India are wonderfully placed at the start of day two. However there was a bit of wobble early in their innings after electing to bat first. They lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) Shubman Gill (0) and Rajat Patidar (5) in quick succession as they were reduced to 33/3 in the ninth over. Skipper Rohit was joined by Jadeja and both led the recovery work. The pair of Rohit and Jadeja held the innings nicely. The Indian skipper was dropped by Joe Root at first slip early in the innings and he pounced on the opportunity. He made sure that the English side pays a heavy price as he brought up his ton. Rohit and Jadeja put 204 between them before the former fell on 131. In walked debutant Sarfaraz and he played positively from the word go. Sarfaraz notched up a beautiful half-century in his debut innings and looked settled for a big score before being run out on 62. Jadeja brought up his century and remained unbeaten on 110 along with night-watchman Kuldeep Yadav (1*) as India finished day one on 326/5. Mark Wood has picked up three scalps for the English side. The second new ball is just three overs old and the visitors will look to make full use of it early on day two. Jadeja looked solid at the crease on day one and will be looking to go big and score a daddy hundred today. The English side meanwhile will be looking to pull back things by picking regular wickets on day two. his brings 3000 runs Jadeja in Test cricket. the pads on a fuller length Ravindra Jadeja waits flicks it through deep mid-wicket for a boundary. Vikram Rathour (India batting coach): "There were a few jitters with the scoreboard reading 33/3. I won't be lying. But that can happen on the first day on a fresh wicket. A couple of good balls. So yeah there were a few jitters but the way two pros batted it was really good to see. The dropped players do understand that the team management is really backing the players and giving them enough opportunities. But we have to go with what the team needs at certain times. In case of Axar that was the real case. But on this surface we thought we needed a wrist spinner who can turn the ball a little more. Bharat is a tough one actually. He is being doing well. He got a few opportunities but really couldn't convert those starts. I thought the team management decided to go with some change. We always knew that Sarfaraz can play spin well. But it was good to see him do that on this occasion and this stage." Pitch Report (Deep Dasgupta and Nick Knight): Deep Dasgupta: "As observed yesterday there is nothing for the bowlers apart from the first hour or so. Good pitch to bat on. What we have one day two I have got Nick Knight here with me. Nick what's your assessment for day two?" Nick Knight: "Well not different from what we saw yesterday. The only difference I see is that the cracks are a bit larger here. It's dried out. There is enough in the pitch to hold it together and it will be another good day for batting. Jadeja breaches the 100 finally! A sensational innings from the southpaw at his home ground. It's essentially a good pitch to bat on. But with cracks this big and they are opening up there will be an odd ball that will misbehave. A lot of the English bowlers bowled round the wicket yesterday so there is a rough there for maybe Ashwin to bowl into. But even if we talk a lot about it it's still a good pitch to bat on." Five times in fact since 2000. But only the great Australian team of 2004 had the legs to see an early lead to a series win. That's how hard it is to keep throwing punches in these conditions without copping them back with interest. Even in this decade of impregnability India have found ways to overturn early deficits. In Bengaluru they produced a clinic in attractional bowling. Four years later in Chennai they went the other way and raged on a raging turner. And so on to Vizag 2024 where the hosts will be out to convince the rest of the world that their facade is not in fact fraying and that they simply don't lose consecutive home Tests well not since 2012 anyway. But time is what it is and Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid now have to protect a proud record with a squad that has fewer Test runs. Joe Root and where Ravichandran Ashwin is both the highest wicket-taker and second-highest run and century maker. The captain-coach pair seek quick solutions while colliding head-on with a team that has spent the last 18 months running on an irresistible quantum of jeopardy and the last few weeks. Sweeping any rotating red spherical object out of sight. Lest it is lost in the afterglow it is worth remembering that India were still India in Hyderabad just a little less super-sharp. They led by 190 and had chances that they didn't take. In the end they were done for by what was in many ways a knock for the ages. It'll be interesting to see how they play in the follow up. Imitation however subtle will both be a hat-tip and an acknowledgement of shedding inhibitions. However should they lose the toss again and find the pitch to be similar India will ask for better control from their bowlers and more enterprise from their batters as well as the captain. For the second time in two years Rohit has been properly challenged at home with the marker for the series this time laid down very early. What happens next is a tantalising prospect. Both players are good against spin but Patidar might seem to be ahead in the pecking order by virtue of being called up to the squad earlier to replace Virat Kohli. India The hosts have several ways to go about making up for the double blow of losing KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja. It is certain that at least one of Rajat Patidar or Sarfaraz Khan will debut in the middle-order. The team management did their best to keep the identity and the number of debutants under wraps with both contenders batting even in the optional net session the day before the game. England Jack Leach will miss the Test with a knee injury and tall off-spinner Shoaib Bashir the visa issues behind him will replace him in the XI. James Anderson was at his menacing best in the nets two days out from the game and has been picked as the sole seamer in the XI in place of Mark Wood. What to expect: Spin but not of the extreme kind. Last time when India went down to England in Chennai they produced rank turners. But the absence of four all-time greats from the team might call for a more measured approach. This one is a black soil wicket with a smattering of dried grass to bind it. The two Tests played at this venue have been characterised by the slightly old-school subcontinental slow burn progression before culminating in fifth-day jeopardy which is how this one could also go unless the warmer temperatures aid faster disintegration. In fact they've lost just three Tests (two vs Australia and one vs England) in India during that period. That's an incredible record. Ashwin and Jadeja - the spin twins - have made the visiting teams dance to their tunes. The two experienced tweakers unsurprisingly are once again expected to dominate proceedings. They will be up against an England side that's playing an