That said they are up against one of the most successful chasing sides in Gujarat. On the other hand Gujarat would have liked to keep Chennai under 160 but they do have the resources to get over the line here. Do we have another Shubman Gill special on the cards? Gujarat being one of the most successful bowling sides in the Powerplay it was Mohammad Shami who opened the attack for them and bowled a quiet first over. Playing in his first game of the season Darshan Nalkande dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad in his very first over only for it to be a no ball. Gujarat seemed to have lost their way after this no ball incident and leaked a lot of runs during the Powerplay. They pulled things back nicely during the middle overs and seemed to have control of the proceedings. However they were unable to finish well conceding 35 runs in the last three overs. Shami was he pick of the bowlers for Gujarat with figures of 2 for 28 from his four overs. Mohammad Shami finishes off with a wicket but it is Chennai who have racked up a competitive total on the board! After Chennai were put into bat by Hardik Pandya as they have done all season Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway got Chennai off to a steady start. Conway was struggling for rhythm but Gaikwad was fluent as usual and stroked his fourth fifty of the season. After his dismissal the boundaries dried up for Chennai but Rahane provided some much-needed impetus with his cameo. Towards the end cameos by Rayudu Jadeja and Moeen Ali helped Chennai cross the 170-run mark. Up and over! Pitched up on the stumps Saha with a short backlift just thumps it over a leaping Deepak Chahar at mid on for the first boundary of the chase. All the way! Chahar drags it down the leg side Shubman Gill picks it up and flicks it over the backward square leg fence for a maximum. Fraction short and put away! This is bowled over the off stump Saha rocks back and pulls it away crisply in front of mid-wicket for a boundary. Picks the man out perfectly! Another short ball from Chahar over middle and begging to be hit. Saha pulls it away but doesn't get any elevation. the ball travels toward deep square leg where Pathirana doesn't have to move an inch and takes a simple catch. Chahar does get the breakthrough after conceding a couple of boundaries. Hardik Pandya is off the mark in fine fashion! Good length around off Pandya stays put and crunches it through covers for a boundary. Quality shot! A touch fuller around middle and over 142 clicks. Gill just leans in a bit and flicks it brilliantly in front of mid-wicket for a boundary. Gill is on the front foot here taking toll on Chahar. Bowls a length ball outside off. Gill gets on the front foot and swings hard with a pick up pull. Plays it over the mid-wicket fielder and gets another four. GT skipper bites the dust! Excellent captaincy from MS Dhoni to add an extra fielder in the off-side prior to this ball. Quicker one on a length outside off. Pandya stays on the back foot and throws his hands at it trying to pierce the cut through the in-field. Gets an outside edge which flies towards Jadeja at backward point. One of the best fielders in the word sorry the best fielder in the world Jaddu doesn't make any mistakes and won't do mistakes for the most part of the game. Around the wicket. Slightly slower and on a length turning away a bit outside off. Gill rocks back and cuts it hard finding the gap behind square on the off-side. It reaches the boundary in a flash. They will want their top-order batters to set a nice platform and put them in a position from where their finishers can take over. Punjab still need to believe that they are in this game and they have a fighting total on the board. They will need to come out with positive intent and look for wickets early to set the tone for their game. Will they be able to pull off a remarkable defense? Or will this be a walk in the park for the reigning champions? Punjab got off to the worst possible start losing Prabhsimran Singh on the second delivery of the inning off the bowling of Mohammad Shami and Joshua Little dismissed Punjab's inform skipper Shikhar Dhawan inside the Powerplay. Matthew Short played a good counter-attacking cameo scoring 36 runs in 24 balls but was dismissed by a magical delivery from the magician Rashid Khan. Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Jitesh Sharma looked to rebuild the innings but lowered the scoring rate in the process and could not convert their starts. A score of 153 should be under-par on a good batting surface and Gujarat will be silently confident of overcoming this target. This has been an outstanding bowling performance by the reigning champions as all the bowlers contributed with wickets. Mohit Sharma was by far the pick of the bowlers on his debut taking 2 wickets for 18 runs in his four overs while the other four chipped in with one each. They were good in the field as well as they kept it really tight and never allowed the opposition to get away with the scoring rate. What a sublime way to get off the mark! Fuller and outside off shaping away this time Shubman Gill plants his front foot forward and just caresses it in between mid off and extra cover for a boundary. That is a shot and a half! A touch fuller and around off stumps at 145.4 clicks Wriddhiman Saha punches it on the up and the ball speeds through wide mid off for a boundary. In this IPL Arshdeep Singh has leaked runs at an economy of 10.9 when he has bowled full in the powerplay (26.2%). However as he pulls his length back the economy is better. Excellent timing and Gujarat are flying now! Good length on the pads and at 146.3 clicks Shubman Gill gets his hands in front of his pads and gently pushes it in front of mid-wicket for a boundary. Fuller in length and outside off take pace off as well. Wriddhiman Saha goes through with the drive and pierces the gap at extra cover to find the fence yet again. Just over! Arshdeep Singh comes from around the wicket and angles in another fuller delivery into middle and leg. Wriddhiman Saha plays a checked-drive and gets it just over Sam Curran at mid on. The ball speeds away into the fence. A bit streaky but that will be the third boundary of the over and there are still two deliveries left. Another bumper from around the wicket and over the stumps. Wriddhiman Saha tries to take it on but gets a top edge that flies one-bounce over the fine leg fence for a boundary. Wriddhiman Saha is simply toying with the field now and 18 runs off the over already! Full and wide Saha reaches out and squeezes it in between short third man and backward point for a boundary.
