Hello and a warm welcome to our coverage of the fifth and final day's play of the first Test match of this 3-match Test series featuring the hosts Pakistan against the visitors England from the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. That will be Stumps on Day 4. Another intriguing day comes to an end. At the end of the day all three results are possible. England may have their noses in front but Pakistan are not out of it by any means. It was an action-packed Day 4 to say the least. Pakistan resumed today with a deficit of 158 with 3 wickets in hand. Salman Agha scored a valuable 53 off 67 balls to take Pakistan closer to England's first innings. Naseem Shah contributed with 15 off 21 balls. Zahid Mahmood did well as he hung around for 48 balls to score 17 runs. Haris Rauf scored 12 off 32 balls as Pakistan ended at 579 in 155.3 overs with the help of 18 extras given by the English bowlers. A couple of wickets apiece for Naseem Shah Mohammad Ali and Zahid Mahmood. Mahmood went for a lot of runs today. Agha Salman picked up the other wicket despite being very expensive. All the bowlers were taken to the cleaners. Chasing a target of 343 to take a 1-0 lead Pakistan lost Abdullah Shafique for 6. Azhar Ali faced just 2 balls before retiring hurt as he was hit on the gloves and hurt his finger badly. The big wicket of Babar Azam was scalped by his opposite number Ben Stokes for 4. Pakistan was 25/2 at one stage. Since then the duo of Imam ul Haq and Saud Shakeel has added 55 runs for the third wicket and has taken their side close. Imam is batting on 43* off 60 balls while Shakeel is batting on 24* off 42 balls as Pakistan ended Day 4 at 80/2 after 20 overs needing a further 263 runs more to win the contest. A wicket apiece for Ollie Robinson and Ben Stokes. A lot of hard work awaits the English bowlers when action resumes on the fifth and final day tomorrow. So the equation is simple. Pakistan needs 263 more runs to win while England will require a further 8 wickets to win the contest. Azhar Ali is retired hurt and we don't know whether he will be able to bat tomorrow. A fascinating Day 5 awaits us. We have had four absorbing days of Test match cricket in Rawalpindi where the bat has dominated the ball on a lifeless track. But thanks to England's aggressive brand of cricket and declaration they have pushed the game forward and made sure that all results are possible coming into the final day's play. When we started off we felt like we maybe staring at a dull draw. But that won't be the case today as this game can go either way. It was an action-packed Day 4 to say the least. Pakistan resumed Day 4 at 499/7 and added 80 runs for the last three wickets to finish with 579 in 155.3 overs. They got there thanks to Salman Agha who notched up a very important half-century to score 53 off 67 balls. He was ably supported by Zahid Mahmood who hung around for 48 balls for 17 runs. Haris Rauf battling an injury hung around for 32 balls for his 12 runs. 18 extras contributed to the total as Pakistan handed 78-run first innings lead to England. The debutant Will Jacks was the pick of the bowlers for England as he sent down 40.3 overs and picked up 6 wickets for 161 runs. He was ably supported by Jack Leach as he sent down 49 overs and picked up a couple of wickets for 190 runs. A wicket apiece for the pace bowlers James Anderson and Ollie Robinson. It's New Zealand versus Pakistan for the grand finale at the Hagley Oval. Mind you this is going to be the last international contest for both sides ahead of the highly anticipated T20 World Cup. ROUND ROBIN OVERVIEW: The hosts didn't quite start the tournament in a rosy fashion as they suffered a defeat to Pakistan. But since then Kane Williamson's army has won hattrick of games defeating Bangladesh twice and Pakistan once thereby headlining in the finals. Meanwhile Pakistan has been equally formidable in the Tri-series winning three out of the four matches losing one against New Zealand. They come off a close victory against Bangladesh in their latest confront chasing a target of 174 with one ball and seven wickets to spare. WHAT TO EXPECT: Pakistan is likely to form with the same combinations but their middle and lower middle-order batting has been a huge concern. Haider Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed have been a despair for the side for a long time now. On the flip side one can expect Captain Kane Williamson and Mitchell Santner to return for the all-important final as they were rested for the previous game. Finn Allen played a great knock in the previous contest and therefore he could be given a nod. But the interrogation will be where are we gonna see Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill bat. Perhaps Mark Chapman and Ish Sodhi shall make way for the NZ skipper and Santner. Head-to-Head in the last five matches between the two nations Pakistan has got the extra edge with three wins under their name. The equation is 1-1 in the ongoing event and both sides will be blazing all guns to yield a victory which in return will be a great morale boost for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Hello and a warm welcome to our coverage of the sixth and final league match of the Tri-Series 2022 where Bangladesh will face Pakistan at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. It is an inconsequential match as far as qualification for the final is concerned. Bangladesh are out of the reckoning while Pakistan will face New Zealand in the final tomorrow. With the T20 World Cup on the horizon no game is dead for any team as the Tigers will search for the ideal combination and end the tournament on a high with a win. We have a dead rubber on our hands before the big final between New Zealand and Pakistan takes place on Friday! So in the final match of the round-robin Pakistan will lock horns with Bangladesh at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Pakistan started the tournament with a big win against the same opponents they are facing in this encounter and then they went on to defeat the hosts as well. While it was Mohammad Rizwan in the first game and Babar Azam in the second game. Two of the world's best have done their job of winning a game for their side in this tri-series. The Bowling side has been consistent in those matches they have won. All the stars were shining bright on the Men in Green but a hiccup in the previous game against the Kiwis gave a chance for Bangladesh to get some hope of qualifying. But it is a closed topic now as Bangladesh lost to the hosts in their previous T20I. Losing against New Zealand and that too without any fight was a bit of a hear-break for the Babar Azam-led side. They sit in second place with two wins from three matches gaining four points. On the flip side the Shakib Al Hasan-led unit are right at the bottom as they have lost all of their three matches. They haven't been at their best and didn't perform as a group. However with the World Cup approaching the team is a good opportunity for the players to gain some confidence through this game. Pakistan might chop and change the side as they would like to manage the workload factor before the big game. Not sure about Bangladesh's decision on the XI as they need to finish the competition on a high. Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content. The host New Zealand will take on Pakistan in round 2 of the series at the beautiful Hagley Oval in Christchurch. After a day's pause New Zealand is all set to take on Pakistan in match 4 of the ongoing Tri-Series which includes both this nation and Bangladesh. The game will be played in the Hagley Oval. THE PREVIOUS ENCOUNTER: This is not the first time that both sides are battling out in the underway series. The Hosts met Pakistan in the second game of the Tri-Series where the latter came on top. New Zealand managed a below-par score of 147 which the visitors chased down with 6 wickets and 10 balls to spare. Babar Azam was brilliant with the blade in hand and carried Pakistan with the chase. HOW'S THE STAGE? Pakistan is sitting on top of the points table at the moment with 4 points from 2 games. They have won both of their games - against Bangladesh and New Zealand in the first round. A win in the upcoming fixture would push them into the final berth. On the flip side New Zealand kickstarted the in-progress series with a loss in the hands of the Men in Green. In the following game against Bangladesh they chased down a target of 138 runs with ease and bagged up two crucial points. Devon Conway has been among the run makers for the Black Caps. At the moment they sit in the second position sandwiched between two Asian nations. Although the bigger setback for them has been the loss of Daryl Mitchell in the series due to a sustained injury. WHAT TO EXPECT? Kane Williamson and his men will be looking to clinch an act of revenge against the Asian nation but it's worth notifying that the task isn't going to be easy-peasy for them. Pakistan will look to bolster their chances of qualification by playing their A-game as usual. Pakistan won their previous encounter with the Kiwis with ease as they chased down 147 with 6 wickets and 10 balls to spare. Babar Azam made an unbeaten 79 to get his side through. New Zealand got off the mark with a win against Bangladesh and will look to put up a similar show against the Men In Green. Pitch Report: The surface at Hagley Oval has been pretty balanced in this series but even with short boundaries here a high-scoring game hasn’t been seen in the series so far. 170-175 should be a good total batting 1st. The captain winning the toss will be looking to chase. The average 1st innings score at this venue has been 157 and teams chasing have won the majority of the encounters. Team Overview (Pakistan): Pakistan kickstarted the competition in a solid manner after defeating Bangladesh by a margin of 21 runs. Batting first Babar Azam's men could get to a total of 167 runs on the back of Mohammed Rizwan's sensational 78* of 50 deliveries. The Men in Green showed a team effort in their bowling and restricted the Tigers to 146 runs thereby winning by a margin of 21 runs. All of their bowlers bagged a wicket with Mohammed Wasim Jr. being the pick of them three in his bag. Team Overview (New Zealand): New Zealand arrives on the scene after being on the receiving end of a clean sweep in the hands of Australia in the Trans-Tasmanian ODI series. The last T20I series they played was against West Indies where they incurred a 2-1 series win. The worst possible news for the Kiwis is that Daryl Mitchell has been ruled out of the series owing to a fracture in the finger. He is also doubtful for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Earlier Blair Tickner was called up as a cover for Mitch Santner who will arrive later in the ongoing trio event due to the birth of his first child. Points of Concern: - Pakistan seems overdependent on their top three. No. 4-8 needs to get settled ahead of the showpiece event. - Despite being promising the Pakistan pace attack has gone for runs in their previous series against England on various occasions. - The dull form of Kane Williamson Devon Conway and Martin Guptill is a serious concern for the Black Caps. - The absence of Daryl Mitchell and Mitch Santner may turn out expensive with respect to the preparations for the marquee event. The first match of the series will be played between the Asian neighbours at Hagley Oval Christchurch with temperatures expected to be around 4 degrees celsius. Pakistan are coming off a 4-3 series loss against the English side who dominated them in their own backyard. Despite some good performances from the opener Mohammed Rizwan the Men in Green were outplayed by the pace of their opponents which might be a big concern for them in this series too. On the other hand Bangladesh won their previous two-match series against the UAE where they did not miss the opportunity to defeat a slightly weaker side. However in the Asia cup they went home winless losing in both the games they played against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Pakistan are highly dependent on the form of Mohammad Rizwan to take them through with their skipper Babar Azam being out of touch for a month. Their bowling looks a bit better but it will be interesting to see how they perform on these wickets. The Tigers might struggle a lot with their bowling and more so with their batting which finds it difficult to deal with pace. Head-to-head Pakistan are up by 8-2 against their rivals in the ten matches they have played so far. Expect a high-octane clash when these two dominant Asian sides clash against each other in the backdrop of the World Cup. Pitch Report: The Hagley Oval is normally a safe haven for batters but pacers also get enough help to keep them interested. In the 2 T20Is played at the venue the average 1st innings score is 168 with the chasing side winning one of those two games.
