LUNDSTRAM FOR BALLON D’OR | Sheffield United 3-0 Burnley - Match Reaction

John Lundstram scored twice and Lys Mousset registered a hat-trick of assists as Sheffield United thrashed Burnley 3-0 at Bramall Lane. The Blades netted all three goals in the first half with the result moving them up to sixth in the Premier League in what has been an extraordinary season so far for the promoted side, while Burnley drop to 14th. Lundstram opened the scoring (17) when he rounded off a fantastic team goal. Defender Enda Stevens found David McGoldrick with a long ball down the left - bursting forward and crossing to Mousset in the middle - who made a crucial touch to set up Lundstram on his right, who slotted home. He registered his second of the afternoon with a near-identical goal (43) and 91 seconds later the Blades found themselves 3-0 up (44) when John Fleck hit a spinning left-footed shot across goal to beat 'keeper Nick Pope. Sheffield United dominated the second half and Burnley failed to register a single shot on target across the 90 minutes in what was an impressive victory for Chris Wilder's men. Both sides saw early penalty appeals turned down. Fleck's ball into the Burnley box appeared to hit Ashley Westwood on the arm before Jack O'Connell nudged Jay Rodriguez in the back, but referee Simon Hooper was not interested in either claims. The Blades dominated the early stages; striker McGoldrick had the first real chance when the ball fell to him from a George Baldock cross after Mousset failed to connect. He had plenty of space and time to get a shot on target but fired well wide. However, Sheffield United deservedly took the lead with a well-taken counter-attack. Lundstram found the back of the net after Mousset just about poked the ball in his direction from McGoldrick's cross. Burnley then saw another penalty appeal turned down when the ball appeared to strike O'Connell on the arm, with VAR backing up Hooper's initial decision, despite Sean Dyche's protests. Soon after and Sheffield United found themselves 2-0 ahead. The goal was almost identical to the first; Stevens ran down the left, crossed in to Mousset who flicked it on to Lundstram and he fired past Pope. Then, just 91 seconds later, Fleck made it 3-0 when James Tarkowski was dispossessed by Mousset. The young French striker fed through his team-mate down the left and Fleck shot across goal with his left foot to beat Pope once again.

Sheffield United 1-2 West Brom: Kieran Gibbs strikes the winner as Baggies move up to third. West Brom came from behind to win 2-1 at Sheffield United and climb above their opponents into third in the Sky Bet Championship table. David McGoldrick put the home side ahead but Albion equalised late in the first half through Gareth Barry before Kieran Gibbs struck the winner with 14 minutes left. Victory extended Darren Moore's side's unbeaten run to six games and left the Blades without a win in their last three home fixtures. The hosts pressed early on and Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was called into action to tip Mark Duffy's cross behind. Poor distribution from Johnstone then presented United with a chance as Oliver Norwood intercepted the ball and played in McGoldrick, who was denied by the keeper. The opening goal came in the 12th minute when Chris Basham found Duffy and his incisive ball allowed McGoldrick to evade his marker and fire past the advancing Johnstone. The chances continued to come for the hosts, with Duffy's deflected low shot being saved by Johnstone at his near post before McGoldrick sent over a cross which was just too high for Norwood. At the other end, Albion won a free-kick around 30 yards which was taken by Harvey Barnes, who curled his effort wide of Dean Henderson's right-hand post. It was the home side who continued to dominate, however, with skipper Billy Sharp the next to threaten as he saw his shot from inside the area charged down. Jack O'Connell then sent over a low cross which was deflected across the face of goal, with no-one there to apply the finish. Albion equalised in the 41st minute when Barnes broke free down the left, advanced to the byline and pulled the ball back to former England international Barry, who fired high into the net from 12 yards. Buoyed by the goal, Albion threatened to score again when Matt Phillips forced a save from Henderson. Shortly before the break, Sharp fired in a shot from the left-hand side of the area which hit the side-netting. The opening chance of the second half fell to Albion's Jay Rodriguez, who headed over after meeting a cross from Phillips, before John Fleck put a low shot wide at the other end of the pitch. The visitors had a great chance to go in front when they caught United on the break and Barnes was put through on goal, but Henderson deflected his effort over the crossbar. McGoldrick put a header off target and Rodriguez sliced his effort wide before Albion took the lead. The goal came when Phillips showed tenacity on the right wing to hold off his marker before crossing to Barnes, who back-heeled the ball into the path of Gibbs and he fired low into the far corner of the net. Sharp shot over from the edge of the area as the hosts looked to get back on level terms. Conor Washington was sent on in place of Duffy to add some extra spark up front but Wilder's men never seriously threatened to draw level as they went down to their third home defeat of the season.

Breaking News - Sheffield Utd 1-2 Swansea: Dhanda scores winner with first Swans touch

Managers are fond of saying the season is a marathon and not a sprint but, whatever the length of the race, it helps to get off to a good start. For new Swansea City boss Graham Potter, this dramatic victory secured through 19-year-old substitute Yan Dhanda's 85th-minute strike was sweet beyond surely his fondest imaginings. The Swans could have easily buckled when Sheffield United wing-back George Baldock finished off a neatly-crafted move in the 62nd minute to rewards the home side's dominance. They did not.  RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next West Brom 1-2 Bolton: Yanic Wildschut scores last-gasp... 'It is never a difficult decision to leave out a player who... To turn the game around at somewhere like this shows their character and determination. I'm very proud of them.'The 43-year-old is Swansea's fifth manager in less than two years and is facing a mountainous task; over a dozen players have gone since last season's Premier League relegation and less than a handful of new signings have been made.Nevertheless, his men showed commendable spirit to keep United at bay with some obstinate defending for the first hour before pilfering the points late on.In the 61st minute, United led when John Lundstram's low left-wing cross was expertly dispatched by Baldock's sweetly-struck right-foot shot into the bottom corner. Yet Swansea steadied themselves
