The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the gala tournament midway on May 4 due to the pandemic. The remaining matches of the season will now take place in the United Arab Emirates in September-October. While BCCI would be preparing for the smooth conduct of the UAE leg, they also have an eye on the next season. For the unversed, IPL will undergo many transitions in the 2022 season which will also see the tournament expansion. Two new teams are set to come into the picture, making IPL a 10-team event. Only eight teams have been participating since the 2014 edition. Hence, it would be interesting to see what the change in dynamics will result in. Moreover, a mega auction is also set to take place for next year’s event which would see all the teams going under massive revamps. The Times of India reported that instead of three, four players can be retained ahead of the bidding event but under some specific conditions. Either a side can retain three Indians and one overseas player or two locals and as many foreign stars. Teams to have more money in the purse hints BCCI The report further said that BCCI is set to increase the salary purse from INR 85 crore to INR 90 crore, adding INR 50 crore to the total salary pool. It is mandatory for all the franchises to spend at least 75% of the allotted purse. Franchises retaining players must deduct specified sums from their salary purse before heading into the auction pool. As per the existing structure, the deduction in purse amount is laid down as follows: INR 15 crore, INR 11 crore, and INR 7 crore if three players are retained, INR 12.5 crore and INR 8.5 crore in case of two players, and INR 12.5 crore if only one player is retained. However, this structure is likely to undergo some changes with BCCI allowing teams to retain four players now. Speaking of IPL 2021, many teams might not be able to field their best combination with foreign players likely to pull out of the tournament owing to travel restrictions and quarantine protocols. Moreover, the tournament will be followed by the high-voltage ICC T20 World Cup and national boards will want their players to be fit for the event. IPL 2022 : RCB New coach | Indian Captain Rohit sharma? | BCCI unhappy with MI? | IPL news Tamil #ipl #ipl2022 #iplauction #ipl2022tamil #iplschedule #iplnews #vivoipl RCB appoint Sanjay Bangar as head coach for next two IPL seasons Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have appointed former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar as the head coach of the team for the next two Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons. He was part of the coaching staff last season as batting coach and has been promoted now to the top post. Simon Katich was the head coach when the season started earlier this year in April, however, in the second leg Mike Hesson took over partly with Katich stepping down. Meanwhile, Hesson continues to be the Director of Cricket Operations at the RCB and he announced the decision of appointed Bangar as the head coach of the team. Bangar will now have a new captain to work with as Virat Kohli stepped down as the leader of the pack at the end of the IPL 2021. Though various reports have been emerging, RCB is expected to find their new captain in the upcoming mega auction. “We have appointed Sanjay Bangar as head coach of RCB for the next two years. Sanjay is highly respected as a coach, primarily known as batting coach but certainly has far more expertise than just that. We are certainly lucky to have Sanjay onboard with us at RCB and to be able to promote him to head coach, we are delighted with that appointment,” Hesson said in a video released by RCB on its Twitter handle. Sanjay Bangar thanks RCB management for the opportunity The newly appointed head coach Sanjay Bangar also expressed his gratitude towards the franchise for showing faith in him for the top job. He informed that they have already started to strategize for the auction and even the scouting teams, along with the coaches, have come together to decide on which players they should pick for the next season. “I would like to thank RCB management and the entire structure at RCB for reposing faith in me and giving me an opportunity in the position of a head coach. Our work has already begun in terms of our auction strategy and retentions and all of that. I would like to assure each one of the RCB fans that we are committed to build a strong franchise and we are committed to achieve the long cherished dream of RCB to win an IPL Championship,” he said. This has led to a speculation that CSK might be trying to get him in the IPL 2022 Mega auction. Also CSK tried to transfer Samson in the IPL 2021 transfer window as per reports. CSK and RCB tried trading off Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals: Aakash Chopra Soon after all eight franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL) submitted there list of players retained and released, one of the moves which became a talking point was Rajasthan Royals (RR) releasing skipper Steve Smith ahead of the IPL mini auction. More surprisingly, the one-time IPL winners also decided to promote youngster Sanju Samson as the skipper of the team. The move is said to be a big gamble considering Samson is yet to prove himself as a world-class batsman. As the lists were released on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra made a big revelation by saying that he came to know that two popular franchises – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as well as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) tried luring Samson, looking to trade him off from the Royals ahead of the announcement. “I have come to know that there were 2 teams who were trying to poach Sanju Samson, trying to lure him. One was Royal Challengers Bangalore and the other was Chennai Super Kings. After being approached by these two franchises, even the Royals would have thought to not only retain Samson but also increase his stature in the team,” Chopra said. Chopra backed Royals’ move to let go of skipper Smith saying 12.5 crore was a huge amount for him and that he doesn’t think any franchise will bid that much amount for the former Australian captain. “I don’t like the idea of an overseas captain. When you go with an overseas captain, he is 25% of your resource from the overseas lot. I think it’s a good move to release Steve Smith. I don’t think he is worth Rs 12.5 crore. I would be very surprised if someone bids this much for him,” Chopra said. At the same time, the two new sides will be allowed to have three players outside of the bidding event. For the unversed, IPL is set to expand in 2022 with two new teams coming into the picture. Hence, one will see 10 teams battling it out for the prestigious title. A mega auction is also set to take place ahead of the competition which would see many teams going under major revamps. While an official announcement is yet to come, the existing franchises will reportedly be able to retain four players heading into the auction event. Existing 8 teams can retain up to four players “The 8 existing team will first get the opportunity to retain a maximum of 4 Players and thereafter the 2 new teams will be able to retain a maximum of 3 players before the auction,” the BCCI said in a mail to the franchises on Saturday afternoon (October 30), Cricbuzz reported. Meanwhile, the names of the other two teams are yet to be finalized. However, the base cities and franchise owners are confirmed. While Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group successfully bid for the Lucknow franchise, CVC Capitals Partners claimed the Ahmedabad-based team. With firms and organizations breaking their banks to become a part of IPL, BCCI earned a whopping INR 12,690 crore from the two new franchises. Notably, IPL is set to become a 10-team event for the first time since 2013.
