80's Michael Jordan vs 80's Reggie Miller & the Loaded Sharpshooting Indiana Pacers Hope you enjoy this fantastic match-up featuring the LOADED sharp shooting Indiana Pacers, including Reggie Miller, Chuck Person, Rik Smits, Vern Fleming, Wayman Tisdale, Scott Skiles, etc against the Chicago Bulls! The match-ups between the Pacers & the Bulls during Michael Jordan's career were physical & competitive! For individuals who are studying Michael Jordan's career, post-career, it may be impossible to accurately relay the message to you, as to how frustrating it was, in the 1980's, as a Chicago Bulls fan. In the late 80's we saw glimpses of brilliance from players like Horace Grant & Scottie Pippen, but no consistency. Scottie Pippen of the 80's was very inconsistent, and he folded like a cheap tent every year, to end the season, against Detroit. It was so obvious that Michael Jordan was better than Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Isiah Thomas... in the 1980's. One BIG problem..... Michael Jordan's supporting cast was immeasurably inferior compared to that of the other top stars. The other top stars were winning all the championships. You play to win the game, and Jordan wanted to win, but he couldn't win consistently against the top teams with his vastly inferior supporting cast. Will Perdue was Jerry Krause's highly touted 1st round draft pick (11th overall). During this game, you can even hear Bulls fans loudly cheer Will Perdue, because there were Bulls fans hoping that WILL PERDUE would live up to his #1 draft pick status. Spoiler alert, folks, Bulls fans quickly learned that Will Perdue was NOT great at pro basketball. This was further delaying the realistic possibility of Michael Jordan becoming a champion. Jerry Krause's saw great hope in Will Perdue. How could ANYONE see #11 overall talent in Will Perdue? Where does this film exist? Jerry Krause could have taken Dan Majerle, Rod Strickland, Vernon Maxwell, or Anthony Mason in the draft... but he takes Will Perdue instead. Michael Jordan eventually became frustrated. Jordan’s dislike for [Will] Perdue was palpable. He called him “Will Vanderbilt.” “He doesn’t deserve to be named after a Big Ten school,” Jordan would explain. These were the supporting casts Jordan was attempting to win championships with. These were the very difficult 1980's Bulls teams. There wasn't much great about these teams, consistently, past Michael Jordan. And it wasn't because Jordan "needed to trust his teammates"... it was because quite simply, his teammates performed poorly at basketball against the best teams, quite often, because they weren't very talented.... while Jordan was dominating everyone. Only Michael Jordan could have taken these teams as far, as he did. He also stayed as patient as possible with Pippen & Grant, never gave up on them, and allowed them to grow as future champions.
