pass in the high slot from Anthony Beauregard and beat Matt Greenfield. Stewart connected on a power play at 11:23 to make it 2-1 for the Thunder with assists to Beau Starrett and Jay Dickman. Lemos tied the game with his second of the contest at 19:17. He fired a one-timer at the tail-end of a power play and beat Lavigne from the left circle. Kansas City outshot the Thunder 13-10 in the final period, but neither team could find the net. For the second game in a row, overtime was needed. In the extra period, Reid took a loose puck along the end wall. He wrapped a backhand on the left side of the net that got through Lavigne for his 21st of the season and the game-winner. Wichita's streak of not allowing a power play goal was snapped at eight games. The Thunder have power play goals in five of the last six contests. Wichita also suffered its first blemish of the year at Cable Dahmer Arena. The Thunder are 7-0-1-0 on the road in the season-series against the Mavericks. Combs added his third of the season and Stewart potted his sixth. Dickman has assists in four-straight. Beauregard has points in three-straight and five of his last six games.

He makes it hard for any team to trap him. He is extremely quick and has an incredible change of pace. He made a living getting into the paint, whether breaking his defender down off the bounce or attacking off ball screens. He made several drop off passes to his teammates for finishes. He also knocked down multiple midrange pull-up jumpers. ➡️ 2021 BJ Keith is an explosive, strong guard who is in the conversation as one of the best on-ball defenders in the state. He has the quickness and strength to matchup with anyone. Offensively, he does a great job of getting downhill and finishing at the rim. He was huge in the fourth quarter. The three-pointer he knocked down to take the lead was gutsy and proved to be the shot of the game. ➡️ 2021 Saiquone Harris led the way in scoring with 14 points and snagged 7 rebounds. The 6’7 wing is versatile and able to score in a variety of ways. He can make shots from the perimeter. He can put the ball on the bounce and finish above the rim. He can create off the bounce and get to the midrange. Last night however, he came up huge at the foul line knocking down 10 of 12. Defensively, he is very versatile and does a great job of rotating for blocks and rebounding the ball. ➡️ 2022 Po’Boigh King has the ability to really fill it up. He can get hot at any moment. He is one of the elite shooters in the state. Not only can he shoot the ball, he has the ability to create off the bounce and make plays going to the rim. He attacks the basket strong and finishes through contact. He also is able to drive it and make plays for others. ➡️ 2022 Jai Smith is one of the most sought after forwards in the country. His motor is what separates him. He finishes extremely well around the basket. He tries to rip the rim off every time he goes up. Defensively, he is extremely versatile. He has the ability to guard along the perimeter and to block shots at the basket. He has great anticipation when rotating for blocks or jumping the passing lane for steals. ➡️ 2021 Kanayo Nwosu came up big for the Holy Rams. He finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds. He is super athletic and his intensity and motor are extremely valuable. He is so active and versatile on the defensive end. He forces tough passes from opponents with his length on the perimeter. He contests shots at the rim. He rebounds at a high level. Offensively, he finishes well above the rim. He also stepped out and knocked down two three-pointers in the first half.
