Greene King Championship Highlights. Jersey Reds 56, Yorkshire Carnegie 17
Greene King Championship Highlights. Jersey Reds 56, Yorkshire Carnegie 17

The Reds scored eight tries in chilly conditions under the Friday Night Lights at Stade Santander International to send their supporters home happy. It was a comfortable win for the home side against a game but outclassed Yorkshire Carnegie side who remain winless at the bottom of the Greene King IPA Championship table. The Reds were on the front foot straight from kick-off and Brendan Cope soon broke through to score against his former club. Samoan international Rodney Iona scored his first try for the Reds from a well-worked scrum move and within three minutes had added another. Ryan Shaw slotted a penalty but then Leroy Van Dam crossed in the corner after the ball was quickly spread wide, with Cope handling twice. To their credit, and deprived of the services of former England wing Tom Varndell after a failed head injury assessment, the Yorkshire squad managed to stem the tide and put their opponents under pressure either side of half-time, resulting in three more penalties for Shaw and a yellow card for Iona for preventing quick ruck ball. After making several changes the Reds recovered their poise and added four more tries in 18 minutes, starting just before the hour. Lock Kyle Hatherell cantered over after Will Homer’s break and scoring pass, Van Dam added his second from an Auguy Slowik assist and then two rolling mauls brought a penalty try and a score for Nick Dolly. There was plenty of exciting running rugby to keep the crowd warm, with Slowik, Alex Morgan and James Newey prominent in attack, and impressive efforts from the forwards who were efficient at the set piece, with Zei Alexis putting in a solid 68-minute shift on his first start for the Reds. Cope and his replacement Greg Dyer were flawless from the kicking tee, nailing seven conversions between them including several from wide out. Although they lost replacement hooker Ben Sugars to the sin-bin for the maul offence that caused the penalty try, Carnegie kept going until the final whistle and a powerful break by James Hasson set up a chance in the corner that was well finished by Alex Humfrey. Director of rugby Harvey Biljon was happy to see his side atone for disappointing home defeats to London Scottish and Cornish Pirates in recent weeks. “I’m pleased that we could put on a show in front of our home supporters,” he said. “Our power and speed in the first 20 minutes were excellent, but there was a period in the middle third of the game where we didn’t stick to task and showed a bit of ill-discipline. “There were opportunities for a few players to put their hands up tonight and create some challenges for me in selection for our games in February and it was good to see them take that chance. Five points ahead of a weekend off – I’m happy with that.”

Imad Wasim praises "world class" Afghanistan spinners after leading Pakistan to victory in Leeds It’s done and dusted. The ‘mercurial’ Pakistan Cricket Team have yet again managed to keep their World Cup dreams alive as they beat the gritty Afghanistan side in an absolute humdinger of a game by 3 wickets at Headingly, Leeds. The Afghanistan side yet again, akin their game against India fell agonizingly short of a debut World Cup victory in the ongoing edition. With this win, Pakistan have, for the first time moved to the 4th spot in the points table, pushing the Hosts England down to the 5th. The fans expressed their anger on the fact that Gulbadin’s over consisted of two full tosses and a missed dolly of a run-out at the non-striker’s end. In the very first delivery of the last over, the skipper bowled a juicy full toss outside off to the set Imad Wasim. Although he was lucky enough that it was smashed straight to the fielder at deep cover, costing him only a single. He then bowled a haywire wide slower delivery to Wahab Riaz outside the leg-stump, which again went in his favour, as Wahab went for the pull t get his glove on the way for another single. But, the biggest of them all happened in the third delivery, where he missed an easy run-out opportunity at the non-striking end. He failed to gather an easy return from the fielder at covers, to run Imad out, and what’s worse, nutmegged the ball through his legs for Imad to get back to the strike plus costing an extra run. Not learn from his mistakes, and let the pressure piling heavily upon him, he again bowled a dolly of a full toss to the all rounder, as he smashed it towards the boundary thereby sealing a 3-wicket victory for his side. Gulbadin Naib urges supporters to "just watch the game" after crowd trouble mars Headingley defeat The Afghanistan captain said emotions got the better of some fans but seemed unaware that punches had allegedly be thrown in incidents before and after his side's three-wicket loss to Pakistan Afghanistan captain Gulbadin Naib has urged fans of the sport "to just watch the game" after crowd trouble tainted his side's clash against Pakistan at Headingley. The problems began before the game got underway, with a few people attempting to enter Headingley by climbing a wall. The issues resurfaced again when Pakistan secured their win in Leeds, with the players needing security to escort them off the field, and despite not initially being aware of the scale of the violence, Naib believes some supporters may have become too emotional. "From my side, I think they love players because it's really difficult to reach them anywhere because everyone have their dream players and they're watching them in these kind of matches. England beat Sri Lanka in their Twenty20 International in Colombo
England beat Sri Lanka in their Twenty20 International in Colombo

