49ers QB Trey Lance has been one of the talking points of the NFL's preseason. Today, I went over some of his pre and post-snap decision-making, including some high-level quarterbacking with some indecisiveness, sprinkled in there. Plus, why Lance's margin for error shrinks when all of his throws are 100 mph and what he adds to the Niners running game.
Today's breakdown discusses how Jimmy Garoppolo overcame mistakes, how Jauan Jennings and Brandon Aiyuk picked up the slack when the Rams double-teamed Deebo Samuel, and how Deebo looked like Deebo.
Today I wanted to talk about some of the unheralded players on the 49ers' defense such as Azeez Al-Shaair and D.J. Jones. I also pointed out how DeMeco Ryans was at his best and went into detail about my favorite blitz I've seen him run this year. Finally, I highlight a pass rush from both Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead
You could tell the 49ers didn't prepare Trey Lance for this game. You could tell that the only way Lance would ever improve is by playing and getting live reps. If Lance is going to develop, he has to play. Lance's head was spinning in this one. I talked about the plays Lance missed and how he'll improve as the game starts to slow down for him. Lance played backyard football against the Seahawks to start. As the game went along, he showed why the 49ers took him third overall. This is about the process. How much better will Lance be in four, eight, 12 games from now? That's how the Niners must look at Lance's situation.
Mike McGlinchey gets a lot of hate online because his sacks come at the worst possible times. Against the Chargers, he had a few really impressive blocks.
