Porque hemos vivido una temporada histórica, una carrera histórica y una última vuelta histórica. Empate tras 21 GG.PP. La temporada 2021 ha sido la más larga disputada hasta la fecha, casi 7.000 km de GG.PP.. Pese al bache de Mercedes en el primer tercio de la temporada, pese al “empujón indirecto” de Bottas a Verstappen, pese al segundo “empujón” de Lewis a Max en Silverstone, pese al choque en Monza y pese, o más bien gracias, a las decisiones arbitrarias de los árbitros, bonito juego de palabras, los dos rivales llegan al 22º G.P. empatados a puntos. La lección de Max… … y de Lewis. Para los que me seguís en los Podcast de los lunes, esto os va a sonar. ¡Qué gran lección la de Max! Pero este vídeo está dedicado a Hamilton y Hamilton también nos ha dado una lección haciendo una carrera impecable… Muchos me han dicho “¡Que suerte tuvo Max!” y ante esa afirmación solo puedo decir dos cosas: Otros GG.PP. tuvo mala suerte y, sobre todo, ¿de verdad alguien cree que se puede ganar un Mundial sin un poco de suerte Las “frías” estadísticas. Hamilton aspiraba a superar a Schumacher en sus estadísticas para convertirse en el mejor piloto de la historia. Mi primer argumento es que el mejor piloto de la historia, para mí, no es el que tiene mejores estadísticas, pero vamos primero con los números. Las cifras de Schumacher son abrumadoras: 7 Campeonatos del Mundo, 2 subcampeonatos, 3 terceros puestos en el Mundial y 91 victorias en GG.PP. Hamilton tiene los mismos títulos, 7 y los mismos subcampeonatos, pero después su palmarés es ligeramente inferior… salvo en una cosa: ha ganado 103 GG.PP. Habrá quien diga, “es que las temporadas ahora tienen más GG.PP”. Superioridad técnica. Que en muchas de las temporadas en las que Hamilton fue Campeón llevaba el mejor coche, es algo que no puede discutirse. Pero es que a lo largo de la historia las escuderías con más dinero tienen los mejores coches y contratan a los mejores pilotos… así es la vida. Michael fue a Ferrari en 1996 y necesitó 4 años para tener un coche ganador. Lewis fue a Mercedes en 2013 sabiendo el reglamento que llegaba en 2014. Desde 2014 hasta 2021 Mercedes ha sido muy superior y ha ganado todos los Mundiales de constructores y todos los Mundiales de pilotos… menos esté último… Los números no lo son todo. Seguro que estáis conmigo en que los números son muy importantes pero no lo son todo. En todas las listas de mejores pilotos de la historia, las haga quien las haga, aparecen pilotos como Senna, Alonso, Lauda, Fittipaldi o Clark, que están muy lejos de las estadísticas de Hamilton o Schumacher. ¿Qué hace grande a un piloto en la F1? Sus gestas únicas. Como por ejemplo Fangio, el único en ganar Mundiales con tres escuderías distintas. O Lauda, capaz de ganar con dos generaciones de coches… O Senna, que encontró la muerte tratando de demostrarnos y de demostrase que se podía ganar un Mundial de pilotos, aunque no se tuviese el mejor coche… ¿El carisma cuenta? He querido incluir este apartado sobre es carisma porque viendo la última carrera con una persona tibiamente aficionada a las carreras me dijo un comentario que me sorprendió: “Es que Hamilton cae mal y Verstappen tiene carisma”. No sé si es cierto o no, pero algo de verdad tiene, porque si pensamos en los que todos consideramos “grandes” vemos que todos o casi todos tienen carisma… pero hay una excepción que me llama la atención poderosamente: Sebastian Vettel. 4 veces Campeón del Mundo, aún en activo, con el record de ser el Campeón del Mundo más joven de la historia, pero ni siquiera en su país, Alemania, suele aparecer en las listas de los mejores. Conclusión: ¿Hamilton es el mejor? Fiel a mi costumbre os voy a dar dos respuestas: La del periodista y la del aficionado. El periodista diría que, a pesar de su derrota en 2021, Hamilton es el piloto de F1 con mejor palmares… porque sus 103 victorias sobre 288 GG.PP. pesan mucho. Pero el Máximo Sant aficionado ya sabes lo que te va a decir: Llevo media vida tratando de decidirme entre dos “dioses” del olimpo del automovilismo: Juan Manuel Fangio y Ayrton Senna… Honestamente, a día de hoy, no me atrevo a decidirme. Lo siento… sigo en ello. Coche del día Voy a elegir un coche que es un mito y que tiene que ver con la F1. Nos vamos a 1992 cuando se presentó un verdadero sueño: El McLaren F1, un deportivo triplaza con puesto de conducción central diseñado por Gordon Murray.