exciting brand of cricket. Under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum England haven't lost a Test series and they've featured in a lot of memorable Test matches. So will 'Bazball' work against the Indian spinners in Indian conditions? Can England's inexperienced spinners be as effective as their counterparts? One thing is for sure this is going to be a cracking Test series. Hello everyone and a warm welcome to the first of the five Tests between India and England. England in 2012 were the last team to register a Test series win in India. Alastair Cook & Kevin Pietersen batted brilliantly and the England spin duo of Graeme Swann & Monty Panesar outbowled the Indian spinners to register a famous come-from-behind series win. Joe Root and Ravindra Jadeja made their debuts in that series and they've come a long way. Root is currently the second highest run-getter for England in Tests and he has an impressive record against India. He also has a Test average of 50.10 in India. Being England's best player of spin the No. 4 has a big role to play in the series. Playing fearless cricket and being positive from the word go has been the characteristic of Bazball and they certainly won't change their approach in this series especially with the bat. They've already named their playing XI which features three spinners. The left-arm spinner Jack Leach will be back in action after six months. Leggie Rehan Ahmed is just one-Test-old. And Tom Hartley another left-arm orthodox spinner will be making his Test debut. Can they trouble the Indian batters? India failed to conquer their final frontier as they lost the Boxing Day Test in Centurion but they won the New Year's Test in Cape Town inside two days to square the series in South Africa. They are back home and India will start as firm favourites. For the first time in over 12 years the Indian batting line-up will have none of Virat Kohli Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. Kohli pulling out of the first two Tests due to personal reasons would have made the selection call easier. Gill Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are expected to bat at three four and five and the hosts will pick a specialist wicketkeeper. In Ashwin Jadeja and Axar Patel not only do India have three top-class spinners but they are also handy batters lower down the order. Add Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj that's a formidable bowling attack in any conditions. KL Rahul is set to feature in his 50th Test match. Ravindra Jadeja is 6 wickets away from completing 100 international wickets against England. Pitch Report | Murali Kartik and Kevin Pietersen: It's a pitch of three parts. It has very dry edges close to the bat. It's a lot more dry on this side. Here it's going to turn. In the middle of the surface second part there's an even covering of grass but it's dry underneath. Dry patches in the middle of the wicket. To the other side of the wicket there's less dry patch closer to the bat. There's going to be a lot of spin. You win the toss and bat first. The spinners will come into play very soon. Joe Root is 30 runs away from becoming the highest run scorer in Tests against India. HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Crystal Palace (5-0) | Gabriel Magalhães (2), Trossard, Martinelli (2)
HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Crystal Palace (5-0) | Gabriel Magalhães (2), Trossard, Martinelli (2)

We returned to winning ways courtesy of a fine victory over Crystal Palace to move into third place in the Premier League table. The scoring began in the 11th minute when Gabriel converted a corner kick, and then he was in the thick of the action for the second when his header went in off Eagles goalkeeper Dean Henderson for an own goal. The points were secured after the break when Leandro Trossard marked his first anniversary at the club by finishing off a breathtaking counter-attack to put the result beyond doubt before the hour-mark, before two goals in stoppage-time from Gabriel Martinelli completed a fine afternoon’s work by Mikel Arteta’s men. Having lost our previous three matches, the desire for three points was great going into this one, and we always looked in control of proceedings as we enjoyed the majority of possession, territory and crucially, chances. And we would make them count in this game. We entered it having scored more headers than any other side in the division, and our aerial prowess came to the fore once again when we took the lead after 10 minutes. Declan Rice swung over a dangerous delivery, and Gabriel slipped around Chris Richards to get a run towards the ball, and he towered over the American midfielder to head past Henderson to score his second of the campaign. Three minutes later we nearly added a second via fortuitous circumstances when another flag kick - this time from Bukayo Saka - caused issues and Jefferson Lerma saw the ball cannon off his head and onto his own crossbar as Palace breathed a sigh of relief. While we dictated the majority of the first half, chances were few and far between and that allowed the visitors to grow in confidence, and during a brief period of dominance for Roy Hodgson’s team, David Raya did well to fly across his goal to push a Lerma long-ranger to safety. But our lead was strengthened on 37 minutes, and it was that man Gabriel again who did the damage from a corner. This time, Saka got the assist when his delivery found the defender at the back post, and the Brazilian managed to steer the ball goalwards which found the net off the back of Henderson’s head, with the shot-stopper credited with an own goal. Trossard then nearly netted a third right before half-time when he linked up nicely with Gabriel Jesus but saw a fierce shot just fail to hit the target, however he wouldn’t be denied 13 minutes after the restart. A swift counter-attack was initiated when Raya caught a Will Hughes cross and bowled the ball out to Jesus in acres of space. He galloped forward and picked the perfect time to square to the Belgian, who showed great composure to sit Nathaniel Clyne down before blasting past a helpless Henderson to seal our fourth successive win over the Eagles with 30 minutes still to play. With the result beyond doubt, the remainder of the game was played in third gear and the chances dried up. Raya did well again to push over a powerful Eberechi Eze free-kick from just outside the box, and Saka shot over when well placed. However there was a final flourish in injury time when we made the scoreline much more emphatic. Firstly, Saka caught Eze in possession and we sprang another fast break, which saw Eddie Nketiah find Martinelli who coolly slotted past Henderson. Then 102 seconds later, the winger was sent through on goal again courtesy of a delicious pass over the top by Jorginho and found the same corner of the net to put the icing on a well-deserved, and much-needed, victory. #arsenal Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Vivianne Miedema, Leah Williamson,Gabriel Jesus, Alex Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Beth Mead, Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, and more.
