South Korea deals Philippines another heartbreak in Asian Games basketball
South Korea has been the bane of the Philippines’ campaign in the Asian Games basketball. The Filipinos’ 91-82 loss in the 2018 Asian Games on Monday is just the latest of a long list of heartbreaks handed to the Philippines by the hotshooting South Koreans in the continental meet. The last time the country was successful over South Korea was in the 1970 edition of the Games at Bangkok, Thailand where the Filipinos came away with a 70-65 win. While the Philippines had put an end to the South Korea curse with a phenomenal semifinals victory in the 2013 Fiba Asia Championships, the same can’t be said in the Asian Games. The hastily-formed Philippine squad was once again booted out of the medal race this year by South Korea in a frustrating fashion, which has become an all-too-familiar situation for the Filipinos. Even with NBA guard Jordan Clarkson in tow, the Filipinos didn’t have enough fight left in the endgame and failed to stop the South Koreans from heating up in the fourth. A 13-2 run turned a 68-67 lead for the Filipinos into an eight-point game in favor of the South Koreans with under five minutes left to play and there was hardly anything Clarkson and the rest could do from then on. In 2014, the Filipinos also lost grip of a chance to vie for a medal after a stunning 97-95 loss to South Korea, which came back from 16-points down, in the preliminary round. The Philippines, then led by some of the players from the silver medal-winning team in Fiba Asia, was sent reeling to their worst finish in the Asian Games at seventh place. Even in the 1998 Asian Games, the last time the country had a podium finish in basketball, it was South Korea which botched the Filipinos’ gold medal plans. The Tim Cone-coached Centennial team, led by players who have become PBA legends today, absorbed a jarring 83-103 loss to the South Koreans which sent them into a collision with defending champion China in the semifinals. The Filipinos could also salvage the bronze medal that year. But there is perhaps nothing more heartbreaking than the Filipinos’ defeat to the hometown team in the 2002 Busan Asian Games, widely considered as the most painful loss in the country’s basketball history. With the Philippines a few seconds away from returning to the Asian Games finals after a long drought, Olsen Racela missed two potential game-sealing freethrows before the South Korea’s Lee Sang-min stole the 69-68 win with a buzzer-beating three. The Filipinos, though, get their chance at revenge in the 2022 Asian Games in four years.

Steph Currys career is destroyed. Warriors cockiest team and most hated team. Warriors dirtiest team. 3-1 lead. NBA Finals with Steph Curry vs LeBron James. We saw Game 4 next Game 5. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving NBA playoffs have been Warriors. Golden State vs Cleveland Finals Rematch. I think I prefer chris paul as a player over steph curry but I wont lie to you. This is the first play that comes to mind when I think of both of them. No disrespect to the greatest point guard since magic but wardell made him look hideous. I don’t even know how to feel anymore when it comes to the nba. The offseason, which is supposed to be the most boring part, is more fun than the finals, which is supposed to be the most entertaining part. Oh and their award show, aka the most shameless beg for money of the 21st century was outshined by this. Either the nba is dying or its more alive than its ever been, and I still don’t know if the warriors ruined all of this or caused all of this. what I do know though, is that the warriors are in trouble. You see Houston was already a great team, with cp3 they are a lethal team, and theyre not done yet. I fully expect them to make even more moves, eithering gathering complementary pieces to the major guard play, or fishing for that one superstar to create a big 3 of their own. I just wanna say im happy for you, but a lebron, harden, chris paul big 3 would the be the greatest of all time. Of all time. theres no way that happens tho, but they rockets don’t need it to happen. What chris paul adds to this team is just about exactly what they need especially to compete with the warriors. Not only is cp3 a secondary guy to james harden who can now get his own shot whenever wants, hes also a guy who can fit in the offense perfectly because of his finishing and 3 point ability. And flopping ability. You must never forget the flopping ability. Which brings me to a quick side note, the amount of freethrows Houston is gonna shoot next season will be disgusting. Either their games are gonna be must watch or must cancer. either way I see them as an easy 2 seed, only behind golden state, and now we must talk about the curry vs cp3 matchup. but before that, id like to say even though I believe im delivering some hard hitting analysis, I know what people will think. Oh I just hate the warriors, im a curry hater. Not true at all, what is true though is that I think theyre a bunch of jokers.