England beat Sri Lanka in their Twenty20 International in Colombo. England signed off the limited-overs leg of their Sri Lankan tour with a return to winning ways in Colombo as Joe Denly ended an eight-year exile in style. England have played 384 international matches since Denly last appeared on the big stage - a low-key outing against Pakistan in February 2010. But he did more than enough to justify his second chance as the tourists reasserted themselves with a 30-run victory just four days after a record one-day defeat on the same ground. Having scored 20 of England's 187 for eight the 32-year-old took the spotlight with his reborn leg-spin, topping and tailing the innings to finish with four for 19 - the best figures of his professional career. On any ordinary day Adil Rashid's outstanding spell of three for 11 would have dominated, but this was a chance to celebrate Kent's comeback kid, whose chances of appearing in the forthcoming Test series have surely spiked. His bowling was little more than an afterthought when in his early England days but Denly has worked hard on it and may now join Rashid and Moeen Ali in a three-strong spin attack in Galle. England might still have struggled without Jason Roy's 69 - a devil-may-care knock that included six sixes, four fours, four dropped catches and all the fun of the fair. After kicking off with a flurry of burly blows it seemed Roy might be at his domineering best and although that was not the case, he provided fine entertainment. The first reprieve came on 21 when Roy checked a drive and gave a return chance to Isuru Udana, who flung out a hand but failed to hang on. Within a matter of seconds Sri Lanka were appealing in vain for obstructing the field, Roy abandoning a risky single and charging back when the attempted run out him on the back of the leg. There was another spurious appeal for a catch when Roy hit the ball straight into the ground. Roy decided to ride his luck as far as he could, launching himself at almost everything, sometimes clearing the ropes with ease and sometimes relying on the generosity of the fielding side. There were dollies on 34 and 41, grassed at deep-midwicket and long-off, and a trickier fingertip chance via the toe end of the bat on 53. Even at the non-striker's end he was in the thick of it, unwilling or unable to persuade Alex Hales to review a poor lbw and involved in the mis-communication that saw Eoin Morgan run out. When the end came it was fitting, a thin nick off a shudderingly awful Lakshan Sandakan long-hop. Rain arrived moments later and when play resumed almost an hour later England added 74 for four in the remaining 8.4 overs to close on 187 for eight. Morgan surprisingly tossed the new ball to Denly, who has done the job well domestically but was barely a part-time option when he last wore Three Lions. It took six balls to pay off, Kusal Mendis playing inside one that took off stump, and after five more it looked a masterstroke when the dangerous Niroshan Dickwella fell in similar fashion. Rashid's role in the Tests is already assured but he is even happier with a white ball in his hands. With his googly in rude health and a clever change in pace he was near impossible to get hold of, Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis both tried and failed, Hales on hand to catch them in the deep. Much-hyped debutant Mendis had earlier showcased his remarkable ability to bowl right and left arm spin, and will surely be seen again. Dhananjaya de Silva was Rashid's third victim, trapped lbw by a combination of Rashid's wiles and a well-judged DRS referral. Denly returned for the final over the match and, with the result in hand, he picked off Thisara Perera and Malinga to end his day in delight. Denly savoured every moment after producing a man-of-the-match performance on his return to the international stage after more than eight years

Rangers seek fan who struck linesman with a missile during game at Livingston
Rangers seek fan who struck linesman with a missile during game at Livingston

Rangers seek fan who struck linesman with a missile during game at Livingston. Rangers security chiefs will ask their Livingston counterparts for CCTV footage in a bid to help identify the culprit who struck assistant referee Calum Spence with a missile on Sunday. The Ibrox side's clash with Livi at the Tony Macaroni Arena was held up for several minutes after the assistant referee was struck on the back of his head by what appeared to be a coin. The incident occurred around 15 minutes into the second half when an object was thrown from the East Stand housing the travelling Gers support. Spence had to be treated by Lions physio Andy MacKenzie after sustaining a wound to the back of his head. But he was able to continue and saw out the match, which Gary Holt's side won 1-0 thanks to a Dolly Menga winner. Gers chiefs are now set to contact Livingston's security officers to offer assistance in tracking down the person responsible. Sky Sports News understands the incident will be included in the referee's report and the SPFL may take action after reviewing the match delegate's report. After the match, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard condemned the ugly scenes. He said: "I don't think that belongs in football, does it? I think we all know that's not right. He's trying to do a job, so that's not right."
