Traditional Defending vs Ball-Playing Defending — Which Is BETTER? 🧠⚽ Every defender in football starts the same — tackle, intercept, clear. That's traditional defending. Old school. Works. Always will. But the BEST defenders in football today do MORE than that. Ball-playing defending = all the defending skills of a traditional CB + dribble under pressure + launch attacks with one pass + read the game before it happens. Van Dijk does it. Beckenbauer did it. Rúben Dias is doing it RIGHT NOW. Football tactics have evolved. A CB who can't play out from the back is already a liability in modern football analysis. Old school stopper or ball-playing CB — which defender actually WINS in 2026? 👇⚽ #football #defending #defender #footballtactics #footballanalysis
WICHITA, Kan. (Apr. 10) – Wichita returned home on Friday night to host Kansas City for the final time this season, falling to the Mavericks 5-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena in front of 9,014 fans. Kyle Jeffers and Peter Bates found the net in the losing effort. Roddy Ross suffered the loss, stopping 37 shots. Just 40 seconds into the game, Casey Carreau connected to make it 1-0. David Cotton stole the puck in the neutral zone, skated down on a two-on-one, fed it over to Carreau and he buried it for his 22nd of the year. At 10:38, Jackson Jutting redirected a point shot from James Marooney to make it 2-0. Wichita appeared to cut the lead to one with five minutes to go in the opening frame. During a net-front scramble, Spencer Blackwell slid home a loose puck. The officials got together to review the play. After looking at the video, the goal was waived off. In the second, Jeffers tallied his 10th of the year to put the Thunder on the board. Nick Nardecchia won a battle below the goal line and found Jeffers in the slot. After whiffing on the initial shot, he stayed with the play and beat Logan Terness. Tabor Heaslip scored with just nine seconds left in the second to make it 3-1. Jutting came around some traffic in the high slot and let a shot go towards the net. Heaslip redirected it past Ross and tallied his first goal as a pro. In the third, Lucas Sowder recorded his 14th of the year to make it 4-1. He intercepted a clearing attempt in the high slot and fired a shot past Ross. At 15:45, Bates connected for his 21st of the season to cut the lead to 4-2. He stole the puck near the Wichita line, skated down on a shorthanded breakaway and beat Terness through the five-hole. Ross was lifted for the extra attacker with just over two minutes remaining. Thomas Farrell fired a shot from the right corner and found an empty net to make it 5-2. Bates has goals in three straight. Jeffers has three points in his last two outings. Nardecchia recorded his first point since February 25. Wichita went 0-for-3 on the power play. Kansas City was 0-for-3 on the man advantage.
Kotor Fortress, most commonly known as the San Giovanni Fortress (or St. John’s Fortress), is one of the most iconic historical landmarks in Montenegro. Rising above the UNESCO-protected Old Town of Kotor, this defensive structure is part of a much larger fortified system that developed over many centuries to protect the strategic Bay of Kotor. The origins of the fortress date back to the Illyrian period, but the majority of the visible structures today were built and expanded during the Venetian rule (1420–1797). The Venetians recognized the importance of Kotor as a maritime and trading hub and heavily fortified the city against frequent attacks from the Ottoman Empire. Over time, the defensive system grew into an impressive network of walls, bastions, gates, and fortifications stretching approximately 4.5 kilometers up the steep mountainside of Mount Lovćen. The fortress climbs to an elevation of about 280 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views over the Bay of Kotor—often described as one of the most beautiful natural harbors in the world. Along the ascent, visitors encounter key historical features such as the Church of Our Lady of Remedy (built in 1518), which served both religious and defensive purposes, and multiple fortified gates that once controlled access to the upper stronghold. The walls of Kotor were engineered to follow the natural contours of the mountain, making them exceptionally difficult to breach. Despite numerous attempts, including several Ottoman sieges, the city was never successfully captured during Venetian rule. The fortress system continued to be used under later rulers, including the Austrians, who made additional modifications in the 19th century. Today, Kotor Fortress is a major cultural and tourist attraction. The climb to the top involves more than 1,300 stone steps and can be physically demanding, especially during the summer months. However, the reward is a unique combination of history, architecture, and breathtaking scenery. The site is part of the Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Visitors are advised to wear proper footwear, carry water, and start early in the day to avoid high temperatures. The fortress is open year-round, though conditions can vary depending on weather. Whether you are interested in medieval military architecture, history, or simply stunning views, Kotor Fortress stands as a powerful reminder of the region’s rich and layered past.
Analysts say the Penguins’ rise from afterthought to playoff lock is remarkable, capped by clinching their first postseason berth since 2022 as the second seed in the Metropolitan after a 5-2 win over the Devils. Once dismissed as a bottom-feeder, Pittsburgh benefits from Dan Muse’s reenergized coaching, a deeper roster, and a high-powered attack that could be Crosby-era’s best. Key factors include Mantha’s 31 goals, Erik Karlsson’s Norris-caliber form, Evgeni Malkin’s resurgence, and strong contributions from a revitalized fourth line. The team has improved defensively, goaltending has exceeded expectations, and the power play ranks around 3.57 goals per game. Crosby remains the catalyst, with Dubas adding effective pieces around him; early doubt has given way to optimism for a potential deep playoff run, with plausible first-round opponents such as the Flyers. To beat the Cincinnati Reds pitching staff in 2026, teams must capitalize on high-velocity right-handers by being selective and aggressively targeting the middle-relief portion of the bullpen. While their starting rotation is among the league's deepest, recent injuries to key stars like Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo have forced younger, less experienced arms into high-leverage roles. 1. Exploit Early-Season Rotation Vulnerabilities Despite their overall depth, the Reds’ rotation is currently hampered by significant injuries. Target Injury Fill-ins: With Hunter Greene (groin) and Nick Lodolo (blisters) sidelined, the Reds are relying on rookies like Chase Burns and Rhett Lowder. Attack Left-Handers Early: Left-handed starter Brandon Williamson struggled in his season debut, giving up six runs—including two home runs to left-handed hitters—indicating a potential vulnerability for southpaws in his repertoire. 2. Force the Bullpen into High-Leverage Situations The Reds' bullpen is considered a "crapshoot" with less upside than their rotation. Pressure the Middle Relief: While closer Emilio Pagán and Tony Santillan have been solid, the middle relief has shown cracks. For instance, Pierce Johnson and Connor Phillips have both had early outings with inflated ERAs over 10.00. Capitalize on Command Issues: High-velocity arms like Zach Maxwell (102+ MPH) can be overpowering but have struggled with command and getting hit hard during their initial tastes of the Majors. #baseball #mlb #baseballcards #sports #topps #baseballlife #baseballseason #sportscards #athlete #cincinnatireds #mlb #baseball #cincinnati #reds #redsbaseball #baseballcards #chicagocubs #topps #milwaukeebrewers #cincinnatiredsbaseball #pittsburghpirates #washingtonnationals #atlantabraves #majorleaguebaseball #newyorkmets #bostonredsox #philadelphiaphillies #miamimarlins #newyorkyankees #cincy #sandiegopadres #thehobby #peterose #whodoyoucollect #sports #losangelesdodgers #sanfranciscogiants #ohio #psa
