India: How a fake 'IPL' cricket league ran for Russian punters The video is soundless - a blue strap at the bottom of the screen tells you the scores of the batting team, the two batters, the projected score and the bowling records. It says that Chennai Fighters are chasing a score of 151 set by the Gandhinagar Challengers. The outfield is brown and dusty, and the cricket pitch is a whitish carpet nailed to the ground. The Chennai team is scoring at a steady clip of nearly seven runs an over. Strokes are sometimes played but we never see a ball reach the boundary. The batters mostly run clumsy ones or twos. The umpire appears to be more enthusiastic than the players, waving his hands vigorously, signalling wides and no balls. In keeping with the rather amiable mood of the game, a bowler doesn't seem to be interested in running out a batsman who's stranded yards away from the crease. A young man comes running to the field with what looks like an ice box, and players take a drinks break. There are no close-up shots of the players, most of the fielders and no views of an audience. All this looks like a local, video-recorded Twenty20 cricket match being played somewhere in India. This means 33 players, with a difference of 13 players as compared to the previous season, have received contracts for the next 12 months. According to the schedule announced and confirmed by New Zealand Cricket, the series will be played between October 7 and 14, 2022 in Christchurch. Pakistan will face Bangladesh in the opening game of the triangular series on October 7. Babar Azam’s men will face New Zealand on day two of the tournament. The green shirts will again face the black caps on October 11 in the second league match before taking on Bangladesh on October 13. The final will be played on October 14. According to the PCB, the Pakistan team will leave for Christchurch on October 4 after completing the seven-match T20I series against England at home. The series against England will conclude on October 2. PCB announces 16-player squad for ODIs against West Indies PCB announces 16-player squad for three ODIs against West Indies. Matches are scheduled at Pindi Cricket Stadium on June 8, 10 and 12. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Monday named the 16-player squad for the three International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League One-Day Internationals (ODI) against the West Indies. As the series will not be played in a Managed Event Environment, the selectors have decided to reduce the 21-player squad for the home Australia ODIs to 16 players. Those left out of the squad from next month’s matches are Asif Afridi, Asif Ali, Haider Ali and Usman Qadir. Saud Shakeel was not considered as he is scheduled to undergo surgery for sinusitis. The matches are scheduled at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on June 8, 10 and 12. Babar Azam will continue to lead the side, while Shadab Khan, who missed the Australia ODIs due to an injury, has returned as vice-captain. The squad will assemble in Rawalpindi on June 1 for a training camp and Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan, who are currently playing in the English County Championship, will join the squad in time for the practice sessions. In this regard, Chief Selector Muhammad Wasim said: “As the ODIs against the West Indies are part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 qualification, we have decided to give the best chance to our side to collect maximum points and strengthen our chances of progressing directly for the pinnacle 50-over tournament. We have retained the same core of players so they further establish themselves in the format. I hope this bunch will continue the form they gained from the Australia series. “Also, and taking into consideration that there will be no Managed Event Environment and the players can be called at a short notice, we have reduced the squad size to 16 players. “For the Australia ODIs, we had also announced backup players as cover to those players who were dealing with injuries. Players such as Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan are now fully fit, which has allowed us to leave out Asif Afridi and Usman Qadir. He said that Usman, along with Asif Ali and Haider Ali remain in the PCB’s plans for the shortest format as they have a series of T20I lined up this year, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
