One name that has recently popped up as a potential faller in the draft is Nico Mannion from Arizona University. Nico Mannion had a good freshman year as the Arizona’s guard, but not enough to make him a surefire lottery pick. If Mannion does fall to 29, the Los Angeles Lakers should draft him and let him develop as a new playmaker off the bench along with Alex Caruso, Quinn Cook, Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley. Ramsey’s game outside of his jumper leaves a little bit to be desired, but as a specialist, he makes a lot of sense as a top-20 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Tre Jones from Duke is one of the most experienced and reliable point guards in the draft this year. Tre Jones could fall anywhere from the late first round to the middle of the second round. The Los Angeles Lakers could use a smart point guard like Tre Jones to bring some playmaking ability off the bench. Another veteran point guard that is going to be available near the end of the first round for the Los Angeles Lakers is Cassius Winston of Michigan State. The Los Angeles Lakers’ top priority this summer is re-signing Anthony Davis, but one upgrade the Lakers could make to their roster is at the point guard position. Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley can both become free agents with player options, which makes Alex Caruso and Quinn Cook the only other point guards under contract. If the Lakers do choose to pursue a point guard in free agency, Goran Dragic could make a lot of sense. Dragic was moved to a bench role with the Miami Heat this season, but he thrived in that role. Kris Dunn’s biggest weakness has been his offense, but any time he comes off the bench, he brings an immediate jolt of energy on the defensive end of the floor. If Avery Braldey declines his player option, Kris Dunn could be a very good replacement. DJ Augustin, a veteran point guard for the Orlando Magic, will be hitting the open market this summer and could be a useful player in the Lakers’ rotation. Augustin has always been undersized, but that does not stop him from being an aggressive scorer. Augustin is a steady veteran that can run an offense, and now that the Orlando Magic are beginning to groom Markelle Fultz into a starting caliber point guard, they will have little incentive to re-sign DJ Augustin, which could put him right into the Los Angeles Lakers’ lap. The Cowboys coaching staff could undergo some major changes this year, including on the offensive side of the ball. McCarthy wants him to stay and the reports are he’s expected to do just that. Jim Tomsula was a horrible head coach for the 49ers, but his track record as a defensive line coach is damn good. He’s done great work with the 49ers and with the Redskins in the last decade-plus and now it appears he’s set to join the Cowboys. But does this mean a 3-4 scheme is coming? Kris Richard went from hot name to hot seat in just one year, but will the Cowboys bring him back in a lesser role? There’s conflicting reports on that, but a position coach role is possible.
