Red Bull Confirm Hulkenberg Contacted Them
Sidelined F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg has been trying to make a return to F1 and he seemingly helped his cause by impressing many during his stand-in duties for Racing Point a couple of weeks ago. However, this speculation got a bit more traction following Marko’s comments during an interview with ORF after Hulkenberg qualified in 3rd position for the 70th Anniversary GP "He was away for half a year, comes back and puts the car on the third starting position. He has my phone number" Marko followed this up by revealing to Motorsport-Total that Hulkenberg had indeed contacted him “He let us know that he is available” Marko quickly added that this does not automatically mean a Red Bull contract for the German “That doesn't mean that he will be in our car” “It was a great performance. But if everyone comes to us about whom I say drove a great race, we would need a team with ten cars. If one of them does a good job and you acknowledge that, it doesn't mean that he'll get a contract with us” Fast Feed Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly feels that “the situation looks completely different after twelve months. On a professional level, the past twelve months have been extremely good” He further elaborated on how he “achieved” his “first Formula 1 podium in Brazil. That was really positive. Also, this season is going well, since the start of the season” Williams’ George Russell has explained that “even though” they “have the strongest engine in the back” they “are by far the 'most draggy' car on the grid” as well He also added that “fortunately the decision has now been made and” they “are happy that Dorilton are the new owners of the team” He further predicts that the Formula 2 “title is between Shwartzman and Ilott” with Mazepin possiblly being “a surprise in the latter part of the year” McLaren’s Carlos Sainz has revealed that when he wanted “to fight for something at the beginning of” his “F1 career”, he “struggled to raise” his “voice and make” himself noticeable” Renault’s Esteban Ocon “wasn't expecting” to be able to race with Racing Point’s Lance Stroll last week and added that “It was a surprise to catch him and fight with him” Norbert Haug, the former Vice President of Mercedes-Benz motorsport feels that “what Lewis has shown for 14 years in terms of consistency and power in Formula 1 is simply unique and unprecedented” He also thinks that Red Bull’s Max Verstappen “certainly has the same potential and strength. In Formula 1 there are only very good and very, very good drivers. Lewis and Max belong in the second category” Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve thinks that Ferrari “want to make it a real Italian team, but” he doesn't “think it's necessary in Formula 1” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner feels that the protests and the surrounding drama is “all quite normal, it's all part of the soap under the name Formula 1” He also thinks that “probably every team is going to make their positions known to each other and then negotiations will take place behind the scenes” He further added that “the negotiations will also be with the FIA, to ensure as much clarity as possible about what is and isn't allowed” Helmut Marko feels that they’re “not racing in the drivers' championship right now” but “in the engineers' championship” He further elaborated on this by suggesting that "Lewis Hamilton's enormous superiority is the result of a stronger engine" He also thinks that “the spectator doesn't want to admire the best engineering crew, but the driver who drives the racing car at its limit” Would Red Bull benefit by signing Hulkenberg?
