As time expires, Atlanta's Chad Nychuk shoots the hockey equivalent of a "Hail Mary" as his shot from center ice goes in before the horn sounds. Initially ruled a goal, this would have tied the game and sent it into overtime. However, after official review, it is waived off as an Atlanta player is ruled offsides. This gives South Carolina a 3-1 series lead, but the shot is amazing nonetheless. Atlanta would win Game 5 in double overtime to return home for Game 6. Over his last 22 games he's slashing .288/.430/.525 with a .955 OPS — all four of his season HRs have come in this stretch. He has a 22-game on-base streak, the 4th longest active in all of MLB and the longest by any Cardinal this season. His Statcast profile backs every bit of it — 90.2 mph avg exit velocity, 45.5% hard-hit rate, .379 wOBA and .373 xwOBA nearly perfectly aligned. In 2025 he became the first catcher in Cardinals franchise history to hit three homers in a single game — a three-HR, six-RBI explosion.
