They've also failed to make early incisions with the ball - something Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult are renowned for - allowing oppositions to settle far too quickly and dictate the tempo. That, in turn, has repeatedly left MI chasing the game rather than controlling it. It has also added further strain on Jasprit Bumrah, who has rarely had the benefit of sustained pressure from the other end and has consequently spent much of the season firefighting.
