Daniel Ricciardo might be back to his best in Formula 1, and starting to show he could get a Red Bull Racing return after all. Ricciardo was performing at a Red Bull level at the Mexican Grand Prix - literally. He qualified alongside Max Verstappen AND outpaced Sergio Perez, which is as much of a statement as it’s possible to make in an AlphaTauri. ESPECIALLY as Ricciardo followed that up with a strong seventh place in the grand prix, running ahead of several faster cars for a lot of it and passing every test of his racecraft, tyre management and pace, while Perez completely imploded and wiped himself out at the first corner. And this is about much more than a single result. It’s what made such a performance possible, the reasons to believe it’s sustainable, how much life it breathes into Ricciardo’s post-McLaren renaissance and the fact he looks like he really COULD be what Red Bull needs from Verstappen’s future team-mate. 00:00 Ricciardo shines 02:00 What changed? 03:51 What's now working 06:33 Why it's significant 08:31 Made for Netflix Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace #f1 #danielricciardo #sergioperez #redbull #f1news #mexicogp #mexicangp #ricciardo #formula1 #perez #checo #f12023 #f12024 #formulaone #alphatauri #redbullf1 #redbullracing
Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton’s best weekend of 2023 ended in the worst possible outcome. Their strongest challenge against Red Bull and Max Verstappen yet ended in a disqualification for a rare breach of a near-30-year-old rule - with Ferrari falling foul of this as well. Red Bull was checked, hadn’t made the same mistake - and therefore Verstappen’s victory stood. Conversely Hamilton was stripped of his second place at the United States GP just a few hours after chasing Verstappen closely in his upgraded Mercedes in easily his and the team’s most competitive showing of the season, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc got excluded from sixth place at the same time. Their cars breached the same technical regulation that refers to the thickness of the plank assembly under the car, with a minimum thickness of 9mm accepted after a competitive session due to wear. It put a dampener on a much improved weekend for Mercedes even if there were a few factors behind dominant world champion Verstappen almost suffering a rare defeat. 00:00 Exclusions 01:57 How Ferrari and Mercedes got caught out 03:26 Why only four cars were checked 05:28 How Red Bull avoided trouble 07:55 What about Mercedes' upgrade?
