BREAKING: The NEW Golden State Warriors Can Still GO FAR This Season! (Steph Curry,James Wiseman)

The Golden State Warriors certainly have not had the start to their 2020-21 regular season they expected. And it’s not only due to the fact that they lost their first two games by 26 and 39 points, respectively, or because they struggled due to Draymond Green’s absence in those two games. For a team that had the most lethal offense in the league for the better part of the last decade, it’s really weird to see the Warriors struggling so much on offense. And these aren’t the same 15 – 50 Warriors from last season who played without Steph Curry and Klay Thompson for most of the season, this is a revamped roster that has Curry back and added the best big man in the 2020 class, James Wiseman. Today we will take a look at just how far the new-look Golden State Warriors can go this season. The biggest blow to the Golden State Warriors’ aspirations to return to championship contention this year came before the 2020-21 regular season even began. About one month before their season opener against the Brooklyn Nets, the Warriors received news that Klay Thompson had torn his right Achilles tendon during a workout with fellow NBA players and would be out for an entire calendar year. Thompson had just recovered from a torn ACL suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals and was eagerly awaiting to return back to NBA action. After two immense blowouts, the 2020-21 Warriors became just the fourth team in NBA history to lose both of the first two games of their season by at least 25 points. Ironically, the last time this happened was also to the Golden State Warriors franchise in 1989, over 30 years ago. In this year’s two opening games, the Warriors went 20-for-78 from three-point land, an unusual 25.6% for one of the most efficient long-range clubs in the league. Curry went just 4-for-20 in those games, but another particular player’s historically bad shooting stood out even more: Kelly Oubre Jr’s, the team’s biggest offseason acquisition. Throughout Golden State’s first two games, Oubre became the first player in NBA history to start a season missing 11 straight three-pointers. He went 0-for-6 in the opener against Brooklyn, then 0-for-5 against the Milwaukee Bucks on Christmas Day. Nobody expected things going this bad. Of course, when your first two games of the season are facing the two best teams in the Eastern Conference, you know it’s going to be a battle. And after losing to the Bucks on Christmas, Steve Kerr said he was confident the team could turn it around. This Warriors team, even though it’s still led by Curry, Draymond Green, and the injured Klay Thompson, looks really different from the roster that made the 2019 NBA Finals. Other than their three stars, Damion Lee – and end of bench player – is the only other member of the 2019 Warriors that’s still with the team. Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre are now in place of Thompson and Kevin Durant. That means two of the best sharpshooters in the league were replaced with two primary slashers. Wiggins and Oubre can shoot threes as well, but they’re yet to prove they can make them at a league average clip. The rest of the team is filled with young, raw guys the Warriors tried to develop into rotation NBA players during their throwaway 2019-20 regular season. “This year’s different,” he said. “And not to feel any pressure around Warriors teams in the past. We obviously had that championship DNA, and we understand there’s expectations around our organization and that’s what we want. But this year’s different. It’s a new group of guys.” Even though Curry was alluding to him expecting the team to play better, it’s still entirely possible the team looks entirely different if they decide to make mid-season trades. Regardless of how the roster looks by the trade deadline, we can definitely expect their next month to be better than how they started; it’s virtually impossible to do worse than they have up to this point. Open shots will start falling, guys will get used to playing with Steph, Draymond and James Wiseman will anchor a better defense, and the Warriors will be fine. Wiseman has in fact been one of the lone bright spots in the Dubs’ first week. Where do you think the Warriors will end up in the Western Conference standings? Is the Warriors dynasty dead?
