We’re back in Premier League action this weekend with a trip to Brentford following the international break. Take a look at how our lads got on in the latest session at London Colney as we get ready to face the Bees. We’ll be looking to pick up where we left off after a 3-1 win against Burnley that left us third in the Premier League prior to the international break. Thomas Frank’s side will be hoping to show a response to their 3-0 loss at Liverpool in early November. #arsenal Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe, Vivianne Miedema, Gabriel Jesus, Alex Zinchenko, Leah Williamson, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White and more. Leandro Trossard scored our 1,000th goal at Emirates Stadium, before William Saliba and Alex Zinchenko added second-half to earn all three points against Burnley. Trossard went in bravely at the far post to break the deadlock at the end of the first half, and although the visitors briefly drew level through a deflected Josh Brownhill effort, we deservedly wrapped up the points thanks to our prowess at set-pieces. Saliba headed home Trossard’s corner, before Zinchenko acrobatically scored our third, when another dangerous corner wasn’t fully cleared. We finished the game with ten men after Fabio Vieira was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Brownhill, but we saw out time comfortably to extend our unbeaten home run and move up to second place. After a moving rendition of The Last Post, and reading of Ode of Remembrance, we got play under way on a sunny, autumnal afternoon in north London. Gabriel headed over a corner early on, but the first effort on target came from the hosts – Zeki Amdouni’s long range effort was turned behind by David Raya. We first made James Trafford work when Bukayo Saka was alive to a loose ball in the box, and lashed a right-footed shot first time towards the top corner, but the young Burnley keeper pushed the shot onto the bar and away. We were beginning to warm to our task, and create more chances. The twinkle-toed Alex Zinchenko set up Saka inside the area and his low cross was scrambled away, before Saka was penalised for a shove in the box when Jordan Beyer’s header looked to be lopping into his own goal. Burnley were soaking up the pressure, but served warning of their goal threat when Johann Gudmundsson drew a good low save from Raya when he broke through centrally. Trossard was next to try his luck for us. Declan Rice snapped into a challenge in midfield to win the ball and release Kai Havertz. He found the Belgian on the edge of the box, and his dipping effort was tipped over. As the seconds ticked away to half-time, we finally made the breakthrough. Saka won another dangerous cross into the box from Zinchenko, and headed towards Trossard at the far post. The Belgian kept his eye on the ball despite being challenged by Trafford, to nod home from close range. As he received treatment on the floor, the Emirates faithful celebrated the 1,000th goal we’ve scored at the stadium since moving here in 2006. More significantly, it put us ahead after a patient first-half performance. But the lead was erased early in the second half. The lively Luca Koleosho got the better of Takehiro Tomiyasu on the left, caused confusion with his cross, and Josh Brownhill saw his shot beat Raya with the aid of a deflection from Gabriel. We responded instantly. Gabriel Martinelli streaked away on the left and fired his shot at Trafford at the near post. From the resulting corner from Trossard, Saliba got in front of the keeper to thud home a header at close range. Rice fired just wide from 25 yards before we finally secured a two-goal cushion. Trossard’s corners had been coughing problems all afternoon, and another delivered into a dangerous area bounced against the bar off a Burnley defender, before falling to Zinchenko, who improvised brilliantly to volley into the top corner. It was a lovely finish. Just like Saliba’s, it was the Ukrainian’s first goal at the Emirates. It gave us some breathing room, but our task was made more difficult again when substitute Vieira was sent off for a studs high challenge on Brownhill. Down to ten men, we had more defending to do in the closing stages, but we saw out the remaining ten minutes or so with little cause for alarm, and in fact finished with nine, when Jorginho was taken off with a head injury deep into stoppage time. Martin Odegaard’s penalty was enough to beat Crystal Palace and record back-to-back wins at the start of the campaign, despite us finishing with 10 men. The captain stroked home a spot-kick on 53 minutes after Eddie Nketiah was brought down in the box by Sam Johnstone, before Takehiro Tomiyasu was dismissed for two yellow cards - our first dismissal in the Premier League since May 2022. However Mikel Arteta’s team clung onto the points thanks to a solid rearguard display from that point onwards to kick off the season with six points from six. Late drama at Wembley saw us clinch our 17th Community Shield by beating Manchester City 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes. An excellent first half from Mikel Arteta’s team, featuring three debutants in Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz saw them do everything but score, with the latter twice forcing Stefan Ortega into saves with his feet to keep a lacklustre City in the game. But after the break, Pep Guardiola’s team improved and they grabbed the only goal when substitute Cole Palmer curled home a shot on 77 minutes to seemingly hand City the silverware, but in the 11th minute of second-half stoppage-time, Leandro Trossard saw a shot strike Manuel Akanji and trickle into the net to set up a penalty shootout. After Kevin de Bruyne hit the crossbar and Aaron Ramsdale saved from Rodri, Fabion Vieria fired home the winning kick to cap a dramatic comeback and allow Martin Odegaard to hoist the silverware. A hugely encouraging first half saw us enjoy the better chances and look the more dangerous in attack, while nullifying City to a couple of half-chances. The reigning Treble holders had the first efforts of the game when Rodri saw a low shot blocked by Declan Rice and dribble just wide of the base of the post, and the same fate befell Julian Alvarez soon after. But we grew into the game as it developed and on 25 minutes we carved out our first great opportunity when Ben White cut inside on the right and picked out Havertz in the box. The German spun and got a shot away which was saved by the outstretched boot of Ortega, and then Gabriel Martinelli’s rebound was blocked by the chest of John Stones. Havertz was enjoying his first outing in an Arsenal shirt as he regularly provided an outlet at the spearhead of our attack, and his physical presence caused the City defence plenty of issues. He came even closer to getting his first Gunners goal when we again found joy down the right through Bukayo Saka whose cutback from the byline allowed Havertz to pull the trigger, but he was again denied by the reaction of Ortega. Guardiola’s team’s frustrations were summed up when Rodri attempted an audacious effort from the halfway line but failed to catch Aaron Ramsdale out, as the champions went in fortunate not to be behind. Our dominance in possession initially continued after the break, but the opening 20 minutes after the restart saw chances dry up for both teams, although John Stones forced Ramsdale to make a good stop when he met a corner with his head. The lack of attacking prowess saw Guardiola opt to withdraw the quiet Erling Haaland for Cole Palmer, and the youngster was found in space in the box midway through the second half but an excellent block by Jurrien Timber snuffed the chance out. But on 77 minutes we weren’t so lucky the second time around when the same man got a similar opportunity from a similar area. After City had countered through Phil Foden, a fortunate rebound allowed Kevin de Bruyne - so often the thorn in our side - to find the young attacker managed who curled the ball around the outstretched Ramsdale to hand his team the lead. With the lead in their grasp, City began to turn the screw and only two great stops by Ramsdale kept us in contention; firstly staying big when Foden was found in close range and managed to divert his attempt, and from the resulting corner he managed to shovel away Rodri’s near post header. During a lengthy period of second-half stoppage-time, we pushed hard for an equaliser, and in the 101st minute we forced a corner and Trossard tried his luck from the edge of the area, and saw his shot cannon off Akanji and deceive Ortega to hand us a shot at glory via a penalty shootout.
